Spring dlc Speculation 2023

In Spanish, specifically Mexico, Central America, and South America countries that speak Spanish, a lot of the names are indigenous names from the people that lived here, such as Mayans, Aztec, Inca, and other lesser known groups

Read in another topic that you took part in the Arabian Oryx Preservation Project. You have all my respect !

Indian languages don't have words for most non-Indian species but some of the ones for native species are hilarious in English.

My favorite is the word for spoonbill, which is just spoon.

One of the few non-natives I can think of is ostrich, which is "camel chicken".

I'm just a geek I guess. As a kid I started to learn most mammals, reptiles and birds by their binomial nomenclature, so I'm always interested in ways different cultures names animals and build up categories or groups to classify / identify them.

Thanks! Israel's historical wildlife had been destroyed by the crusaders, british, ottomans...

We may never get the big predators like crocodiles and lions again, but we succesfully reintroduced arabian oryx, onager, persian fallow deer, and roe deer, and helped ibex, kleinmann's tortoise, sand cat and vulture populations recover.

I personally participated in the fallow deer and arabian oryx projects. Next year they want to start ostriches and otters.

And, often, latin names tells us a lot about how Europeans came on with names for foreign species by comparing the newly "discovered" specimen to animals known to them. My favourite animals are giraffes and the latin name borrowing from Arabic and greek for "Leopard camel" is quite a cool way to name these beauties.

Wow, thanks for your contribution to a better world 🙏 💚

I’m here for the afternoon, it’s a good distraction when waiting but I’m still checking my phone every hour.
