Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Wow what a dumbsterfire of an underwhelming pack.
Glad for everyone who likes it, but im amazed by how frontier managed to exactly do the opposite of what the game would benefit most.
This pack structure of carnivora, primate, ungulate, reptile sloth could have easily worked and filled the holes in the roster, but welp here we are.
First of, focusing half the pack each on africa and SEA was unnessecary. The two animals are fine, but just imagine for a second if we have gotten 2 south american animals instead, like the coati and a monkey, aswell as the crocodile monitor for new guinea to overlap with both oceania and asia aswell as being more visually uniqe and then the riverhog.
Suddenly a pack that adds hardly anything (2 clones, non cat cat + sloth and the hog) and to the literally best represented region in the game with animals from that exact region and africa of all places would add a little bit everywhere and have the focus where we would actually need it.
The animals on their own are all fine, but the constelation and context make it seem like frontier is completly tonedeaf to what the game is actually lacking.
What a waste of a good theme, but hey atleast the scenery looks great.
Ironic that the one animal pack that should have been a scenery pack gets its scenery in one that really really REALLY should have been an animal one.
Just baffling decision making on frontiers part

Thoughts regarding these species interspecies enrichment? I know siamangs are housed in real life with orangutans, but I don't know about lar gibbons. Red River hogs have been housed with gorillas, but I'm not sure what else. I doubt the Asian water monitor or the fossa will have any. People with more knowledge, enlightening me!
In Planckendael, gibbons are definitely kept together with orangutans. They are northern white-cheeked gibbons though if I'm not mistaken. But I don't see why lar gibbon would be different.

I just woke up and watches the trailer. I'm kinda annoyed ngl. I know I'm the guy who really likes lizards but I'm upset with the Asian Water Monitor as a choice.

Like tegu is right there for some SA rep. Or even crocodile monitor a highly aboreal one is found new guinea which technically still South east asia. But we're getting it so now my only hope is that it deep dives and that they add that to the nile monitor as well.

It does deep dive! Elt confirmed and it says on steam!

Oh no that's just as bad as missing south America, missing out tropical Africa would annoy an equally large enough group. With 3 massive represtation needed for tropical Asia, Africa and South America there is absolutely no way to make everyone happy even with an animal pack
I don't really think tropical Asia was needed before this pack and especially not now. I think SE Asia is giving African savannah run for its money now in representation department.

Even tropical Africa was more fairly represented without the monkeys than SA

I think it's obvious SA needs to take majority of spots in as much as possible new packs to catch up.

But a large portion of the playerbase are creative builders, it would not do any good preventing any new scenery pieces for the end of the game life. The new addition of southeast asia scenery pieces is a long awaited theme many have been wanting since the sea animal pack
Hot take: the new SEA pieces are awesome, but they should have came in the actual SEA pack from a few years ago. The SEA Animal Pack should have been a scenery one, with four habitat animals from that hyper-specific area.

Had things been done that way, this Tropical Pack could have pulled from a great variety of animals and areas. Making the “Tropical” DLC theme ever so perfect for an animal pack. But alas..

If SEA wasn't an animal pack we may have never got animal packs though.

Scares me, the bushfires over Christmas a couple of years ago were devastating. I went hiking in about 12 of the areas over the last few months and the devastation is awful. I have the nasty feeling that one of our bird species is now very much extinct due to them.
We can only hope that such big fires will never occour again... If I think back to this year (I live here in southern Germany where bushfires or similar aren't common yet...although it's getting worse every year) these news were absolutely shocking.

AWM and Fossa won't have IE bonus with anything. Lar Gibbon I'm sure will have interspecies enrichment with the Orangutan, ASCO and Malayan Tapir at least, I've found pictures of them co-habitating with Babirusas as well so that's possible. The Red River Hog should have a massive amount of options for Interspecies enrichment. Giraffe, Zebra, Warthog, Nyala, Bongo, Okapi, Southern White Rhino, Gorilla, Elephant, possibly more.

I would LOVE for them to have interspecies with Gorilla. Not only is that a practice in some zoos, but it would look amazing

Alright, I finally have enough time to give my in depth thoughts on the pack:
  • Fossa: Great pick, I'm always down for more Madagascar representation.
  • Red River Hog: Ah, the Hot Take Hog will indeed make it into the game.... And I love it!
  • Brown-throated Sloth: I completely understand the want for the Two-toed Sloth and that is what would also prefer, however, I am really excited to be getting a Sloth!
  • Asian Water Monitor: Happy to be getting another habitat lizard, but other than that, it's an OK pick
  • Lar Gibbon: My least favorite animal of the pack. I would have much preferred a Spider Monkey, but more Gibbon variety is cool.

For the scenery....I LOVE IT!! The plants especially! Overall I think this pack is pretty good!
