Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

None. At this point it's looking like it's going to be RUST in space. Non combat ships and players are meant to be loot pinatas and content for murder hobos.
It's been looking like that since the beginning. It does go through phases as the murder hobos get bored occasionally, go back to Eve online or find other things to play... but if anything, it's steadily getting worse as Ci~G continue to turn the PU into an extremely poor and increasingly unbalanced arcade space shooter.

If you end up getting shot at, pad rammed or just happen to be in the game when the server population leans toward more griefers than actual players, there's not a lot you can do about it except suck it up and go back to square one collecting all the stuff you just lost.

On the rare occasion I actually do log in these days, I spend half an hour or so watching the global chat before even calling a ship...if there's skullduggery abounding, I either try to switch regions or change servers... or simply give up for the day and go play some proper games 🤷‍♂️

Which reminds me...I'll have to log in to rebind my hotas controls again since I've changed both throttle and stick from the X56 to Warthog throttle and VKB stick since I last logged in

Hurston security to the rescue!

'PSA - do not surrender to security. There's a chance you won't be able to play again on that account'

I had an issue today where I got scanned and since there were bodies on my ship that had a crime stat I was arrested even though my crime stat was 0.

When I surrendered I went to prison but never woke up. Just sat there with a black screen. I waited for some time but nothing loaded so I hit escape to exit the game.

When I reloaded the game it crashed when loading the menu. This is not fixable. If you get this issue you can not fix it nor play the game. Some people have been waiting weeks and still can't play as it seems to be a server side issue. CIG has listed this as fixed in the next patch but it's not in the current patch and many people are reporting this issue and still can't play after weeks.

I'm not sure why this isn't mentioned anywhere official as it's pretty brutal so I'm making this PSA to help spread the word: do not surrender to security ever.

Tell ya friends, hide yo wife, they glitching people all up in this place.

Can't get griefed if your account is bricked ;)

As usual, CIG need to learn the lessons that have been learned time and again by developers over the decades.

They don't care a jot. As long as the money keeps rolling in there's no chance of any of us long termers ever getting the game that most of us signed up for... like 20 years ago or whenever it was. The ever increasing numbers of $50 peasants and casuals seem to like the pointless pew, so that's how it'll stay. The PU is now just Fortnite with the occasional spaceship for a bit of variety in the pew.

For me personally, The Last of Us part 2 is getting a PS5 makeover on the 19th of this month (upgrade from PS4 to PS5 version is $10 on the day)...which normally signals a PC release of the game on Steam and Epic around 6 months later, purely going by TLoU part one being re-mastered for the PS5 late 2022 then being released on PC a few months later...so I'll be playing that on PS5 (and PC) all over again when it arrives :)

For those wondering (like me) what 'The Experience' was that Space Tomato had griefer issues on - more here:

(first reply was very correct it seems :) )

Edit: Oh boy - you have to buy tickets? I guess at least they're only charging in-game money, for now 😈

So, a streamer whale event that, on its alpha test run, caught a torpedo (or rammer, Reddit was unclear on that) because someone snuck aboard through the 890's unguarded backdoor and the organizers hired their escort from Screenshot Security.

"The price for one ticket to an adventure onboard The Experience is 400,000 aUEC. The price for the V.I.P. Tour is 25 million aUEC."
Ah well, at least they don't ask for "pledges".

I found one comment on Reddit enlightening that large org events "population-lock" the server, i.e. fill all the 100 slots with their members. That's a convoluted way of saying "private group".

But why would they want to do that? Don't they want the full Star Citizen experience, with a revolutionary crime and punishment system devised by Genuine Roberts? Surely they are just locking themselves out from the best parts of the game by ensuring nobody can attack them!

Meh, they probably don't understand game development.

I always feel a little sick when someone mentions crime and PUNISHMENT while referring to game design

That’s why it’s a bad idea to rely on the same mechanism for NPCs and PCs. Good criminal gameplay should encourage evading punishment, while not being so severe as to deter it. On the flip side, a good PvP C&P system should deter player-killing, while still encouraging organic symmetrical PvP.

Which probably explains why a mixed PvE/PvP environment remains the Holy Grail of game design: frequently sought by many but never ever found. Far better game developers have tried and failed. Chris Roberts, on the other hand…

A PvP doesnt punish PvP - it encourages it. A coop game doesnt need either because there is no PvP.
And a game that doesnt know what it is doesnt find salvation by punishing gaming activities.

I just wanted to make a Dostoevsky joke ;)

But yep you're right. Attempts to make a 'society' of game styles normally just end up with a burning village... (Where the mayor is the village idiot ;))
