Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It's just occurred to me that, with space whales definitely coming, they really should release a whaling ship.

(It could have harpoons and everything. Marketing team are slacking IMO.)
The ship has the blubber boiler and the skinning and flaying, flensing knifes. It's a hellish job and I recommend the Moby classic* - a lot of it is old-skool drivel and trite but the whaling decription is quite good. Whale catching is done with the row boats, but I wouldn't be surprised if CIG got it completely wrong and made whale hunting some safe procedure by pressing w+m1.

*Literature classic title got censored. My slow applause here.

Amazing. Just checked in on Boredgamer, he was asked by chat when he expects SQ42.

"Realistically", he says, announced next years con and released the year after? (extreme doubt in his voice)

Then says they could of course have released it around 2015, but oooh the scope increased, etc, they could have released it 2 years after in 2017 if they hadn't added to it.

He's so close. It's always 2 years bud, it's always going to be 2 more years.

They should hand all that over to Turbulent...with all the ex Ubisoft employees there, I'm sure we could have the Black Flag parcours style sidequests of leaping over the rooftops of Orison collecting sea shanties

Black Flag? Still my favourite ever Assassin's Creed...

The bay at the back of our farm used to be one of the busiest whaling stations in Europe...slightly off topic of course. The main reason I mention it is that the stones high up the beach are still stained dark by the blood of the thousands of whales that were dragged up the beach and 'processed' to extract the blubber and whale oil...a poignant reminder of when the decimation of an entire species was justified by man's need to have artificial light and vanity products like soap.

But the scope of SQ42 has never officially been increased.

As an aside and drifting further off topic...we've had a spate of headless seal carcasses' washed up on the beach over the last few weeks. Nothing man manufactured or sinister of course, just our local population of Orca fattening themselves over winter. Once they're relatively full of seal...they tend to just eat the seal's heads and leave the rest of the carcass for the seabirds and crabs.

Whilst out for a wander down the beach today in between storms, I came across a family pod of Orca playing with a live seal just 20 yards off the beach...flipping it up in the air with their tails then breaching and turning somersaults in their play. They were so close, I could smell their meaty, fishy breath as they sounded through their blowholes. It's not the closest I've ever been to Orca, they pop into the harbour regularly during winter or spring where they're only a few feet away from the jetty and car park as shown in the pics below snapped on my phone a year or so ago.

Even as awesome a spectacle as this chance encounter was, I couldn't bring myself to record it on my phone, I pulled the phone out of my jacket pocket instinctively...then put it back. Not due to any uniquely human perceived cruelty of the scene by any means...it's just nature doing what it does. I just felt that recording it would have somehow diluted the experience and made me feel like an intruder rather than a lucky spectator. Instead, I just sat on the deserted, windswept beach all on my own and watched until the Orca got bored with their sport and moved further offshore taking the now dead seal with them. It's one of life's experiences I feel truly privileged to have witnessed first hand.

I got on all stoked as I was talking to a dude in area 18 getting ready to meet up. They were very nice as they invited me into their Carrack. I asked him “can we do bunkers missions” and he agreed. We went to buy stuff and pick up some people, then we went for bunkers and I wanted to explore their ship. I got in one of the turrets but I got stuck. I tried to get out but nothing would budge, I tried the buttons, I tried the keys and even tried to backspace, nothing worked so I had to Alt F4. Then my friend had to leave so no bunkers and 12 hours wasted.
It took 12 hours ( 6 hours plus another 6 hours ) to do very little the first day, there was an asinine amount of 30k errors In between.

At least 3.18 is coming ¯\(ツ)/¯
