Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Overall, both are adorable.

Understandable.

But personally, as an Argentinian, the mara (and reah) are to me as important as the ABB is for NA players. So while i like agoutis and think they would be useful i need the mara first.
I would honestly say these are more important to a lot of us American players than the ABB. I could live without the ABB to be honest.

Well for me the mara or the rhea are not backyard animals like the ABB is for many of american players but they are super common in zoos, farms, etc. They are also iconic fauna of my country and specially the region i live in but also Patagonia so they will add much more than the agouti to me that is a tropical rodent, since we have several tropical SA species but Patagonia is still pretty much in red haha ( and the pampas could get some more love even if we already got capybara, armadillo and maned wolf, rhea is also a key element of the grasslands)

And about how you feel about the ABB i feel the same about the spec bear. I don't really need it. I can love with a final roster that doesn't include it, but not without the rhea and mara 🥲

Things are getting more intense as we try to push harder/louder for our own personal wants. I can tell there's going to be a lot of animals with a lot of support that don't make it in. The good news? Most of those only have a relatively high amount of support, in that a year ago they were only mild wants. Frontier can't possibly add in everything that's near the top of a list; by the time they do add in the highly requested animals, other animals become highly requested. Secretary Bird, Tree Kangaroo, Coatimundi, Hamadrayas Baboon, Walrus, and Muskox being the holdouts that have always had a decent amount of votes, along with the acknowledged non-species specific wants of New World Primates.

Only if its an animal pack.

  • Markhor
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Gelada
  • Pallas Cat
  • Yak
  • Guanaco
  • Rock Hyrax

Most logical I think but Hyrax could easily be replaced by the Alpine Marmot for more geographical representation
This honestly makes a ton of sense, even had pretty much the same idea separately after the takin and wolverine were already confirmed. I'd expect the marmot over the hyrax, but I would very much prefer the hyrax personally.

Yeah, I'd say these are probably the biggest species to try and get in the roster however possible. Honestly, it'd feel really weird to have come this far without some of them making the roster when others did.

We're definitely getting the point, assuming anyways, that not all of these species are going to make it in, crazy as it sounds for such popular species. Coatimundi I'm not worried about, since I think it's very likely we'll get some kind of pack representing South/Central/Latin America. And I honestly refuse to believe - at this point anyways - that Frontier will leave us with only one New World Primate. The rest..I'm not so sure, even the Secretary Bird at this point, but I'm not giving up hope for animals from the Latin part of the world just yet.

The thing is, some of those animals will require a good amount of unique rigging and animation. Muskox can probably be done off the Bison or Takin rigs, the Walrus off the Sea Lion rig, and the Baboon off the Mandrill rig so that works in their favor.

The two I'm most concerned we won't get is the Secretary Bird and Tree Kangaroo.

Frontier's given us several birds this year, but not to the point that I would consider a bird would be a standard inclusion in a pack. It should be, but it's not, at least IMO. Even for one as popular as the Secretary Bird.

I struggle to put a Tree Kangaroo in any kind of pack but a finale/wrap up pack at this point, especially after the Oceania pack. If we get a finale pack they could easily be the marketed animal, but otherwise....I'm thinking we very well may not see them in the game.

How about a brazilian tapir for a south america animal pack? Since we have 3 rhinoceros and 3 equids, why not the third tapir to close odd toes ungulates?

Animals I wanna see in 2024
  • American Black Bear (Anniversary animal)
  • Brazilian Tapir
  • Secretary Bird
  • Gelada
  • Baboon
  • African Spurred Turtle
  • Yak
  • Mara
  • Chinese Alligator
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Echidna
  • Sea Otter
  • Walrus
  • Pelicans
  • Honey Badger
  • False Gharial
  • Coati
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Sea Turtle
  • Hummings Birds

I personally hope for something more like the Conservation pack, that has a theme rather then a region/biome!

Obviously petting zoo comes to mind, but a museum/science type theme would just be beyond in terms of new pieces. Maybe a city theme could have been cool but I think the major animals are already there. Kind of different would be a color/rainbow pack with many colorful animals (possibly WE macaws??) and generally colorful animals and flowers and playground objects as new scenery!
city theme still has plenty of options both american and australian possums come to mind as well as the american black bear and rabbit. But one of the few pack themes that would actively excite me is a museum pack animals with interesting conservation stories and scenery thats all about educational displays.
If the spring DLC has an agouti, which one would you like to get?
I want the orinoco agouti just to make people angry but otherwise any of the non black ones since the classic colour when I think of an agouti is reddy brown.

I want both remaining tapirs especially the mountain it looks so goofy and at least the javan rhino ideally both it and the sumatran

Also feel like the Gelada could be left out in favor of the Olive Baboon in a Safari pack.
That would make
  • Markhor
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Pallas Cat
  • Yak
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Guanaco
  • Rocky Mountain Goat

Out of curiosity I went through the combination of continents and biomes and I have found some interesting points

for the animals
  • the only combo that doesnt exisit is oceania and taiga
  • there are only 6 under 4 animals (tropical europe 2 / south american desert 3 / africa taiga 2 / africa tundra 1 / oceania tundra 1 / south american tundra 1)
  • 4 areas with only 4 animals (oceania desert / europe desert / south america taiga / oceania aquatic)
  • there are only 2 others left under 10 both at 6 (africa temperate/ aquatic europe) and 2 at 10 (africa and south america aquatic)

This has highlighted some gaps in the roster
  • I cannot fathom was the thought process than enabled europe to have the same amount of desert animals as oceania a continent whos landmass is more than half desert.
  • south america in general namely the desert and taiga regions. (before people question yes I know the definition of taiga the game does not follow this definition and instead uses it to refer to vaguely alpine cold forest hence the llama being included in it and south america having exclusive taiga plants I will also bring up oceanic taiga here as something that is completely unnecessary)
  • africa, oceania and south america basically only have penguins as their tickets to tundra what annoys me is that you can build a tundra south american zoo and it has an exclusive plant. This implies they take into consideration alpine tundra as well so africa and south america could see more animals but why the llama doesnt have this tag is beyond me
  • africa temperate animals are needed especially for more alpine animals though temperate areas are not common in africa only really being in the ethiopian highlands or northern africa coast (depending on temperate definitions). Even so more animals that are found across the mediterranean are needed
  • aqautic south america, oceania, africa and europe can use more animals but aquatic will always be a more supportive biome tag things like waterbirds and crocodilians would make great additions would make great addtions to any of these continents.
  • tropical europe is useless since any tropical areas in europe are extremely localised and dont have a strong enough presence to produce zoo animals

for the globe
  • no aquatic
  • no taiga or temperate south america (why both have so many more animals including south american endemic animals like the llama and also have a ton of planbts ingame)
  • no temperate, taiga or tundra africa (all make sense since non have any major presence on the continent)
  • no desert or tropical europe (literally no where big enough in europe to mark tropical and desert isnt really needed)
  • no taiga or tundra oceania (makes sense since these dont really exsist on the continent)
  • antartica is missing everything except tundra (for obvious reasons)

for the plants
  • none (african tundra / oceania tundra
  • 4 or under (african taiga 3 / european tundra 4 / oceanic taiga 1 / south american tudra 2 / south american taiga 3 / south american desert 3 / south american aqautic 4)

  • the fact that south america has 2 exclusive taiga plants for only a handful of animals and taiga isnt even on its map is annoying same with the exclusive south american tundra plant which doesnt even make sense in a king penguin habitat
  • south america is extremely lacking of the 7 biomes 4 have under 5 plants and grasslands has exactly 5 this needs fixing
  • the polylepis tree existing just once again proves the consider alpine tundra but still didnt give it to the llama and once again proving frontier doesnt care about hemispheres when talking taiga the monkey puzzle and puya tree exist as south american taiga exclusives and are more representative of alpine rather than taiga.
  • we need more tundra plants in general europe just drew the short straw
  • african and oceanic tundra plants are not needed unless its something like watermelon snow which crosses almost all continents (im not sure about africa) and both hemispheres.
  • we need more south and central american plants in general especially non tropical ones.
  • oceanic taiga is useless

An attempt I made at recreating an Australian alpine environment in PZ last year, using ghost gums as a substitute for snow gums. Australia’s mountains are definitely far too small for a taiga map to be necessary (New Zealand on the other hand…) but it would be cool if the dingo, platypus, common wombat, red-necked wallaby and Tasmanian devil received the taiga tag given they are fairly prominent animals in our alpine and subalpine regions (emus kinda too but more marginally). Maybe even alongside the addition of the snow gum, given that’s both a very attractive tree and our most iconic alpine plant.

Really that’s all just dreaming though. The only animal I’d ever expect Frontier to give the Oceania + taiga tag combo is the kea, and that’s unlikely for obvious reasons.

yeah but these are all blurring the line between taiga and alpine under most definitions of taiga it is specifically referring to the northern hemisphere deciduous forests which remain cold all year and a predominately made of conifers due to the cold oceania doesnt really have anything similar that isnt just alpine instead. Also I didnt think the platypus or emu were considered alpine.

My personal want is a corroboree frog for taiga.
