SRV Expansion

So I was on some planets away from the bubble recently doing guardian stuff w friends and we were thinking that srv content doesn’t seem flushed out enough so here are ideas we came up with

•Equipping SRVs:
- due to the nature of the content below i think being able to mismatch different SRV types in the same planetary vehicle hanger would be necessary

•New types (desc. used scarab as reference)
- Transporter: heavy, holds more cargo & fuel, also tanky
- Scout: VTOL like car, lightly built/agile, can take off then fly around to survey the area, additionally gets exploration data (2-3km max fly height)
- Extractor: vehicle rigged with a drill. Has the ability to mine the ground & collect element mats at a gradual rate (mini game to avoid afk farming)

- ‘amphibious or submarine transport’ for atmospheric landings, whenever that comes

•SRV Outfitting: yes please

•Module Ideas
•Hardpoints:
- Weapons:lasers, multi cannons, missle launchers...n’ such

•Core
- Hull: *inserts current types*
- Power distributor: system focused, engine focused, weapons focused, standard
- Different wheels: traction, larger, heavier, lighter
- Sensors: long range terrain view, enhanced POI detection on radar

•Optional internals
(Only 1-2 optional internal slots potentially)
- Winch: to help your clumsy friend outta that ravine
- Solar panels: generates fuel except when on the dark side of a planet
- Scientific equipment: gives additional detailed reports of the surrounding area generates exploration progress upon use
- Rapid inflatable Cushion, aka RIC: quickly deploys a bag that’s kinetic absorbent around your SRV to break falls then retracts it after
- Standard boarding computer: acts as an auto pilot for your SRV when you enter the proximity of your ship and brings you just underneath the hatch and brings up the interaction menu
- Wing transceiver: set of 3 beacons that are deployable and show up as lock-on-able points for wing members
- Hull reinforcement
- Shield cell banks

•Extra
- Being able to multi-crew on planets would greatly enhance SRV gameplay and the multi-crew feature
- Engineering your SRV modules
- maybe the ability to launch your SRV in space while not in supercruise or orbital cruise

All excellent ideas! Good job bumping the thread (on this occasion) or I would have missed it. Repped.
 
I agree! I have spent time with them on the surface and find them boring at this point. I would like to see what this thread says, and also different type. For example maybe something slower, bigger but can carry more cargo. Also currently really there needs to be surface mining, besides for harvesting meta alloys.

Also speaking of mining, the world of ED is kind of out of balance..Seeing that if you did add surface mining, most players I think would consider it a novelty considering there is way quicker ways to make credits. But I think a heavier slower yet high cargo cap SRV would still be pretty useful for harvesting crash sites or barnacles
 
I'm sure in old elite you would put mining machines on planets and leave, then come back and collect what your miner or collector has gathered.
you could also get there and its been destroyed.

now with horizons, I can imagine some sort of pleasure finding somebody else's collector, and taking the contents... or blowing it up...

lots of fun to be had.
and we need to be able to engineer the srv.... cargo for speed and fuel consumption

or introduce larger srvs, which will only fit in a large (currently 2 capacity) hanger. instead of fitting 2 small srvs, you can only carry 1 large etc.

Im really hoping we get this and gameplay to suit it.
It would make for some fun co-op too, yes indeedy.
 
Wow was looking through the thread graveyard and found this gem, Op is fantastic would be amazing to see all this put in. One thing though, for the mining one if you were referring towards passively having mining rigs deployed I don’t think it should be that but a drill that’s in the srv that you can lower and raise, unless this is what you meant.

I've been itching for SRV tuning for some time now; I like where this thread is going with it. Hell, I'd be happy with some adjustable suspension or tires so our buggies don't take 2% hull damage and flip over upon hitting a small, perfectly rounded rock, but I'll take a good dose of these suggestions too! I'd even be perfectly willing to have my vehicle hangar take up a bigger slot for more robust/multiple SRV's. All the UI/HUD elements and mechanics are in place for it already, soooooooo why don't we HAVE IT yet?

Oh, sudden idea, more for the vehicle hangar than the SRV itself: WHY DON'T WE JUST HAVE A BOARDING RAMP?? The SRV exits facing the rear of the vehicle anyway, so we know there's room for it! It'd be a far sight more intuitive and fun than all this perfect placement, hit 3, scroll down several places in the menu and hit "board ship" nonsense...

Geez I mean at LEAST put the boarding option as the FIRST option in the damn menu...
 
Or instead of tires, could we have anti-gravity pods, like skimmers?
I'd love to race over the planet with one of those, without getting a 720 degree spin every time I hit a rock at 20 mph.
