Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Car buyer: Hey! I bought this car and when you delivered it to me the car is missing the steering wheel, the electric system and the gear box. This is a scam!
Sadly cars are starting to offer similar vapourware to CiG. You can buy 'Enhanced Autopilot' and 'Full Self-Drive Capability' for your Tesla, but better read the fine print ...

The currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous. Some features require turn signals and are limited in range. The activation and use of these features are dependent on achieving reliability far in excess of human drivers as demonstrated by billions of miles of experience, as well as regulatory approval, which may take longer in some jurisdictions. As these self-driving features evolve, your car will be continuously upgraded through over-the-air software updates. Please read the Owner’s Manual for further information.

"Absolutely. Well, if you assume 1.0 is the end of development. Which no rational person would think."
Wasn't Star Citizen sold on the promise that it was a one and done, no day one patch and unfinished MVP?
Things change, and plans change, but they sure do change a lot at CIG.

"When you say "if things don't go well" do you mean the funding stops? Because they obviously wouldn't continue developing the game without money."
And Chris Roberts said at least once or twice they hadenough money to finish the game.

Edit:
"And the original 100 Starsystem had a total of 90 planetary landing zones, that you landed via cinematic."
Like Starfield? Hmmm, citizens really have a tendency of talking down other games but ignores Star Citizen fails to do better.

Between 2014 and even as late as 2017 you'd hear the refrain for the faithful "At least SC will release as a finished quality product and not as an unfinished buggy product like a certain other space game" (meaning ED).

Over time that refrain would stop being used as even the faithful started to realize they were not getting a finished product that was anything but stable.

And yeah, funny how they said that the cinematic limited landing zones was going to be part of the BDSSE which, at the time, they said was going to be amazing. Now what do they have? Planets dotted with procgen stations that all look pretty much the same. So basically the same as ED and Starfield.

So...no different from my comparatively cheap Land Rover then? It's got autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, park assist, cornering assist, advanced trailer assist, automatic terrain control assist, driver fatigue sensing...lots more...it's even got a fridge in the center cubby box between the front seats big enough for a 2L carton of milk and a few sandwiches... It also self updates the software via a live internet connection, either with the onboard data sim card or via wifi.

The majority of the driver aids, like the park assist are also hands free in case I suddenly find a use for both my hands instead of steering.

It's nice that they're there and all that, thankfully, besides the safety related features like autonomous braking, most are selectable and optional...but as idiot proof driving aids go, I've never found a real use for any of them. 🤷‍♂️

Do citizens still praise the fidelity anymore?
Berks captured a wurmie. Wonder if you'll be able to capture the full size one in a cap ship?

The worm doesn't have a body and isn't affected by momentum or air resistance, how did it e en pass Chris Roberts' quality control?

Welcome to boom season...

Collision Physics Update
Ship Collision damage handling is now done using full collision data passed down by physics. This means mass and speed is now fully calculated in the collision and will make collision damage between all ships, big and small, behave more realistically.

Im sorry. Is there such a thing as a cheap land rover?

Or is this a relative thing?
Not any more...but yes, relatively speaking...they're not quite in the Tesla wondercar price bracket. Certainly not mine...it's 8 years old and second hand :D

There's a Ci~G/Tesla analogy here though...

The point I kinda failed to make was that the Musk dude is a bit like Ci~G and reinventing the wheel the long way around...all of this supposedly 'new' and fantabulous autonomous technology he's trying to flog in his wondercars already existed...even in my 8 year old second hand Disco. Unlike his wondercars though, Land Rovers aren't generally known for randomly bursting into flames in the car park at Tesco and all of the fancy tech works just dandy ;)
