Yep, I really can't believe FD didn't revert this one after it was picked up in beta. It was initially reported as WAI but there was some hope when QA said they'd passed the continuing feedback on to the development team. But it looks as though shaving a couple of seconds from the jump time has triumphed over the visual fidelity of the arrival effects.
Remember all the praise that was heaped upon ED for its visual quality and effects, even right back in pre-1.0 beta? Remember how the arrival sequence was singled out as a particularly jaw-dropping moment? Remember how the whole thing was repeated in spades when people started to experiment with VR? Well whatever's been done here stamps all over that. It's the first thing that every player experiences when dropping into every single star system, and it stutters and pops like a PS2 game.
The overall improvements in 2.3 are great; to me it even feels slightly slicker than the last beta. But this star thing is so jarring and feels so much like a retrograde step. And it's something we have to look at every single time we jump. I really hope it can be fixed, otherwise it's all that people -- especially explorers -- are going to be talking about for weeks.
I agree with this statement 100%. Whatever benefit was gained by the Developers by altering this feature (Reported as performing as expected) it, in no way, makes up for the loss of game appreciation, especially for explorers who cannot help but notice this terrible graphic every time they 'jump'. As said above it has taken an impressive image and reduced it to a third-rate one. Please return this to it's initial high level even if it requires extra time in hyperspace to allow the loading it will be worth it.
