Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I feel that the announcement method of DLC this time is larger than before. At the same time, I believe the possibility of flying bird DLC is also increasing(At least it will be a large DLC?)
They may not only announce DLC and free update features, but also reveal some future plans for PZ and JWE2 (either complete or continue with updates)

I think they will not release any news about PZ2 for at least the past year, as this can easily lead to Console players feeling scammed

How is it larger than before?

If anything, it will be smaller than before, it looks like we're not getting the usual streams we always got. Nor the kind of teasing that they've done in the past.
I mean, no surprise there unfortunately if they dumped almost all their CMs. For all this stuff you actually need people.

I wonder who they will blame for the lack of engagement with the upcomming DLC then. I'm sure management will get creative about it.

I will say I have a great feeling about getting a monkey, though I don’t know what it would be. I know it isn’t the most popular, but I can see them doing the squirrel monkey. “Easy” clone off the capuchin rig.

I generally think it’s a mixed bag though, don’t know what the next dlc. If they announce it on earth day I can still see an “Earth” related pack. If not an around the world pack, I can still see a South America one finishing us off.

If the current system can contain capuchin monkeys in an aviary then theres no reason why it couldnt a flying habitat bird.

Flying birds + gridded mesh and boom all problems solved
Yeah, that's the logical option. I'm just skeptical about it because imagine how wonky flying birds, like parrots and birds of prey, would be phasing through barriers. We had that issue already with swimming, and I don't want to imagine flyers escaping; it'd be a nightmare

I don’t know about 100% true flight. But I think by using the climbing system we can make it look convincing enough. Like at the max if two platforms are 16m apart birds can “jump” between them. Or certain climbing structures birds can perch on. I think the smaller and faster flying birds: budgies, lorikeets, finches, bee eaters, songbirds, etc. would be too much and only work in the WTE.

Something like a scarlet ibis I can see using the climbing structures, we have many small fast moving arboreal animals. If I can handle them being a bit wonky I feel the same about birds being a bit imperfect. At least having the option creatively would be nice. Placing the ibis, maybe it can jump up to or around 16m at the max. Or maybe it makes smaller “jumps” but it can use the climbing space like the lemurs or monkeys. I think we can make it convincing enough.

Imma be honest: I don't think we're gonna get a huge bird DLC anytime soon, if ever. I would love one, and I tried to remain as optimistic as possible, but when in 5 years we've only gotten a handful of birds but then we get oddballs like proboscis monkeys or saigas, I just am skeptical.

I would love to be proven wrong, though. I bet an all bird DLC, even if they're all ground dwelling birds, would be extremely popular

I got to be honest, it might be popular with a lot of us on the forum. I don’t know how popular it would be with the general public. Which is why I doubt it would happen, the forum is but a small portion of the fan base. Still, I could also be very wrong. Ducks, pelicans, and others are popular animals. I’m sure this next dlc will be good, but I definitely expect more of the same.

For next week this is my rough prediction:
  1. I think a monkey will happen, and/or a baboon. I do get a feeling if we get one we might not get another.
  2. Bird will happen, don’t know if we will get more than 1. Secretary bird is #1 right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a “clone” like the American flamingo or black swan.
  3. I think coati is also a pretty sure shot.
  4. For the Frontier basics, I do think we could get one of the bears, and a cat. So the ABB/ spectacled bear, and a Pallas cat/ ocelot/ serval.
  5. Exhibit animal is dependent on the theme, if SA maybe something like the basilisk. If world wide I think the cobra.
It’s honestly all up in the air for me.

Well, I'm basing my quote off of comments I've seen on Steam and YouTube videos. I have no idea about other platforms, like Reddit, but I've seen time and time again people demanding birds, at least in the past. I mean, imagine the looks on people's faces if we were to get a scarlet ibis, secretary bird, and grey-crowned crane altogether in a single pack.

But, frustratingly, there are many other areas that are lacking. Baboons, Asian monkeys, American monkeys, African croc, North American deer, Asian deer, etcetera etcetera etcetera.

I dunno, I'm probably gonna stop trying to speculate and just see what's thrown at us. Then, and only then, can I speculate

As much as i would love it i think a pack needs variety. An all birds pack would cross off a lot of gaps in the bird's roster but i don't know if it is going to be popular with general audiences. People like cute mammals, cats, bears, rodents, etc.
If it comes with flying birds, new features with aviaries or even incubator buildings for eggs etc. it would be a succes. On a grand scale birds have a lot of diversity. We have cute birdies like budgies, we have carnivores with birds of prey, we have waterfowl for swimming diversity & deep diving. It would be just like the marine mania DLC from Zoo Tycoon but with birds. I think that would work. But at this stage, it's not gonna work for Planet Zoo anymore.
