Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I think it's less costing more to make and more about the time it takes to make. Like a Barbary macaque would probably take less time for them to make then a hamadryas baboon. Animals will take longer to make depending of if we already have something similar in the game it can be based off of.
Time is money - if it takes more time to make then it, necessary, costs more to make (staff time = staff wages). Staff wages (I.e.. time) is pretty much the only cost involved in development, barring any travel that might be involved if that’s needed as a component of the development process (other than costs that have likely already been accrued like equipment, etc.)

If it comes at least let an african crocodilian come as well.
Yes!!!! I would like a large crocodile more than a smaller crocodile, so I am leaning more toward the nile crocodile. There's only one zoo in the U.S. so has them that I know of, so it's put a little bit of a damper on them to me. I don't really want more small crocodylians to be honest, but dwarf crocodiles and slender-snouted crocodiles are also pretty cool species. So I guess I'm team nile!

I really just want more tropical African species. Maybe a yellow-backed duiker too?

Nile Crocodile - Red River Hog - Sand Cat - Wolverine - Spectacled Bear - Olive Baboon - Tasmanian Devil:

The "guess how we linked these together and win some merchandise" pack.
Easy peasy, it's the exploration pack: explore the rivers, jungles, deserts, boreal forests, mountains, grasslands and woodlands of the world!

Not gonna lie, I'm a little skeptical of most of the DLC ideas floating around. Dong get me wrong, all the themes are ones I would be over the moon happy with, but I feel most of the community, myself including, looking at crafting DLCs strictly from a "zoo nerd" perspective. Let me clarify, I'm not policing people on how they speculate, that's ludicrous. But, in my opinion, there are more aspects to animal selection and theme than what animals seem to be highly requested. We know certain animals cost more to make, especially if they are making a new rig (I think, I have no background in game development). Marketability is also something taken into account I'm sure. For example, a red river hog or a peccary would knock the majority of our socks off, while to the general public, it's just a weird pig. It seems now, that most of the player base, or at least the people who ate vocal about the game are zoo/animal nerds, so maybe this is less of a priority now than at launch.
I pretty much agree with your reasoning (specially the bits about each DLC becoming more unpredictable), but at the same time I think that at this point, every roster I can think of is full of species for animal nerds. Most basic animal types have already been covered, very few clearly different species and know by the general public remain to be included. Sloth, porcupine, coati, walrus, baboon, dromedary, manatee...? Which it's a decent number but doesn't fill a year of DLCs. The way I see it, each pack has included more and more less broadly known animals. But I don't think this is bad! Maybe we all have to accept that PZ is a game for animal nerds... But there is a lot of us around there buying Frontier's stuff

However, there are two options that would make for lots of new packs with lots of new species recognizable for the geberal public: Aviary and/or Aquarium expansions, with new mechanics.

I can think of at least 3 AZA zoos that have Niles so they definitely have a good captive presence

I just looked it up and on the first page of Google, I saw that Bronx, Memphis, and Boise have them, so I would be happy if we got them. Through in the fossa, sifaka, radiated tortoise too. I could finally build the Madagascar dome of my dreams. I think this criterion is inherently flawed and skewed based on where you live, but it matters to me personally as I try to make zoos with realistic rosters.

Anyone remember times when frontier leaked aquatic pack? This video also featured small glimpse into development.
Creating new rigs is easy and fast, but creating new animations is expensive and long. This why frontier would rather reuse as much from old animal as possible than animating new one.
