Horizons SRV Handling? Any tips?

Hi, Horizons is amazing but I'm having really issues with the SRV handling. Its extremely twitchy. At speed small left and right turns give sudden 90 degree switch of the vehicle, making it really horrible to control. Is there any way of dampening the effect? The vehicles in the trailers are all blasting around having fun and I'm having to battle continuously against the controls. I get that the surface isn't flat, but surely we can have a dampened effect to make this all a bit more..... dare I say it 'Fun' and engaging.

Thanks, keep up the good work Frontier. It all looks amazing. :)

Best tips I can give: 1) Make sure assist is turn on particularly on low G worlds. Gravity makes a huge difference in handling so always pay attention to to your readings. Use assist ubtil you get more familiar with the handling. It's cool cause we all "started over" in a way in terms of skills in using a new vehicle. 2) Don't drive full blast unless you are either on very flat ground or are testing your ability to land safely after launching off the ground (a very good skill to practice). No matter what, always try to keep the wheels parallel to the ground even when base jumping down a 7km crater O_O 3) Have fun with it! The more you try to get it down, the more skiller you become and it eventually is a lot of fun. Took me a littlw time but now I feel like an SRV pro. Even on very rough terrain, I may only take 1%-2% damage before I need to refuel. 4) Utilize the handbrake. Make sure it is bound to something you can reach quickly. If you start to slide, pull the brake to stop quickly then start your run again. (I remembered that after I typed have fun though I guess the order doesn't matter). Lol. :)

I wasn't in Beta, so there will be many with more experience than me, but the main thing I've found is to stay away from full thottle unless you are on completely flat ground and only want to go in a straight line. I find that if I keep my speed around 15-20 (is it m/s?) then it controls well, and still 'feels' fast.

yeah i noticed its default turned off which was weird as default for ships is on. If you have a Hortas with rockers on the throttle consider using them for steering so keeps 1 hand free for mouse or keyboard shenanigans.

I have pretty big deadzones set on my throttle and steering (Using a joystick). Makes a huge difference!
Make sure you adjust the Driving controls near the bottom of the options page, not the flight controls.

Be sure, if using controllers, that you set up your contoller as 'digital' or 'analog' properly. (The difference is between choosing a button and choosing an axis)

I do not know how to drive the SRV without a throttle...if you have a throttle, set it to 'forward only' with a button set to hold for reverse. The full range throttle is problematic because if you do not stop fully moving in reverse, rather than going forward when you switch, your throttle will increase your speed in reverse.

As with all bindings...change one item...test the result to be sure you are getting what you expect, then fix the next problem.

Finally, no pips in engines removes the ability to use thrusters...so, if your thrusters aren't working check your pips...if you want them to stop, remove all pips.

After reading reports from people trying beta, i was really worried about SRV handling, but i was really surprised, when i tried it today by myself. It took me maybe 10 minutes to get used to it.

My only tip would be, dont go full throtle all the the time and you will be fine.

What is the max speed 40m/s? Thats something over 140 km/h, just imagine what it will do to your car when you try to do fast turning at those speeds.

Some great advice there fellas, many thanks. I'll give all that stuff a go. :) Maybe I was unlucky to land on a low gravity world. Something I will pay far more attention to in future. :)

assist off for me.. all the time. Boosting over the terrain is always faster than driving on it and a smoother ride... just time it right and you can land on downslopes, pick up speed for the next jump

That's what I do. Also handy if you want to drive and use your turret at the same time.

I also found out that using just keyboard for control and mouse for head look is what I was looking for, HOTAS controls just wasn't for me, give those a try maybe you will feel better with them.
