Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

The expected happened, but I haven't lost hope for a last DLC! Very satisfied with the state PZ has ended at, would have hoped for a lil bit more stuff but I'm very happy with what the game is at this point. Now is the time to perfect all my skills and fill my savefile with mods, if I Zt2 kept me entertained for so many years PZ for sure has the power to do the same (if not more).
As it has been speculated, let's hope for a more expensive last DLC with what we usually get + a little bit more, I want to be positively surprised with it. No hope, no expectations, ready to say goodbye to some of the most fun I've had with the development of a videogame ever.

To those who sy they spend so much money on the game and now feature or animal XY wasn't implemented: You buy the "is" state of a game, not a "will be". Unless there is a promise from the developers. Otherwise they are just not responsible for your imagined future.

And I still don't believe in "missed potential". They would not leave money with flying birds etc. on the table. They end support because the game can not deliver what the community is currently asking for.

I still believe a fresh start and Planet Zoo 2 can. It's not "starting over" only, it's "starting fresh". With new and open possibilities. But even witj PZ 2 we will buy the "is" state. Not a future.

Greetings fellow carbon based lifeforms!

As promised, here is an overview of the order of games being discussed in the stream tomorrow:

  • Intro
  • Planet Zoo: Console Edition
  • Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters: Console Edition
  • Elite Dangerous

I can't share exact timings because that would require insinuating that time is a linear constant and not an ever flowing river that reconstitutes itself to the whims of someone talking too long to explain something...Like this sentence.

Important things to note, there will be competitions and Twitch Drops as well as lots of juicy information so I would recommend tuning in for the whole thing so you can avoid missing out on anything shiny.

Stream starts at 18:00 UTC on www.twitch.tv/frontier so be sure to tune in!
I haven't seen this information on the Planet Zoo forum. I wouldn't expect any info tor pc, but I'll try to watch the stream just in case.

I’m still waiting until we see a Planet Coaster 2 to see if a Planet Zoo sequel would be worth both my money and time, if it’s just the first game with birds and marines, it’s not that interesting imo.

However I think something that can turn it around is a keeper mode. Combine the best part of the Xbox zoo tycoon game into PZ and it would be so cool. I think what PZ needs is a way for players to still play the game, but not build constantly as it can get overwhelming, I often get into my park and struggle with building cause I just don’t feel like it all of a sudden, we need a feature that players can take a break from building and goof off, I think a keeper mode with buggies and tasks would be the perfect thing.

but a lot of people (including me) are starting to wonder if the paid dlc mentioned was only the ones being transferred to console.
That literally makes no sense, how would they be referring to paid dlcs for the console version when the console version had not even been announced yet? That upcoming PDLC in the report is for the PC version -_- you guys truly get paranoid at times.

For me it's less that any one feature or animal wasn't implemented - more that the game just feels unfinished in its current state. I agree there was never any guarantee that x, y or z would be included. It's still OK to be disappointed that the game, while great, has missed some opportunities. We know that flying birds, for example, are perfectly possible and deliverable because we have bats and butterflies.

But we shall just have to see what Frontier announce next. This is all just speculation and throwing out a few thoughts on my part.

Yeah for me is also not about specific animals that makes the game feel incomplete, is more about more general aspects like:

  • lack of SA representation compared to other continents ( which i hope next DLC fixes)
  • lack of birds ( in general not just flying birds even though that is as well a whole cathegory on it's own)
  • lack of exhibit animals diversity ( specially now that we know is possible to have several different species in the same box, and tbh they don't requiere as much resources as habitat animals to be made)
  • some iconic and versitle zoo animals missing, like baboons, tropical monkeys and birds from SA and Africa, waterfowls of all kinds including pelicans, and even (sighs) petting zoo animals
  • bears (likely, only two species being left out randomnly for some reason and also they coincidently are the american species and an overep of Asiatic bears)
  • lack of more common and general species in favor of VERY niche ones: Nile lechwe, quokka, Titan beetle, etc.
  • missing important reptiles: no african croc, no mid size habitat tortoise, no Australian monitor, lack of lizards, no cobra or green anaconda or tree boa or pythons.

All of this omissions felt very intencional while were getting continuos support. Now they just feel odd that most of this would end up being excluded.

The reality of the situation, though, is that with everything new they add to the game - it opens a new window for something that (from the fan perspective) could be done. The goal posts just keep moving. There's definitely aspects of the roster that are lacking but, TBH, even with another year or two of support I think people would be calling it "incomplete."

Especially if they were to add aviaries, full aquatics, and/or petting zoos. Each new mechanic that gets added to the game opens up new options and potential for expansion either WRT viable species or additional mechanics, scenery pieces that previously wouldn't have been very useful, etc.

The "petting zoo" mechanic is a great example of this. If they were to implement that for the llama and announced a DLC with 4 domestic species? We'd wind up with a 'domestics species meta wishlist' and the calls for other features would pop-up (e.g., hand-feeding giraffes). Same with aviaries. If that were added as a feature, the demand for certain bird species would shoot way up. Or, more accurately, the demand would bebcome much more apparent because it feels like there's more potential for their addition.

To me, this says more about how passionate we are as fans than any shortcoming of Frontier, TBH. With the exception of the Latin American representation in the game which is just kind of confusing at this point.

The TL;DR version of this: The game will probably never feel complete because with a game like this? There's always something new that could be added.

We know that looped flying animations are possible. Maybe that wasn't enough for Frontier. Maybe they have the bigger vision of free flying which they couldn't achieve, so instead of compromising, they do not implement it in Planet Zoo. Maybe they can achieve that with a new version. Maybe not. The future will tell.
Even Developers have ambitions and sometimes what would be "good enough" for us, would not be "good enough" for them and that is actually a good sign. Enogh companies would sell half-baked features instead, only doing the bare minimum and at the end of the day that leads to step backs in sequels or indeed repeating sequels with no major improvement etc.

I only have to look at free climbing and can tell that the calculation with movements needs ironing out. I have no reason to believe free flying would have looked better than free climbing.
Plus, if they want us to give modular building options with aviaries too, they need to find a way to make roofing more easy. Maybe they simply couldn't achieve that.

I am 100% sure no one at Frontier sat there, reading about flying birds all the time and be like "nah, not in the mood."

Sure. Frontier obviously has their reasons for not implementing some of this stuff. But the fact remains that it's very hard to make a realistic zoo without small birds, even if they came only with looped animation.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti a Planet Zoo 2 or anything like that. I'm just not ready to see this game lose support just yet. I still had so many hopes for what we might see next. Who knows? Maybe I'll love a PZ2 just as much, or even more! Doesn't stop me lamenting the possible end of support for the game we have right now. ;)

I agree. There will be always be more animals, etc that people want. There still seem to be some really glaring omissions though, without which it's difficult to really make a realistic feeling zoo - at least, that's how I feel. And that's what I'm surprised about. Appreciate that not everyone wants the same thing.

Khm, khm...get ready for this cope:

DLC animals that are part of art (Rhino, Llama) for base game console means that some DLCs won't be released, but rather integrated in base game, which further means that total of DLCs mentioned till March 2025 includes new planned DLCs

😉

Man whatever youre on i want some too :D

So what's everyone's final call? Are we getting the next pack before or after console release? I'm personally thinking after, as the announcement of a pack might collide with console coming and it will feel like its too much for them to handle for marketing both. An announcement a week or 2 after console release is what I'm betting on at the moment.

I agree, a DLC release after the console release makes the most sense, in order to keep up the hype.

Makes sense to be after so marketing for the new console edition can focus on getting as many people to buy the game. Before just would feel like the dlc is being rushed to fit into a timeslot before frontier disappears into thin air for us pc players.
