Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Hard to quantify.

Client frames have improved in recent years on the whole. (Outside of some key locations, like the new surface bases, due to a depreciated in-house tool).

But server performance has stayed bad and arguably got worse in new and exciting ways recently (leaving the game FPS as somewhat moot).

And if you try and play in the large Xeno event, both are bad ;)

SC has a habit of eating its own gains ;)
Probably got something to do with them trying to shoehorn all that missing core functionality in to 11 years of franken spaghetti code!! :)

Imagine all these rounding errors from sloppy 32 bit translation and all the trash items that never get properly cleaned up because noone properly thought it through.

No need to imagine, they have been made real ;)

Have now completed 3 missions. At the end I had an awesome encounter with my instance. It disintegrated and I was virtually decoupled from the game world together with the instance. I was able to fly through planets. Moons flew away from me - when I flew to Wala or Lyria, for example - when I arrived, the celestial body flew away from me or towards me. scary 👻  - In the end, the hangar doors didn't open again and others didn't get any ships.

Etrip report...

1) Collect Tungsten from Everest Harbor; deliver to Farnesway (which changed to Lorville halfway the mission).
I went to EH you need to be in a hangar as the pads don't have freight elevators. In the hangar I had to retrieve the commodities from the freight elevator. Loaded the 10SCU. Returning to Lorville I got the mission "Leaving the area will forfeit the cargo" (similar to a Hull C leaving when not yet loaded). I landed in the small hangar; turned off engines and waited for a minute to prevent being warped towards the planet core. Then I used the TB to offload. After the first SCU I was kicked out of the hangar that was assigned to me, my ship was impounded and I got a crime stat because of trespassing.

2) Collect Tungsten from Everest Harbor; deliver to Sakura Sun Magnolia.
Upon landing in the hangar my ship was impounded and I was stuck in limbo (the ship was gone but I wasn't teleported to the station). I couldn't move and had to relog. My Nomad got a fine but was in an unknown location so I had to respawn it to the hangar. This time the unclaimed cargo message appeared when I spawned my ship. I put my Nomad close to the freight elevator and this may have broken the mission as it disappeared.

Yeah, going good...

if you have managed to catch a working elevator, then elevator hangers don't work. if you have also managed to catch a working elevator hanger, then the hanger gates don't open. runs as usual

There are issues again with ships falling through hangar floors. Updated Multiple IC's (some are duplicates) with info. Specifically, trying to do a cargo mission between Orison and Seraphim was impossible because of the hangar floors at Seraphim.

Performance dropped to single digits when I have cargo on the cargo elevator, and I get into a vehicle. Something wonky with the way the cargo was renderring, almost like everything in the cargo box was all renderring, it was a blur of yellow

There's something deeply ironic about that way that SC is going for a hangar system where all the 'physicalised' hangars are in the same location (so that you can hear what is happening in other hangars, and have a queue to get out of your hangar because they all share the same exit), meanwhile the less immersive, more game-y ED has actual physical hangars where you have to wait at outposts for a landing pad to be available.

Really?
I see you guys talk about bugs, but I figure overall performance should be better?
No, that's just being uninformed.

Performance got better especially after DLSS was implemented. We're talking client Performance here, purely for frames per second.
Server Performance is still hit and miss as it used to be.

If this is true, how is this FIDELITY? I remember CIG braggin about some station being way big but they could only put in one hanagar? Makes me think of quest givers in MMORPGs.

Thanks, I should ask more questions.

Queued up for Q3...

Instanced hangars

[...]
  • A waiting time of 200 - 1,000 seconds before you can actually leave your hangar is not acceptable.
  • Multiple hangars can be assigned to one user - at one point I had a small, medium and large one. This limits the hangars available for other players.
  • At Lorville the ground 'grew' into the hangar when I landed and then Hurston ate my Freelancer Max.
  • I landed at Pinewood and waited for a minute to allow the game to catch up. Then I turned off engines and left the pilot seat - my Caterpillar was eaten by Hurston. I managed to fly out of the planet, landed again and this time I let the engines running while landing. This was fine until five minutes later my ship was eaten again and I was sucked out the ship and went into free fall to the planet's core.

Hauling mission
- Throughout the session there was a permanent overlay on screen that if I were to leave the area I would forfeit the cargo. This was a fossil from yesterday's hauling mission that I couldn't complete because my ship fell through the hangar floor towards the centre of Hurston.

Hammerhead
- The HH does not spawn correctly at space station - it will show spawned at large hangar but it does not appear. Later you find it's stuck on the bottom of the elevator glitching through the floor.

Hull C
- It was not possible to spawn the Hull C (similar to the HH).

Vulture
+ Livery works correctly again.
- I couldn't get it out of the hangar because the hangar doors refused to open. Later I got the "you are now 10th in the queue message" with a 1,000 seconds waiting time.
