Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

...an early access released product, but yes.
What is funny is the more fans write reviews, the more it validates SC as being a released product.
Star Citizen was released as early access years ago, so while it's taken a while for Metacritic to catch on it is better late than never.

SC markets itself as Playable Now with flashy trailers, and has a 30 day refund period, while also being in alpha development awaiting core tech and features to be implemented.

But yes, I agree that as more user reviews of the product come in, the likelihood of gaming media news outlets deciding to review it too increases greatly: "those that played it have reviewed it, it's time we did too".

Eurogamer did one years ago, but other sites didn't reciprocate.

I just hope these rabid SC fans don't notice how odd their one single review statistic looks and go on some sort of reviewing rampage

I don't want other games' score skewed by folks who think $10,000 is a normal amount to spend on a computer game

I mean... how will I ever trust Metacritic again?

I've posted the Metacritic info to Spectrum. Wonder what Nightrider-CIG will make of it?
So what's the deal with Metacritic? Did some timer elapse or was it actively put out to freely review recently?

While it's possible CIG told Metacritic "it's ready to review now", far more likely is Metacritic saw how CIG have been marketing SC recently, "Playable Now", flashy trailers, press releases, in-game events, etc, and they decided to open up the page.

First user review is from February 2022, so sometime prior to that was the page 'unlocked'.

SPOILER: It didn't actually work that well...

That's all taken from the same streaming session.
Yeah, even in the video I did like the lines about '...is that the box that kills us?', 'Oh yeah, it'll kill you...'

But when it works it does look like fun. If only it worked reliably and had fully fleshed out gameplay loops.

Heads for the door mumbling quietly about exploration and land claims... perhaps it's time for some more Valheim... it may be in early access, but there's loads to do and I've yet to be killed by a box!

No, I get that someone genuinely reported Beet Wagon to the FBI - can certainly believe an SC backer would do that.

I just cannot ever ever ever believe Beet Wagon would genuinely score SC 10/10 on Metacritic.

😂

So the review total was negative before the refunds sub even found it. Interesting.

And you think people who’ve refunded have never played the game. How exactly would that work?
The vast majority of refunders played x years ago and haven't tested by themselves the actual alpha. They don't want to waste their time with the freefly and don't own the game anymore (it's the "refund" channel).

Some of the regulars definitely play it to this day:

Because the sub is actually home to a broad church. Some haven't got rid of their core game package (in part because refunds aren't actually possible for many long-term players). Others have actually managed to refund fully, but do drop back in to free flies to see if the alpha has improved since their time. Others are simply sceptical about the game, and visit the sub to discuss SC without having to deal with the mindless tropes of white knights ;)

Also, it's not like fresh new refunders don't crop up regularly...

I won't attempt to figure out what percentage of the sub has actually played recently, because that would be an absurd task. It's cute that you think you know the answer though ;)
