Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Possible pack?

Why so many clones?
Clone/reskin type animals are necessary to a degree if we were to get unique things like the Macaw. But with the Honey Badger coming from the Wolverine, the Goose from the Swan and the Tamandua coming from the Anteater - at least, most likely IMO - that's only one really brand new rig I can tell. Does seem like a good bit of simpler animals.

My bigger question though is why there are 10 animals in the pack idea. For a final/wrap up type of pack, sure...but they're suggesting something besides the 7+1 or 4+1+scenery release model otherwise which almost certainly won't happen otherwise.

I know clones are necessary but Indochinese Tiger and Eurasian Brown Bear together are just bizarre, these are extremely lazy clones and I don't think Frontier would go this low tbh.

Been thinking more about this. I think the next pack won't be South American themed. I think everyones right, it needs to be an animal pack. I was for a scenery pack but I was also assuming we would get a couple SA creatures in this current pack, yet we didn't. I also don't think they will stop the trend of the regional packs. Theres no themes left that they haven't done, we've covered all the biomes (except for alpine but I guess Eurasia sorta covers it) so I think they would return to a continent that might not have the top animals, but a requested scenery theme, that being North America.
BOREAL PACK.jpg

While North America might not need new species, I think it deserves a small upgrade since the rest of the continents has had an uplift. With the Snowshoe Hare being the headliner and the unique rig of this pack, a bunny should be able to draw a lot of attention from a general audience. Combining the winter feel while also travelling into spring with the woodlands. The Musk Ox and Bear were both requested, infact I think they're both in the top 30 of the meta wishlist. The bear could be the reciever of a few new animations like more unique climbing or fishing behavior? The Elk is the direct clone of the pack. I suppose other animals like a duck could fit in but adding in marshlands would take away from the cold woodlands feel of the pack. A marten could also get in here too as the second new rig, but we don't know if the 2 rigs per pack will be dropped to 1 because of frontiers status so I played it safe and kept the bear, elk and musk ox.

Scenery set has been heavily requested, Native American scenery set, mostly new wooden and stone sets with lots of new shrubs, trees and grasses that belong to North Americas northern boreal forests.

Only problem with this pack is that it doesn't include Walrus nor a pelican, but I'm confident they'll find their way into a later pack. Its a spring pack, it really doesn't feel like Walrus time.

Or it could mean an animal dlc that gives animals for both Oceania and SA as they both haven’t gotten a dedicated animal dlc!
But yes in all seriousness SA and NA need immediate attention for the first half of 2024, preferably SA first as it got the least attention in 2023.
I somehow get a feeling that frontier is going to switch the formula this year and give us an animal dc first. With that in mind I could see a Latin/Central American dlc.
Na got least attention not SA. SA got 2 animals this year the sloth and peccary NA only got the peccary. I still very much agree that south america is top priority when it comes to animals
Why so many clones?
more importantly why is it called riparian no one will understand that

I don’t know why there’s so much confusion on the species that came from which continents. The actual list is:

North America: 3 (Peccary, Wolverine, Swan)
South America: 2 (Peccary, Sloth)
Europe: 6 (Porcupine, Swan, Wolverine, Wisent, Boar, Tortoise)
Asia: 12 (Gibbon, Monitor, Dromedary, Sand Cat, Horned Viper, Flying Fox, Wolverine, Saiga, Swan, Boar, Sloth Bear, Takin)
Africa: 10 (Fossa, RRH, Dromedary, Porcupine, Addax, Dama, Rhino, Horned Viper, Donkey, Sand Cat)
Oceania: 5 (Devil, Penguin, Flying Fox, Quokka, Kiwi)

What if we won't got any scenery pack anymore and just one or two animal packs?
That way Frontier could give us as many highly ranked meta wishlist animals as possible. In addition, I don't think there are much themes for scenery left, maybe Carribean or a generic essential zoo props set but I don't see much more than these.

Swan isn't native to NA but is an introduction and the sloth does also range into NA as well.

I'd be fine with that honestly!
More chance to see animals I like...

Wild Boars are in North Africa too.

That would be honestly idilical

It could be cool to expand on the color variations...
I mean broaden the allowed brightness* variance for the following animals:
  • Red Fox (orange could range from pale sandy all the way to a brownish color)
  • Both Tigers (since IRL psuedomelanistic occurs on white so it could go from almost white all the way to a darker almost reddish orange to even further represent Sumatran)
  • Timber Wolf (from white to dark grey)
  • Wild Dog (of course in addition to patterns)
  • Reindeer
  • Wild Boar?
  • Wolverine
  • Dingo (I mean I think he looks great in the white form but could be even darker orange)
  • Moose
  • Cougar
*IDK how it actually works in programming aside from the game randomly picks a value to represent an animals' color.
Edit to add: IF we got Melanistic Maned Wolf and more color variance in the Wolf, Red Fox and the wild dog I'd be very content with canids... SO I don't need a new canid species... Just new content.
Another thing I'd love to see, is more pattern variation like in the Tasmanian Devil... Wolverine and sloth bear as well! :)
