Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Even though I don’t think it will happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if frontier did a petting zoo pack next. I agree with the point above that maybe they have realized that PZ has been their constant money maker and working on other stuff could be risky depending on what it is. Petting zoos are a popular theme people want and wouldn’t be a huge load of work, the free update could probably cover everything we need for it, or at least the bare minimum to simulate petting zoos.

Honestly I think the best way to do a petting zoo pack is to diversify it into some sort of “education pack” featuring child friendly animals. For a scenery pack it can feature a lot of educational props, and the free update can add a lot into animal and guest interaction.

Education Pack
  1. Nigerian dwarf goat: probably the quintessential petting zoo animal, and if I’m being honest the only one I think we “need in game”.
  2. Squirrel Monkey: very active species that children like to watch, I know the Bronx zoo keeps them in the children’s area.
  3. Mallard/ Mandarin duck: could be either or, I just think the swan rig can be reused. And with the hype that the swan got I think frontier is aware we want more birds.
  4. African spurred tortoise: another habitat reptile, and probably the most “friendly” to have in an education/ child focused pack. Personally any other habitat tortoise would work for me too.
  5. For the exhibit animal, and probably the best way to get peoples attention to come back to planet zoo. Birds for the walkthrough exhibit. Could be a hummingbird, lorikeet, or budgerigar. I think this would be the best way to gets people’s attention to the pack. Whatever it is I think Frontier should do what they do for the arid pack: we get multiple species for the WTE
  6. For the props I would do things regarding education and animal care. Hay bales, skeletons, and basically a mixture of backstage and educational.

Honestly, I don't want any domesticated animals to the Planet Zoo, excluding the Alpaca, Guinea pig, Chinchilla, Helmeted guineafowl and Budgerigar.

I can just imagine the amount of salt that will come from here if we get a petting zoo pack instead of the anticipated Latin America pack. A scenery pack full of fluffy friends over some boring monkeys :D

Chinchilla? I'm not a fan of small mammals because I find it hard to build habitat for them but I would be a 100% in for chinchillas. I'd love them in a walk-through exhibit but a few people told me months ago that a looping animation wouldn't fit them (and I still don't understand why).
That being said, I don't think chinchillas are common in zoos as they are more known for being house pets so it may not be a good idea for PZ.

I think the goat and mallard duck are the most likely for a pack theme like this. Spurred tortoise too I think is a great cloney option. I also wouldn’t rule put a rabbit, ESPECIALLY if this pack comes out in the Spring alongside Easter. Lagomorphs are one of the only missing animal groups in game, so a Spring ‘Children’s Zoo’ pack would be the best time to release a rabbit!

The true best option
The true best option would be something like Central America Scenery in Spring, Islands Animal Pack in Summer, Petting Zoo Pack in Fall and Mountains Animal Pack in Winter
If we add the Rhea as the anniversary animal as well, we got atleast 7 animals for SA next year that actually matter, something like Ocelot, Spider Monkey, Roseate Spoonbill, Spectacle Bear, Rhea, the right sloth and whatever is the 4. Animal in an Central America pack + whatever the carribean might get in a islands animal pack like the rhinoceros iguana or in the worst timeline the cuban crocodile or in the best timeline a brown pelican.
This would mean alot of wonderfull additons for South America, aswell as a good bunch of domestic (Kunekune Pig and Shetland Pony in Islands, Bunny/Guinea Pig, Dwarf Goat, Duck, Donkey/Cattle + hopium says Budgeys in the petting zoo pack + some oceania in islands and the discussed to death awesome mountain pack line up that only got the takin and wolverine taken out.

Sounds very save and solid to me

I will say this next dlc is even more uncertain for me than any of the others. There are a lot of factors at play:

  1. Lay offs
  2. Poor financial year
  3. Planet Zoo is still selling “well”
  4. Planet Zoo is the most played Frontier game with an average of 6,000 players a day.
  5. Still no console release (a potential huge source of money)
  6. Frontier said they would continue to support their real time management games
  7. The 5th year is coming up (I find this slightly important, 5 years of development is a nice number to end on)
  8. The next game is coming up
So I don’t know what to think, maybe the next couple DLCs will mix things up to try to get interest back into planet zoo. Or maybe they won’t change anything. Maybe the next dlc will be the last, maybe it will end around the 5th anniversary. Maybe they will add birds, monkeys, or aquatic animals. Maybe they will stick with the safe ungulates, and Carnivora. I genuinely don’t know what will happen. Personally I think the next dlc will be Latin America/ Amazon/ South America.
Yeah, I think it's entirely possible we might get anywhere from zero to 4 more packs. Hopefully not zero, but I think I'm going to have anxiety until and if there's activity in the steam database thing that indicates additional content coming. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

I agree with everything except the islands animal pack. After the Oceania pack I really don't see the need for more hot island animals. I would just rather get Tree roo and echidna in some other pack and I'm good. Best scenario imo would be:
  • Spring 2024; Coastal Pack; Swim coast to coast to meet the goofy Walrus, majestic Brown Pelican, powerful Red Lobster, the adorable Sea Otter as well as the tiny Atlantic Puffin. Comes with coastal beach scenery and coastal foliage and wet rock set.
  • Summer 2024; Latin America Animal Pack; Head to the tropics with birds like the Caribbean Flamingo or Greater Rhea, hang out with the chill Geoffroy's Spider Monkey or energetic South American Coati, hunt with the elusive Ocelot, slither with the Emerald Tree Boa, the high climbing Guanaco or the sun bathing Patagonian Mara.
  • Fall 2024; Alpine Pack; Head up high with the brightly coloured Gelada, grumpy and adorable Pallas Cat, powerful Spectacled Bear, elusive Mangshan Viper as well as the iconic Markhor. Comes with Himalayan scenery and foliage.
  • Winter 2024; Education Animal Pack; Pass on the legacy of nature to the little ones with 8 new petting zoo types of animals! Introducing the adorable Highland Cattle, hilarious African Dwarf Goat, the all mighty powerful European Hare, nuzzle up with the Peruvian Guinea pig, the majestic Shetland Pony, swim freely with the Mallard, the extremely fascinating Panther Chameleon, but watch out for the Canadian Goose, a creature that while interesting, may still be a walking and running hazard to the little ones. This pack also comes with a playground building set as well as a few more handy pieces to build with like woodchips or ash fault placeable pieces! (This is the last pack supposedly)

U see that where i disagree on the idear of an islands pack.
Islands dont have to be hot yk?
My personal choices would be Kunekune Pig (Temperate), Shetland Pony (Icy Tundra Rock), Rhinoceros Iguana (Arid Dry Savannah/Half Desert), Tree Kangaroo (Tropical), Radiated Tortoise (Dry Savannah), Sulawesi Crested Macaque (Tropical) and Nene Goose (Tropical Grasslands), with half of them as you see not being tropical animals.
And thats just what i would choose, you can easily make the case for the Walrus or other cold climate coastal species to also join in in such a pack

It just doesn't seem like a pack frontier would do since we already have the theme of islands in the Oceania Pack.

Feels like wanting the manatee now is equivalent to wanting an orca 😂
and I dont get why. The reason everyone hated orcas before was because of how hard it is to ethically keep them in captivity now it seems people just hate the concept of fully aquatics even though the manatee is perfectly fine in captivity and is commonly kept in zoos.
The only way I can see a manatee now in PZ is with a special exibith like walkthrough or a new kind of exibith fences (marine reptiles in JWE2). How its programmed and how the staff ingame carry and release the animals in the exibith. The only "marine" creature I can see are sea turtles due these usually go to land. And staff releasing the turtle in the exibith and the turtles going to water.
I seriously dont get why people are saying it will be hard to add aquatics deep diving, underwater movement, enrichment and feeding all already exist the only barrier that exists is the current habitat gate doesnt attach directly into the water which a simple fix to this would be add a new gate that attaches to the waters surface and comes with a platform for keepers thats it

thats enough to make a pack
