Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Was looking through the ocelot discussion and realized I forgot to ask something

@jcp011c @Markiz @Fini @KönigDerKaffeebohnen @markun @NachoB @Tinou97 ….How would you guys feel about the margay instead of the ocelot? Fills a similar niche but looks just a bit weirder and cuter. Might be more interesting.

I agree with those who would prefer more new world monkeys and birds than another cat though— and especially the Brazilian porcupine which someone mentioned. It actually has always been one of my most wished-for animals. But I wonder how much justice frontier would do it. (For instance, even after the redesign, the binturong is still a bit… ehh… some weird and unique animals require very precise models, vocals, and animation to capture what is so special about them. )

I also find it bizarre we got the caracal over the serval, since servals are so much more fun to look at. If we get ocelot and caracal but not serval, it would feel weird to me.
The Margay would definitely be a curveball pick to add instead of the totally expected Ocelot. I'd be okay with it. Honestly I'd rather not get either and get something that I personally really want like the Brazilian Porcupine, but with the Coati and at least one Primate likely taking up a lot of the rig work assuming they'd be added, I can't really see a third animal that would take a lot of effort to do. I just kind of feel resigned we're going to get a small Latin American feline, which I'm fine with even though it's not something I'm really excited about.

The packs themself.
I dont have to much issues with most animals chosen individually, besides the black rhino, sand cat and sloth bear (exhibits all sucked though besides the tortoise), but how they actually layed them out and what they chose to focus on.

Tropical should have been an animal pack, should have focused on south anerica and should have brought something new.
Instead we got gibbon 2, tropical pig 3, a monitor which value could have been achieved by giving the nile monitor deep diving and the fossa.
Imagine the gibbon was a new world monkey and the monitor the victoria crowned pidgeon, aswell as the sloth the right one.

Pack fixed

Arid?
Why is it a north africa focus?
Why does it focus on north africa without actually including the baboon and the tortoise?
Why are there 5 ungulates and a freacking cat?

Keep the Dromedary and Porcupine, add the baboon, tortoise, perentie, yellow footed rock wallaby and either collared peccary (best animal of last year) or any of the arid animals we cut and we got a pack with the same number of "clones" that isnt a middle finger to the expected desert biome pack.

Oceania.....is fine. Spectacle bat sucks, so many cool and common exhibits and we get a meaningless flying fox, even if this wasnt birds just imagine getting the tuatara for example here or a frilled lizard. Wasted opportunity.
Otherwise idk not the pack for me but it wasnt meant to be and thats cool.
Pack had a vision and deliverd it.

Eurasia is so so close to be great, literally just swap out the sloth bear and maybe saiga for a monkey or bird and thats a banger pack.
Gray hulman and western cappercallie would be my choices, but any pheasent and the golden snub nose monkey would also have worked wonders.

Peccary was the best animal of the year, followed by wisent and wild boar so no complains there
Interesting take which I actually agree with a bit of it. Even though I though Oceania and Eurasia were great packs, the first half of the year was not that great for me. Despite getting at least one animal in every pack I was really excited to get - two in the Tropical Pack actually thought one was the exhibit animal - the remainder of the packs were somewhat disappointing for me even though I've warmed up to them since release. Though I admit, I was never really on Team Fossa I do realize many people really want it added in.

Tropical would have been much better released as an animal pack, and as you say, with more focus on South America. Arid pack was very ungulate heavy, so was Eurasia but it actually had ungulates I was excited about whereas every single ungulate in the Arid pack was something I didn't really care if we'd gotten or not. That's including the dromedary. Like you, I really question why "Tropical" had a worldwide focus but really barely touched on the area that needed it the most, while "Arid" focused on one region of the world.

Conversely, Eurasia had an odd pick with the Sloth Bear that I really didn't care if we'd gotten or not, but I'm not really unhappy with it either. Just would have preferred something else, maybe EBB or the Eurasian Otter. I personally like the Saiga, but can see it could have been replaced with the Markhor. The Markhor may only have Asian representation and not really fit "Eurasia" but that's also the case with the Takin and Sloth Bear. But overall, quite happy with this pack.

Even Oceania has the Quokka which I do wish had been the Tree Kangaroo, but at the same time, I actually think the Quokka is a cool inclusion especially for an oddball pick. So feeling that way, this is the pack from last year that I was happiest about.

But I digress to the point of the thread. Relating back to what's coming next, which I hope will be Latin American focused. It will give Frontier a chance to represent Latin America in a way that the Tropical pack pretty much failed at doing.

Frontier has a history of adding really oddball animal into packs that noone saw coming, some of which were really low on the meta wishlist aka nile lechwe and water monitor.
So no the ultimate question: which one is it gonna be for the potential SA pack?

Since Frontier obviously loves ungulates i think the marsh deer is not out of the question.
As for oddballs im lowkey hoping for:
Tayra: Pretty neat alternative for the small predator niche instead of another cat
Tegu: A different kinda of habitat lizard and something for non jungle SA

Black caiman

Vicuña? I'm honestly good with the llama as far as camelids go, so I wouldn't really be excited if we got them. They're pretty rare in NA too, but I have seen them at Southwick's Zoo. Last I knew they were the only zoo in the US that has them, and they are only ZAA 😂

I cannot believe that we are getting last DLC and people are arguing over what CAT should we get. 😭 God, I hope there is not yet another cat if it is truly the last DLC.
Whay if it is a dog? Idk grey fox for instance
If its is the last pack there is only one carnivoran group i want to see, its musteloids.
Coati on the top, but would also enjoy honey badger and yellow throated marten, not instead of the coati ofc.

At this point I really hope there won't be any true oddballs for a Latin America pack with the exception of the Brazilian Porcupine. Which I really do not see happening. Subbing the Margay for the Ocelot would be a potential oddball as already discussed. The other animals I'm thinking of for the pack are not obscure, the Patagonian Mara being maybe the least requested. And that's in the Metalist top 30 I believe.

Same for a wrap up/finale pack. They don't all have to be super hugely requested, but bringing an animal almost no one's really wanted into that kind of pack wouldn't go over well either.

Tegu would be really cool. Agouti is both cool and realistic in my opinion. Maybe something like Guanaco could make an appearance
