Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I would say some people lose interest in single player games after a single playthrough, but it's not the norm...like most gamers with an attention span longer than a wasp, 99% of the games I keep coming back to time after time and year after year are single player...especially on PS5 or PC. It usually depends on the story telling or the size/type of sandbox you get to play in. Outside of mobile phone games, single player epics still sell better than multiplayer games on every medium out there...it's practically a prerequisite for 'Game of the year'.

From the Witcher 3 or RDR 1&2 on Xbox and PC to The Last of Us or Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4/PS5 and PC, I've never once uninstalled them. Those are just a couple from a really long list of games I play regularly and often... 🤷‍♂️

Somehow though...call it a hunch...I don't ever see the interactive movie of Sqn 404 becoming one of those. ;)
I used too hop from new game to new game, but in the last 5 or so years I have largely settled on a selection of "classics" I keep revisiting. Rimworld is likely the #1 game of the last decade for me. CP2077 made it into the selection over time. For some reason I keep playing Portal 2 over winter holidays, just like we used to have Die Hard movies on the TV at Xmas. Yeah and horror movies - so Alien Isolation is up there too for XMas.
RDR2 - ya, that's one great game of all time.
A game to really hate

God they made so great characters. Never liked Western genre tho - imo it's the Tuco of all movie genres. But the gems outshine that flaw...

Hi All :)

I'm on my way to Colonia this morning (y), and while I'm waiting for my carrier to jump to the next system I was idly browsing the Frontier Forums (as you do).
So...I'm quite out of touch with the progress of Star Citizen I'm embarrassed to say.
Question...Is there any danger of Squadron 42 being released as a finished game this year?
Must admit. I'd lost interest in this game way back, I've more or less given up hope and accepted that the money I'd given to the kickstarter is written off! 😬
Hooray for Elite! :D

Jack :)
Finished? Unlikely. Released? My personal take is that they're struggling and clutching at straws.

A slight slight in the comments...

As a slight insider to the industry I can tell you they can't keep talent because the industry as a whole has zero respect for cig and any work done there, if you want an actual career the longer you spend at this studio the worse it looks for you.

We're getting the measure of instancing...

  • As we were going down the staircase, I was teleported to a different instance, exactly above my team mate, 7.5Mm above.
  • His marker remained on for a while then disappeared, but that told me where the instance boundary is. As I was trying to figure out what just happened, I decided to walk backup in the hopes of going back where we started.
  • This puts me into another instance, for a glimpse I saw another player waiting for the tram on the platform.
  • Shortly following after, the collision on the instance disappeared and I fell through the sky, same for my teammate.

It seems the mission-giver instance is also a transporting experience...

Haven’t tried soo, but did try recco during wave 1. First attempt I walked through the green lights straight into floating in space outside the station. Second attempt I got into the lobby and watched the not yet ready message for 20 minutes before logging. Third time I ran through the green lights back into space.

Gave up. Never saw recco. She’s a very busy lady.

I made a new freefly account. I had to reinstall/uninstall to get out of a character editor loop but it worked in the end.

Server population: 161.
Server FPS: 3.
I'll have a look around and see what works. Can't be that bad, can it?

Ouchhh.

Yeah I started seeing >100 server counts finally with 4.8.3, and more with 4.9. (With correspondingly poopy server tick ;))

I'm pretty convinced now that they haven't been running a lowered soft cap in the last 5 months. The <100 numbers must just have been due to lowered player count.

The delays for ship doors to open can be long but I operated two freight elevators and transported 6 boxes from station to planet. That worked. 👍 Only my first multitool dropped through the floor when I tried to attach the tractor thingy. The second one stayed with me.

The NPCs inside the stations stutter and teleport around quite badly, though. That must be the combined effect of free fly and PTU.

Downloading the PTU now to see how the instances work.

A Snr Level Designer bounced after 9m back in June. Looks to have been SQ42 focused...

Maybe it's a confirmation-bias thing with all the regular staff-change updates we've seen over these recent years, but I get the feeling that "average time working for CIG" is reducing? As in newer hires aren't staying for as long as the earlier hires were? Not sure if that's easily checked.
