Spring dlc Speculation 2023

It wouldn't have to have a coastal theme. But in most of the speculation I've seen/read, folks are suggesting/hoping it includes some of the highly-requested animals (Tasmanian devil, fossa, tree kangaroo, kiwi; maybe subbing out one two of those depending) and having scenery with a coastal/beach theme.

Which makes sense because, well, how else would you represent islands?
By making it an animal pack, allowing it to represent all the very different islands of the world and not just the cliché tropical paradise?

Why another bovine of all possible oddballs?
In my opinion Anoa would be perfect for Islands pack. I would even prefer it more than Kiwi but that just my preference.

The Islands animal pack would be a perfect solution:

1. Tassie - Tasmania - star animal ⭐
2. Tree kangaroo - New Guinea
3. Kiwi - New Zealand
4. Fossa - Madagascar
5. Anoa - Sulawesi
6. Manatee - Caribbean
7. Walrus - Arctic

Oh my gosh. This would blow my mind! Great picks.

Unfortunately I didn’t fit any monkey and I really wanted this pack to be diverse but I think that tree kangaroo takes this niche nicely.
Before Siamang people said that having a gibbon is impossible. So I think that manatee is totally doable.
People love aquatic animals and manatees are the best representation of Caribbean also quite popular in zoos.
Because of the same reason I wanted to include Walrus. Cold climate representation, Aquatic, highly requested and super cute.
Both Walrus and Manatee would be my private stars of this pack 🤩

Which makes sense because, well, how else would you represent islands? I guess a Polynesian theme could work. That's a really good point. It would feel like a stretch for some of the critters (e.g., Tasmanian devil) but it would be close enough that it could work.

My point was mostly that the animals and themes suggested weren't really lining up. And I was struggling to find a theme that might work. But yeah, Polynesian would do it! And honestly, it all goes out the window if they opt for an animal pack this time around. LOL

(And honestly, looking back on all of it, I don't think I was articulating myself very well. Sorry!)

Yeah, after the special livestream when we have a general sense of the theme - guessing becomes a bit easier. And based on some of the themes we're discussing... I think they're disparate enough that we'll get a sense of what it is immediately. Haha.
I meant before the livestream in speculation

Which of the kiwi, tassie devil, fossa and tree kangaroo represent the cliché tropical paradise?
None... but the build style suggested in the post I responded to certainly was. I edited the original post so i could respond to the question... probably not the best alteration, but I was on my ninth hour of work at the time.

Crazy idea. What if they do a 360 on us and go back to area based packs. Or at least mabey the scenery pack could.

Oceania
Patagonia
India
Middle east

If anyone likes those ideas. Or suggest what places you'd want covered if we got more.
Pretty unlikely, like other folks have said but... I'd be into it depending on the specific regions/areas.

  1. Central America (Scenery Pack): Collared peccary, white-nosed coati, ocelot, and Geoffroy's spider monkey with a toucan walk-through habitat. Would include an Adobe building set and artwork, additional foliage, etc.

  2. Amazon (Animal Pack): Sloth, scarlet ibis, bush dog, spectacled bear, howler monkey, gold lion tamarin, and tamandua + macaw walk-through exhibit and the first fish exhibit - piranhas. Would also add new enrichment (smaller monkey toys; sloth bed/nest) and free update would incorporate keeper ability to hold/display bigger animals outside of exhibits (e.g., iguanas - so the macaws could get it too)
    • Bit of a stretch to have two exhibits but... Both piranhas and macaws seem essential. I would also imagine the piranhas being in a horizontal tank versus the usual vertical approach
  3. Oceania (Animal Pack): Tasmanian devil, saltwater crocodile, Matschie's tree kangaroo, kiwi, quoll, short-beaked echidna, sugar glider, and a budgie walk-through (or kookaburra non-walkthrough!

If we are doing this, I know there is near zero chance but would still love an Indian Subcontinent Animal Pack with:

1. Lion-tailed macaque
2. Blackbuck
3. Indian crested porcupine
4. Takin
5. Fishing cat
6. Indian giant narrow-headed softshell turtle
7. Lesser adjutant stork
8. King cobra

Indian muntjac could also fit well. Hanuman langur as an alternate monkey; nilgai as an alternate antelope; markhor as an alternate caprid. Sloth bear, honey badger, various monals/tragopans, Asian palm civet, yellow-throated marten, Indian/Burmese star tortoise, gaur, demoiselle crane, slow/grey slender loris, even dromedary camel are other habitat options. Indian flying fox or Nicobar pigeon are options for WE. Leopard/tokay gecko as alternate for the cobra if it's regular exhibit.

Instant buy for me! but also India dedicated pack without Sloth bear would make me cry 😢

How about we compromise and settle on an Islands Domestics Pack:

Shetland Pony
Domestic Pig (the ones that swim on the coast of the bahamas)
Scottish Highland Cattle
Red Junglefowl
Bunnys from the Japanese Bunny Island Tourist Attraction
Domestic Sheep (they are really important to Ireland!!)
WE: Budgie

(please don't kill me, it's just a joke 😂 )
You joke, but Shetland Pony, Scottish Highland Cattle, Kuneku Pig and Japanese Domestic Quail (very common in zoos, just not really in your face) and WE canarys would be a more then acceptable domestics pack for me.

I wouldn't say no to an animal pack. I've been doing some more reading about Porcupines to expand beyond the Crested/Cape/Indian/North America/Brazilian species - the latter of which could easily be the oddball pick for a Rainforest or Aboreal pack. There's a couple of Old World Porcupines that live on islands, both the Philippine and the Sumatran Porcupine.

To say nothing of the Rhinos, Tigers and Gibbons. Then jumping back to Madagascar and the very visually unique Aye-Aye. Then we have the Hawaiian and Mediterranean Monk seals. A shame for many reasons the Caribbean Monk Seal is extinct.

Ah as we go round and round in the Africa/Asia/Oceania range though. If we went full Animal Pack I would hope that there would be at least one representative from the New World, but what. It seems like most of the thoughts I've had for one have ranges that extend beyond islands (American Flamingo), or are just tremendously obscure (Sable Island Horse)
We dont need any obscure whacko island subspecies, if we take the scenery squad + a primate (lemure, sulawesi crested macaque, javan langur), a second bird (nene, white cheeked pintail, victoria crowned pidgeon) and an ungulate (shetland pony, kuneku pig, low land anoa) and we got quite the dope pack.
For new world representation, besides the great white cheeked pintail, the rhinoceros iguana would be a very fun addition
