Horizons SRV Turret Behaviour.

Hi,

I am having a lot of difficulty with my turret gun alignment when shooting.

Having the turret gun bound to my joystick leaves a big deadzone and the same when using a hat key.

The joystick, X52 Pro has no deadzones set and when flying or driving the SRV the response is very quick as you would expect.

Has anyone else noticed this problem as it makes shooting almost impossible from the turret.?

It never used to be this way!

Is there a cure??

I had exactly that issue. My son recommended binding the turret to my mouse, and I have full control with no dead zone now. The process was a little bizarre, in that I had to use the mouse wheel to assign pitch & yaw to mouse movement, but after a few fumbles I got it working. The drawback is I still have to fire the weps or scanner with my joystick as I cannot assign that a turret-only fire button, I have to use what is set globally for the SRV.

Hi Chipstar65,

Ah, it's not just me then.

I'll raise a support ticket regarding the issue asit is a recent problem.

Using the mouse is a good idea but inconvenient as I have my joystick on a board on my lap so having to reach over to get the mouse on my desk makes life difficult.:(

Hi Chipstar65,

A further update.

I have solved the problem by setting the turret Yaw Axus (turret left and right) to be the jostick twist and the Pitch Axis (turret up and down) to be the joystick backwards and forwards.

The deadzone problem is now gone.:D

In the controls menu try having Yaw with a little icon of a stick with arrows pointing down on the left and right and for pitch, the arrow is on the right side of the icon showing vertically up and down.

The control in both cases is regular, not inverted.

If that does not solve the issue pm me and I'll try and help.

I set it up to use my mouse (no wheel) for the turret. Pitch, Yaw, L, R no problem. Also left mouse is the scan, right mouse the target lock and the space bar is the fire button. Similar to world of tanks. I use the WSAD buttons for forward, back, left, right. When turret is not up I have the joystick for the steering with or without the WSAD, with the W and S still being forward and backward. It works well at least for me.

@Arnak -- I tried again, but my joystick ends up with a full-on deadzone I can't seem to eliminate. In the bindings set-up I can't adjust the deadzone slider at all for some reason. So with joysticking, I get only full-on, full-off behavior. Any tips for resolving this would be appreciated.

All axes have massive dead zones if you don't bind them to the main axis. The list in the keybindings says something like "Yaw Axis, then underneath is "Yaw left", then "yaw right". If you bind to the left and right ones, you get the dead zones, as they work like digital switches. You must bind to the "yaw axis" to get analogue control. It's the same with flight controls, like pitch, roll, throttle, etc.

Thanks, d8veh, that clarifies a lot. Will try that next time out.

Can you also point me to an explanation of Camera Suite? My principal problem right now is losing control of the SRV or my Cobra when in CS/FreeCamera, but no other situation seems to allow for camera adjustments. If I regain control of my vehicle, I cannot move the camera. Very frustrating.

EDIT: Got my turret in my joystick now, thanks again, d8veh.

Hi Chipstar65,

You are correct, the deadzone slider is not used.

d8veh is correct, you must bind the joystick to the main axis only, that is the "yaw axis".

Try that and see if you get a better result.

@d8veh -- I understand completely, I managed to get a few shots in spite of the madness, but it seems a terrible implementation at the moment. Too bad because some of the planetary shots are epic.

@Arnak -- got it covered, amigo, thanks.
