Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Some advice in reply:

"Honestly, take some time for yourself.
Let water run under the bridges.
If the game is to collapse, it will collapse. If it is to see the light of day, it will see the light of day.
The next deadline is mid-2021 with BOTH i-cache and server meshing. We add a good 6 months (at least) of delay, basically we will not be able to assess the outcome of the dev until Christmas 2021."

Christmas 2021, You heard it here first! The message is working, kick that can down the road :)

Or it could be later...

"It's an alpha test guys… 8 years of dev for a game that will take 15 years to 'finish' it's normal in fact
nobody forces you to play during the development phase and be testers no ?"

2012 + 15 = 2027

So just another 7 years @ $70m pa = $480m , may as well round up for inflation, call it $1bn from start to finish. The adverts will be awesome, imagine that voiceover guy who does the films..."One Billion Dollars!....15 Years in the Making!.....Never been done before!....Coming Soon!" I mean wow, who wouldnt want to know what that was about? And by then most people will have forgotten anyway so fresh market again. Its genius! :)

If the pledging stopped and the Spice money stopped flowing .... That would be a different matter ....

Waiting to see the final outcome of the latest Freefly...but initial and mid reports werent as good as last one earlier this year. A new ship may not have the same effect as before either, time will tell, you never know with ships as they are 'tangible' at least, if not real or in game at least you can see something.

If only CR had been upfront sooner about how long it would take, rather than continuously leading people to believe its going to be just a bit longer. Just waiting on a certain bit of tech. And yet anyone with an ounce of skepticism would see that its many years away from release.

Oh that's rich.

Some stuff I shamelessly liberated from SA for cheap points:
I like to imagine an alternate timeline where Chris Roberts heads up development of World of Warcraft at the turn of the century.

After 8 years in alpha, WoW goes beta in 2009.
It uses the Quake 3 Arena engine.
There are no hearthstones. Players have to rent a room at the inn if they want to save their experience points for that session. If you do not have enough money, any experience points are lost when you log out. The client crashes constantly.
Bear asses are physicalized. You'll have to haul them one at a time unless you've paid $300+ for a horse (donkeys can be purchased for 1000 gold) with enough carrying capacity.
Each quest pays 10 silver.
Money is physicalized as well. You become extremely encumbered from silver. Exchanging silver for gold requires a trip to the faction's main city. You can contract a player with a horse to exchange your money for you.
Mounting your horse has an uninterruptable 35 second animation.
There are only humans but vast quantities of lore has been written about elves, dwarves, and orcs.
The Kingdom of Stormwind forces you to pay a weekly tithe or be sent to jail.
The Horde uses a completely different money system and killing things in Kalimdor will not yield silver.
Traveling to the other continent requires several days of the client continuously running. Players warp out of the boat and drown constantly.
Quest pipelines 1.0 are coming online and Ogrimmar will be moved to Kalimdor by Q3 2010. It's currently adjacent to Stormwind.
A server only supports 50 players.

What's the roadmap to the roadmap for Star Citizen Discussion Thread v13?

Nah actually, take all the time you need. Would rather v13 is released when ready rather than rush it out and be another 10k 11k posts of endless delays.

When the tech to allow us to go over 11k posts is finished, then thread development will really kick off.

I come for the SC comedy. I stay for the meta jokes!

There are people out there who are going to tell you that this is a post creep and we should make a smaller, less impressive thread in order to meet artificial deadlines. Cowpiss!

By the end of this year you will have everything you originally pledged for in your post, plus a lot more.

There may be delays and there may be changes; but when this happen, we will treat you with the respect you deserve rather than spending your money on public relations.

Has CR actually confirmed he is using the Gregorian Calendar? Maybe its like the Mayan one that counts down and were only 2010 years away now?

We spent your money on Business Class and pretty pictures, we are using the Calders money on PR to keep you in the dark.

I am sure every post contributes directly into thread development. After all, there are no evil moderators misusing post counts to take their e-thots on yacht vacations to Monaco or anything..
