Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Id argue there is no antarctic pack because there are only penguins and seals over there and there isnt any real scenery either.
Which makes a 2 penguins + 2 seals scenery pack really unlikely and a 4 penguins + 3 seals animal pack is just silly
I would think it limited enough to consider Sub-Antarctic islands generally if they were compelled to do the theme (I think the majority of the following species aren't in any zoos, and none are ones people ask for specifically).

There's a few other Sub-Antarctic bird types, including Campbell Teal, South Georgia Pintail, Falkland Steamer Duck, Inaccessible Island Rail & Macquarie/Crozet/South Georgia Cormorants. Quite a few birds range into the Sub-Antarctic, mostly South American (Falklands being the easiest to get to).

From mainland Antarctica there's only 2 flowering plant species, so a scenery pack would have to expand it to sub-antarctic flora like cushion plants.

There's a few scenery bits and bobs, ranging from historical to current, with a whole bunch of countries with bases. It'd be a struggle, but it might border plausible for a smaller scenery set.

Is not really a theme that i'm interested in. A more general Polar pack that includes a couple of Antarctic animals would be the best options imo.

A polar expedition pack you say?????

  1. Walrus
  2. Atlantic Puffin/ a northern sea duck like the long tail or king eider
  3. Gentoo penguin/ Rockhopper Penguin
  4. Not common in captivity but screw it it’s cool, the leopard seal (the Toranga zoo lost its only captive member in 2014) TBH I’m fine with any animal in this spot, we could get the musk ox or the arctic hare/ snowshoe hare here.
  5. Exhibit: I think this would be a cool opportunity to get sea animals in the game, one idea I had would be we get a couple species of jellyfish, and they get a special new exhibit box.
Props: kelp, sea weed, rocks with barnacles and oysters on them, sea life props such as crabs, urchins, and mollusks. A special new effect in the form of 2D swimming fish. Expedition themed equipment, including both a modern scientific theme with proper equipment and some old ship pieces as well. Some more educational props are also available, including ones teaching about the food web (which can be set to multiple ecosystems and can be color changed) and maybe some skulls or other museum like pieces.

Not much for new pieces, but very prop heavy!

I should add: the story/ challenge going along with the pack would be an indoor aquarium having issues with its cooling systems! With a focus on installing green energy to supplement the A/C units inside the building!

The statue will be the Walrus!

If frontier adds new AC pieces I'm going to throw my computer out the window
Lmao! Yeah that would be frustrating. If it makes you feel better I was more thinking about you having to replace the cooling devices in the habitats, installing new water coolers, and replacing the generators with either the wind turbines or solar panels.

What if it's an American scenery pack and all the scenery is offensively stereotypical of the USA? Like how the rest of the world see us lol
  • Bald eagle reward statue
  • The only flexicolor options are RED, WHITE, and BLUE
  • Placable deep fried corn dogs, battered in butter and lard, with a extra large side of fries and bacon-flavored milkshake
  • All staff now wear cowboy hats
  • Transport rides have bumper stickers that say dumb, empty platitudes like "I stand at the fennec, and kneel at the komodo"
  • The campaign features Dominic Meyers - now blonde and in a disgusting orange tan - saying the zoo needs to be "HUGE" and "very bigly", telling you to "believe me" and if you fail, Sad!

I remember finding out the San Diego zoo sells donut burgers so corn dogs deep fried in lard doesn't sound too bad 😂

I made a concept for a Polar animal pack a while ago including:
1. Walrus
2. Southern Rockhopper Penguin
3. Muskox
4. Sea Otter
5. Red-Breasted Goose
6. Western Capercaillie
7. Mountain Hare

Not sure for the exhibit really. Would you buy this pack?
You got me with the goose and capercaillie.
When it comes to exhibit animals for a polar pack the options basicly come down to either wood frog or european adder

I'd love the adder, probably the most iconic reptile of Europe and would be nice to have a more temperate snake.

I was thinking maybe Elephant Seal, gone from Europe, but were kept in the US and Japan 10 years ago (as injured juveniles in California, released when healthy). Argentina looks like the only place to ever house the southern species.

A fur seal of some sort might be alright as clones go (Sub-Antarctic Fur seal seems maybe the most distinct from the California Sea lion, it has a decent presence in Australian captivity.)

Its...fine
Not very exciting besides the last 3, which are all pretty great.
My main issue with a polar pack is that none of the main 4 animals excite me.

The penguin and otter are the easiest to explain, as i just dont need a 4. Penguin and a 3. Otter.
The biggest draw of another antarctic penguin would be to combine them with the king penguin which isnt the worst and having a second antarctic species would be cool but if the main draw of an animal is to be kept with another animal we allready have it just doesnt really click with me as anything more then a fine addition.
The otters biggest draw would be a cold climate, saltwater and more solidary otter, but if its about checking of more biomes for otters well...

Yeah i think this picture speaks for itself. And this isnt suppoused to be all hail the eurasian otter, id say both are just fine additions mostly thanks to the fact that the seaotter looks more distinct and has a more unique behavior in the back swimming, but even then its hard to feel excited about either of them.

Walrus and Muskox are defenetly distinct and cool looking animals, but are they really needed?
The other pinipeds and the reindeer can easily cover what they do without much of a loss otherwise.

Let me put it like this.
A polar pack would more or less be like the arid pack 2.0, taking a well enough coverd rather niche area and bumbing it up hard from green to blue by sheer quantity alone, offering every option we could desire and giving us much more chances to mix and match, which is in no means bad, its actually really good and important for replay value to have enough options to build decently sized themed areas that are still clearly varied from each other, but at the same time how many of us have come to the point that they build for a very niche area a second time?
I have 460 hours in Planet zoo and am just on my third zoo and only cause i deleted my second by accident.
The only "themes" i revisited a second time so far is generic africa and asian tropical house, with only the meerkat being part of both areas cause yk meerkat goated.
Everything else has been a one of so far and im not even close to having used every animal in the game and while i actually have build an arctic area in my first zoo which is literally arctic pack + timberwolf, brown bear and grey seal i dont feel like building another one any time soon because theres still so much else to do.
For example i have never build an desert themed area eventhough i really wanna do a desert house at some point or an northamerican or european area before, so building a second arctic area will be a long time away.
And if you havent build an arctic area before its not like the area is lacking in animals.
Reindeer, Dall Sheep, Polarbear, Arctic Fox, Grey Seel and Californian Sealion (when real zoos put them into most of their arctic areas we can aswell) are a great base and if you choose to supplement them with some taiga or mountain animals like the siberian tiger, amur leopard, snow leopard, red crowned crane, takin, moose, timberwolf, brown bears, asiatic black bear, beaver and so on you got a great mix of animals to pick and choose from.
A great example of that would be callums recreation of calgary zoos penguin plunge and canada wilds. Are all of these animals strictly tundra animals? No but he still gets the vibe across which atleast for me is the more important part.

Also polar pack without snowy owl? Wasted
Ik we dont have flying birds but man if this isnt the one and true allstar of that region that would easily sell that pack by itself

Honestly I always picture the guests as American:

  1. Demands food every couple hundred feet
  2. Doesn’t like walking too far
  3. Instantly irritable if they can’t see an animal
  4. Constantly has to be entertained
  5. Gets annoyed seeing service buildings
  6. Will just throw things on the ground, it’s someone else’s job to clean!
  7. If not explicitly warned or if security isn’t present will just about do everything they shouldn’t do
Land of the free and home of the brave!
