Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

One of the best thing they could do over the next two years would be a seperate himalaya scenery pack and a mountains animal pack.

Lets face it, the himalayas are the most interesting mountain range for zoo purposes that could really shine, but at the same time it would be pretty lame to have the mountain pack be mostly himalayan animals, neglecting other areas similar to how the arid pack did, so having two seperate packs would be quite the steal.

First of, the all and mighty mountain animal pack, with critters from all around the world like:

1. Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby
2. Barbary Sheep
3. Gelada
4. Spectacle Bear
5. Domestic Yak
6. Golden Pheasent
7. Alpine Marmot
8. Exhibit

And then we follow it up with lets say:
1. Himalayan Thar
2. Pallas Cat
3. Himalayan Monal
4. Golden Snub Nose Monkey
5. Exhibit
+ Nepalese Scenery

This way we get the best of both worlds with 2 different strong packs, one giving us a little bit for everywhere while the other hyper focuses to make sure that the himalaya is an great area to build for.
Imo the best way to handle the mountain thematic, even if britches will get another heart attack

Hummingbirds i can only see in an alpine mountains pack if it’s a scenery pack, because we’ve seen with the past 2 animal packs that frontier goes the easy route and chooses regular exhibit animals which is totally fine because it gives more spotlight and work time to habitat animals. So from my thoughts, if it’s Mountain Pack then hummingbirds, if Mountains Animal Pack then probably the salamander or mangshan viper.

All of this assuming frontier can get over their fear of birds, which is looking good based off the last 2 packs.

Whats a pack you want next but don't think its gonna be next? So a pack you think wll happen at some point but not next.
Alpine/Mountain Pack. - Featuring the Fantastic Four of Alpine biomes - Markhor, Spectacled Bear, Gelada and Pallas Cat (and the giant salamander as exhibit I guess)

Pretty sure if it comes it'll come as a Scenery Pack, but just in case, also throwing down the Himalayan Tahr as an inclusion in an animal pack.

Humming Birds realistically how the game works know are the best choices for our first aviaries. In a way works like butterflies.
Why like butterflies? They dont need a large model like a bird of prey, parrot, macaw, etc..., with one model they can edit skins for different species and low edit models. Due the speed of them they could have looped animations.
Other bird I could see smaller and with looped animations are lorikeets. But that for later ones.
The only current birds I can see with how they are coded as normal exibiths are:
  • Secretary Bird
  • Pelicans
  • Cranes
  • Storks

Depends how long the loop goes for… a 5 second loop would be noticeable for most species, a 10 minute loop wouldn’t be noticeable for almost any.

Finches, wrens, any other small perching birds…

Ducks, geese, swans, peafowl, lyrebird, turkeys, Guinea fowl, most wading birds,…..etc.

antartica I want my leopard seal
I know Africa has had a lot of love, but I'm warming up to getting a safari animal pack down the line if it's something like this:

Secretary Bird
Hamadryas Baboon
Greater Kudu
Banded Mongoose
Kirk’s Dik-dik
Spurred Tortoise
Grey Crowned Crane
Naked Mole Rat (Exhibit)
africa is sooooo under represented it isnt even in first place anymore. but seriously I think the next pack will be african heavy again. We have be swapping back and forth basically each pack on which continent is in the lead currently its asia.

I saw this trend to and I think it makes sense in a way. Scenery packs having only 5 animals makes the need for a strong exhibit animals that can help make the roster feel more full which walkthrough exhibits are alot more impactful and the animals more noticeable than their smaller counterparts. Animals packs on the other hand have enough animals that they dont need a super strong exhibit animal to help the roster feel full but instead need something more subtle to round out the roster and we still need small exhibit animals the last 2 picks the tortoise and viper were incredible for reptile diversity within the game.

basically scenery packs need to stretch 5 animals as far as they can whereas animal packs dont need each animal to be as impactful to feel full.

about hummingbirds I think yeah they will be great in a mountain scenery pack and the chinese salamander should never ever be considered an exhibit animal it is one of the few chances for a habitat amphibian.

I think a Central American pack could work well for Spring, with some Caribbean or Meso-American scenery. Perhaps it could cover some of the following species:
  • Northern Tamandua
  • Geoffroy's Spider Monkey
  • Brown Pelican
  • Central American Agouti
  • Caribbean Flamingo
  • West-Indian Manatee
  • Rhinoceros Iguana (E)
  • Hummingbirds (WE)
It could also be expanded to Latin America, but I think that would suit better for an Animal Pack (including the Ocelot, South American Coati, White-Faced Saki).

If we're back with regional packs, why not consider another Africa pack for Summer, for instance one focussing on the East of the continent, which has quite some unique fauna:
  • Gelada
  • Gerenuk
  • Shoebill
  • Mantled Guereza
  • Greater Kudu
  • Kirk's Dik-Dik
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Naked Mole-Rat (E)
I know it's antelope-heavy, but all three species are quite iconic and besides it features two monkeys, a bird and our first hyrax. It could even include some more widespread animals like the Honey Badger, Marabou Stork, Great White Pelican or Serval.

I forgot to write more. I was tired but yeah I can see those too!

Question: How long are the loops of the butterflies?

West-Indian Manatee

The only way I can see a manatee now in PZ is with a special exibith like walkthrough or a new kind of exibith fences (marine reptiles in JWE2). How its programmed and how the staff ingame carry and release the animals in the exibith. The only "marine" creature I can see are sea turtles due these usually go to land. And staff releasing the turtle in the exibith and the turtles going to water.

I will say this next dlc is even more uncertain for me than any of the others. There are a lot of factors at play:

  1. Lay offs
  2. Poor financial year
  3. Planet Zoo is still selling “well”
  4. Planet Zoo is the most played Frontier game with an average of 6,000 players a day.
  5. Still no console release (a potential huge source of money)
  6. Frontier said they would continue to support their real time management games
  7. The 5th year is coming up (I find this slightly important, 5 years of development is a nice number to end on)
  8. The next game is coming up
So I don’t know what to think, maybe the next couple DLCs will mix things up to try to get interest back into planet zoo. Or maybe they won’t change anything. Maybe the next dlc will be the last, maybe it will end around the 5th anniversary. Maybe they will add birds, monkeys, or aquatic animals. Maybe they will stick with the safe ungulates, and Carnivora. I genuinely don’t know what will happen. Personally I think the next dlc will be Latin America/ Amazon/ South America.
