SRV Micro Stuttering

Ideally, for the smoothest possible frame times, a game should run neither in CPU nor in GPU limit. In CPU limit the frame time variance can rise. In GPU limit already prepared frames by the CPU are waiting in the buffer for the GPU to be processed, leading to increased input lag. Therefore you'd want to limit the FPS via in-game or driver limiter so that no component is creating a bottleneck, at a maximum of 2-3 FPS below the maximum refresh rate of your VRR display and 0-1 FPS below for fixed refresh rate displays (with V-Sync).
Apart from that, especially RGB control software is known for causing stuttering.
Thank you B1rdy. I am running rivatuner at 0.01 below half refresh rate. That is the best i can get it.

Just one last thing and i don't know if i'm going crazy but i'll throw this out there just in case it is relevant as i don't know anything about coding (not saying it's elite as many others would have the same issue).
I left the game with my SRV out on the surface did some messing with the pc to see if i could fix it, along with a windows update today. i returned to the game and drove the SRV about and did not get one stutter. I thought, great it's fixed or am i speaking too soon again. So i docked the SRV back in the ship and exited again and yep stutters back.
Thinking i was going crazy i left the SRV on the surface and exited the game back to desktop. Loaded the game again, drove the already on the surface SRV around and no stutters. I did this for a number of minuets and docked back into the ship. Exited again and stutters immediately returned.
Saying that i am sure some hardware is not working as it should in my pc but the stutters are much less than at the beginning and although annoying the game is at least playable.

Thank you one and all for you help and advise. 07

Same EXACT thing has been happening to me as well, It's most definitely not a hardware problem. I'm thinking it's a bad Microsoft update, because I managed to fix it by reinstalling Windows; updated it recently and the issue is back. I'll see if I can rollback and if that does anything. Either way, opening an issue tracker ticket couldn't hurt.

Sorry to read you are having the same issue and i hope you manage to resolve it.

Now we know you are CPU-limited like that it would be worth turning down shadow quality just in case that fixes it straight away. (Shadows are evil on CPU and almost no GPU footprint whereas most other things you are affecting both. )

Or, turn up anti-aliasing to ridiculous levels to try and get it to go GPU limited which might leave it more balanced overall.
Thank you Markov. Very rude of me not to reply to your helpful advise.
When the stuttering started after replacing my failed ssd, i had as before the failure, shadows on minimum, along with bloom off, blur off, depth of field off, ambient occlusion off.

Well, i have updated my nvidia driver to the latest driver and the game update today and drove the SRV around collecting materials on a rocky geological rich surface for around 45 minutes and no micro stutters. I didn't want to speak too soon again so i tested for a long time collecting materials and the stutters have gone! I have my beloved game back!
I don't know who to thank as i updated my graphic card driver and the game at the same time but to whom is responsible for fixing the stutters, I want to thank you very much indeed! I, as always, appreciate your skilled and hard work.

Edit: The update notes don't mention micro stutters so i will presume it is nvidia.

For me it was 100% software. Sorted out ReBAR, HAGS and installed Win11 over the top of Win10. Been smooth as silk since.

maybe you're right. I installed win11 on new system too and I've read it's better handling 64bit systems, all of them: ram, vram, cpu, hdds, ssds, everything :D I take my words back, when near settlements and game spawning actors- there are almost unseen stutters. So it's definitely engine's problem.

I had similar problem with stuttering during SRV drive - fps drop was each 5-10 seconds (frametime graph attached)
Not related to graphic settings or video drivers, but surpisingly to m.2 drive (samsung 970 pro / 512gb) and fixed by moving game files to sata ssd - no more stuttering and almost plain line on frametime graph

Gonna check what I could do with m.2 drive...

UPDATE:
no firmware update available for my drive
but just installed Samsung NVME driver instead of Microsoft one and problem gone (returned game back to m.2 and re-tested twice - before driver switch and after)
I came back to Elite after some time and I have same exact problem. Every 5 secs in SRV huge stuttering appears for about 2 secs. I have game installed on Intel SSD NVMe, I moved game to sata SSD, didn't help. I installed firmware on my nvme SSD, still stuttering

My specs are: Ryzen 7 7800x3d, RTX 4070 and 32 GB DDR5. My game runs in 200+ fps on surface, but somehow still get stutters and unfortunately it's a gamebreaker for me. :(

I think SRV bad performance started with Odyssey expansion and it's still there after all these years...

I have Ryzen 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5, RTX 4070ti super, have mine running at 144fps everywhere, no stutter at all in SRV, been running Odyssey since the day it released, even on my previous system, a laptop with the 2070, and no stutter in SRV, so I can't see it as being a game bug but something system related.

Are you on Windows 10 or Windows 11? Stutter is often caused by contention and there are significant (good) differences to the graphics kernel in Windows 11 designed to reduce contention.

Do you have HAGS and re-bar enabled per this extremely useful forum thread?

Strange stutters that only appear in one game are a fairly common scenario. Different games exercise the system in different ways. You have something causing a stutter which ED steps on and other games don't; fine. I have something causing stutters in iRacing now whilst ED is still fine, but on other versions of both games it's been the other way around in previous years.

What you need to do is track down what is unique to your system so you can either eliminate it yourself or make a useful report to developers.

Laptop was win 10, no problems though of course I didn't get 144fps on that, more like 80 fps, new PC is Win 11, no problems on either.
