Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It was supposed to be 100 systems at launch.
And then more added, as the pipelines would be fully functional.
Thousands? Don't think so, but may very well be wrong in this.
Originally it was more like 40 or 60 systems they hoped to build; but they added systems via stretch goals after they hit the crowd-funding targets initially set. They have removed or made it hard to find old documents which weren't stored on Kickstarter (some links there just get a 404 error on RSI site now). The 100 system count was reached at $6 MUSD in funding. That Kickstarter page including the FAQs is something else to go back and review after 8 years!

"Chris Roberts and his teams have shown consistently that they are able to develop epic story-based games. Even with our very limited self-funding we have been able to do already a lot of work which is why we can show you not just concept art and a cinematic trailer, but an extensive demo of actual game play. [note that would be the result of a claimed year of work already put into technical development and POC.] So, we are confident that even with limited means we will be able to deliver an amazing experience."

That statement and demo and others made it seem so feasible to deliver in two years, right?! After all they got the physics and a bunch of stuff already working!

The one thing I like about the SC project and that seems to have worked reliably since release some years ago, is the web-based star map.

FD need to get the ED Orrey up to par and put one in-cockpit. Fingers crossed that will be a bonus coming with Odyssey, but I'm not holding my breath.

From TheAgent on the SA forums:
  • work from home has been a "huge hurdle" to overcome, per half a dozen different people
  • problems with security and remote access to work stations continue to be an issue
  • "There's days when (VPN/servers) are down two, three, four hours."
  • some feel the initial response to CV19 was poor due to crunch-like mentality
  • "You come in. You're sick, it's what you do, not a big deal."
  • "People were still coming in to work, sick, or knowing someone that was ill."
  • some communication from upper management/executives now almost non-existent
  • guidance on tasks and workflow left up to non-management, depending on department
  • several German/UK employees have left to positions elsewhere, outside of gaming
  • Turbulent helping with Theaters of War/SQ42, additional coding help with SC in-game events and cinematics
  • new investor buy in Q2 this year, NOT Calders supposedly
  • "Nothing runs like we have all this money."
  • Invictus Launch Week was supposed to coincide with the release of Theaters of War and 4.0
  • variables that determine new flight mechanics have to be adjusted on a per ship basis
  • "We are moving away from that system in the near future, thankfully."
  • Yet another next-gen console rumor: "Expect the announcement for multiple platforms." (this is the Nth loving time I've heard this lol)
  • quarterly updates to investors re: SQ42 have stalled, last update was early Q1
  • these are supposed to include gameplay, cutscene and progress updates for the 2020 launch
  • "soft-launch" or SQ42 prelude contains three to four hours of linear gameplay with an additional two hours of cutscenes, with some repeatable content across "open-world" planets
  • this was meant to test the console waters at a lower price point ($39.99) with additional chapters and the full game offered at a discount after the first buy-in (when released)
  • target is one million sold in first 48 hours, additional four million sold within 30 days, digital sales only

Players frequently cannot board transit or elevators because of collision blocking entry. (If this occurs it will require exiting the server and rejoining to fix)

If only they hadn't spent the last few years insisting these elements were essential to an immersive 'Verse :D

I suspect those console rumours are probably trolling. Given the state SC is 8+ years in I would be surprised it can be ready anywhere near some of the infamous console quality control tests requirements.

Those requirements seem to be relaxed a lot when there is the potential for money and devs get around the stricter requirements by slapping an "Early Access" label on it, or in CIG's case, alpha.

Fortnite was infamously buggy on consoles with some real abysmal performance problems and numerous game breaking bugs, yet still managed to get certified by keeping it in "Early Access" for years. AFAIK, its still listed as early access.

But... but... isn't Christ Roberts the savior of PC gaming (only)?

History can always be revised as needed. Only the future is certain. The past is always in flux.

Anyway, very interested about this potential new investor. I guess we will find out in 6 months or so when CIG decide to actually inform backers about it. Probably after a big sale like citizencon.

Ok I 'fess up. It was me. I paid $200M for 10% of the company because they told me it was valued at over $2 Billion now. But I bargained hard... got them to throw in a Litigious Gold pack (apparently an add-on to their Legatus pack), AND I co-star in Sandi's long awaited trilogy-ending blockbuster, "Return of the Sandwurmies".

Look, just because the entire building the cinema is housed in cringes and cracks at the seams when confronted with her acting, doesn't mean it's a blockbuster. As such.

Why save only one group of people when you can save the whole human race?

"Breaking news: both WHO and NASA, who licensed Star Citizen private servers along with the Engineering Manual for Modders extra, just got their responses from the Subsumption AI powered NPCs that were hired in game. The first one just found a cure for COVID-19, the other came with the answer: 'what is 42 anyway?'. Humanity is saved!"
