Anyone correct me if I got the math wrong, and I will try to add more people to the calculation later.

Makes me wonder if the final dlc of bird distribution will be around that. Or around a third of the final animals being birds (7/20).

Which is interesting as the current meta wishlist only has around 4 birds in the top. I wonder if Frontier will follow the meta wishlist or follow more of the current community needs.

Here's my 20 animals list, currently :

For Latin America (9) :
  • West Indian Manatee
  • Patagonian Mara
  • Geoffroy's Spider Monkey
  • Golden Lion Tamarin
  • South American Coati
  • Greater Rhea
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Roseate Spoonbill
This would be enough to complete LatAm IMO, with the needed monkey, birds and small mammals, as well as a flagship animal in the manatee. We have enough cats and bears in the game, I don't think they're absolutely needed.

For Africa (4) :
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Black and White Colobus Monkey
  • Marabou Stork
  • Grey-Crowned Crane
Again, to me the weaknesses in the African roster are the birds and the monkeys, so here we are.

For East and South Asia (4) :
  • Blackbuck
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque
  • Père David's Deer
  • Golden Pheasant
One bird and one monkey again, but we also need more Asian ungulates, with our first Asian deer and our first Indian antelope.

More Birds (3) :
  • Great White Pelican
  • Mallard Duck
  • Black Stork
These three all represent multiple continents, and allow us to get more essential birds. I chose the black stork over the white stork because otherwise we would have three white aquatic birds, so I wanted some variations here.

Honorable mentions (5) :
  • Sea Otter
  • Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
  • European Mink
  • Pallas's Cat
  • Luzon Giant Cloud Rat
Those five I left out. They all fill interesting niches (a cold climate otter/smaller cat, a small mustelidae, a tree kangaroo and a giant rat) and they all are great zoo animals in their own right, but none of them feel essential enough to me that I would chose to add them over the 20 I selected. But I would still be quite happy if you replaced basically any of the other animals in my list with those five (or other representative of their respective niche - like the eurasian otter, yellow throated marten, matschie's tree kangaroo, malagasy giant rat or european wild cat).

AH okay, just 20 animals. I'm tempted to just run down my own top 20 wants, but I'm going to throw a few crumbs to the masses as well.

1. Shoebill - I rarely bring them up anymore because I doubt we'll get many more birds, and the Secretary Bird is more likely.
2. Spectacled Bear
3. Coatimundi (any species)
4. Secretary Bird
5. Black Howler Monkey (red would be okay instead though)
6. Squirrel Monkey (any species) - I know not a favorite, but I personally like them.
7. Patagonian Mara
8. Brazilian Porcupine
9. Scarlet Ibis
10. Wild Turkey
11. Tree Kangaroo (preference to Goodfellow's but not set on it)
12. Pelican (any species, prefer Australian Pelican though)
13. European Otter - I like otters a lot what can I say
14. Bat Eared Fox
15. Muskox - for the masses
16. Hamadryas Baboon - for the masses
17. Mandarin Duck - for the masses (another duck would also be alright)
18. Masai Giraffe
19. King Cobra (E)
20. Chameleon species (preference to Jackson's or Panther chameleons) (E)

There's a few other animals I would have put in my own more selfish wants but I get the reasons for including the Baboon, Muskox and Mandarin Duck.

They lie and give us nothing.

Being realistic of what they would actually give us though for a scenery pack, I would say LA but really boring animals, like:
  • Another very small monkey like Squirrel Monkey or a second Capuchin (not counting tamarins)
  • Greater Rhea
  • Ocelot
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Some random snake no ones heard of
While I want the bear, its become less of a priority to me because we just got a bear and there are more pressing concerns right now.

South American Coati, Spectacled Bear, Black Howler Monkey, Black Spider Monkey and 5 Tamarin species (Walkthrough exhibit, Golden Lion, Cotton Top, Emperor, Golden Handed and White Lipped)

I'll be willing to give up every other region in the world or other animals if it means that we go back to South America

I'd probably try to go with species from all around the world with 15 habitat species, 2 or 3 exhibits and 3 or 2 flying birds in WTE so modders can do somethin about it. And I'd put a little more effort on SA because we all agree that it is the region that need it the most.

South America:
1) South American Coati
2) Black Howler Monkey
3) A Marmoset or a Tamarin
4) Spectacled Bear
5) Blue and Yellow Macaw (WTE)

North America:
1) American Black Bear Edit: as we already had a bear in the last pack and I prefer Spectacled bear, I'd replace ABB without something else like the NA Porcupine
2) Sea Otter

Europe:
1) Eurasian Eagle-Owl (WTE)

Africa:
1) Nile Crocodile
2) Hamadryas Baboon
3) Secretary Bird
4) Panther Chameleon (exhibit)

Asia:
1) Palla's Cat
2) Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey
3) Blackbuck
4) King Cobra (exhibit)

Oceania:
1) Short-beaked Echidna
2) Lorikeets (WTE)

Special mention to the ones I left on the side of the road in the name of diversity (and because I once again rely on great modders job) :
Serval, Mongoose, Gerenuk, Grey Crowned Crane, Shoebill, Markhor, Japanese Raccoon Dog, Lion-Tailed Macaque, Mandarin Duck, Pelicans, Rocky Mountain Elk, Arctic Hare, Patagonian Mara, Ocelot, Tamandua, American Flamingo, Roseate Spoonbill.

Optimal worst? As in the best of the worst possible scenarios?

A LATAM scenery pack (Brazil, Caribbean, México themed a mix of styles but somewhat cohesive like the Europe pack did) with a satisfying roster (which with just four animals is close to impossible for the region):

1. South american or white nosed coati
2. Patagonian mara
3. Mexican spider monkey
4. Scarlet ibis
5. WTE: macaws (even if they tienes out our only flying birds in the whole game. Other options are marmosets or hummingbirds)

And then cuz i need it and i cheat idc: Anniversary : greater rhea 😬
