Spring dlc Speculation 2023

You don't get what I mean. Go the met wishlist, count all the animals that could fit an island pack, and all the animals that could fit a tropical pack. See which number is bigger.
I fail to see how "fans can name more tropical animals than island animals" proves tropical has greater diversity... in the end, they're all tied to a common biome and the specific parts of the world that support that biome, whereas island animals are not...

Furthermore it isn't just a popular suggestion, the animals are popular too. Going by my memory, the meta list has at least six island animals in the top 20 currently, with plenty more below... and if the last few packs are anything to go by, the days of the meta list top picks dominating a pack are well behind us.

How? Only the twilight pack broke that pattern. Wtlands, grasslands and conservation all had one or more top 10 meta wishlist animals as the main selling points.

EDIT:
Wetlands: capybara, platypus
Conservation: horse, gibbon, leopard
Twilight: wombat
Grasslands: emu, maned wolf

So even the twilight pack included a top meta wishlist animal

This common biome is the most diverse biome on earth dude, plus it spans 5 different continents.

In the context of a zoo game, there are not many relevant islands animals left. That's not to say an island pack is a bad idea, but there's also not that many high interest island animals missing that would make a scenery island pack such a bad loss.

Without aviary birds, the relevant island animals are pretty much:
  • Kiwi
  • Tasmanian devil
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Fossa
  • Lemurs

Sure they could add something niche from britain, the mediterranean, or japan, but the highly requested island species is a pretty short closed list.

Alright let's mess up the island pack speculation with my take because there more to islands than down under

  • Tasmanian devil - there that's all Oceania needs
  • Rockhopper Penguin - Bird love
  • Highland cow - cow go moo
  • Sumatran Tiger - smallest most endangered tiger adds more variety and realism compared to Bengal
  • Fossa - budget cougar makes a nice habitat pair for lemur
  • West Indian manatee - water cow go uh munches lettuce
  • American flamingo - even more bird love, plus cool color
  • Rainbow lorikeets - walkthrough exhibit
Wow birds, marine and land animals on one pack?! I'm surprised everyone wants lame scenery that we already have palm thatch for

An islands pack with no Kiwi will be very dissapointing but i do like that roster.

The japanese serow is another possibility.

Did you all not notice the 'dominating' part? One or two top ten animals is a far cry from the 3/4 or more seen in the Africa or North America packs. Also, listing 'gibbon' in the Conservation pack is a lie; the top ten pick was the Lar Gibbon and we got the much lower Siamang... just because they're from the same family group doesn't make it count.

Pretty sure the Walrus and the Musk-Ox count as island animals too; both are certainly found on arctic islands like Greenland... and again, the last few packs were not dominated by the top 10 choices... they were full of animals well below the 20 point mark on the meta list (including the Nile Lechwe with 1 vote and the Spectacled Caiman with 0!).

I love how people repeatedly put the manatee in speculation threads and act as if it wouldn't need an entire new habitat system which would be as complex implementing as aviaries.

They could do it, Frontier always surprises, but I'd expect a dedicated marine pack at the very least if they ever were to implement such a thing.

I could be wrong, but I suspect he's trying to show the naysayers that an island pack is more than just the Oceania 3, plus the Fossa.
Yeah i think it will work both as a scenery and as an animal pack, but personally i'd be ok with that oceanian roster plus the fossa for the scenery pack instead of more penguins, another flamingo and more cows

Just an example, fed up with everyone thinking Oceania and Madagascar are the only viable islands in the world

I don't think they would throw a domesticated animal in with a pack like this tbh. That would be in it's own themed pack, otherwise, it just feels really awkward. Like the llama is a unique case (which again, feels really awkward) but I also don't think they really realized that llamas are not the wild species as well (read: there is a difference) and so they went for the domestic one over the wild one. Like, they could have used the domestic water buffalo which arguably would have made more sense, but they chose the wild form rather than use a domestic one. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I do realise this is a bit random but I just went with the first island animals I thought of and threw them in, not really thinking about an overall theme apart from they are islands animals. The more iconic European island animals would be my local animals so naturally a choice of Highland cow or Scottish wildcat goes in hand

Imo island pack should excel in endemic species.
Of course there are some of them in western hemisphere
Carribeans: cuban crocodile, hutia, solenodon, cuban boa, rhinoceros iguana
Channel islands: island fox.
Vancouver Island: vancouver island marmot.
Hawaii: Nene

Sure, there is more than madagascar and oceania, but please, dont bring mainland dwellers into discussion about islands. There is absolutely no reason to include american flamingo or musk-ox in such pack.
