General Station priority access Granted

edit: Please read post all the way through before making judgement.

Fully functional space stations and colonies should clear ship traffic, and premtivly give Players with breached Cockpit canopy priority docking access/emergency with assigned docking pad only timer being emergency oxygen.

And any player and NPCs outside of the station within a 15km-20km radius to hold, amd ships already landed to stayput until the emergency ship in question has landed.

If no pads are available, one will be cleared as quickly as possible

And colonies do an auto-ship repair at 3/th to half charge once landed.

Edit: highlighted type of damage that would trigger this response

Why?
There is never a problem with getting landing permission and even if you are in a docking queue, it is not for long.

I don't think it's a bad idea but I think the player should have to request it, somehow ......

Possibly might HAVE to be done while in supercruise then you have pre-granted docking access when you drop and there might have be faction reputation and actual damage to your ship (!) to get it.

Trying to land without permission might seam quicker but usually ends in disaster.

You dont need auto dock for permission. 7.5 km to request, audo dock disabled, fly into mailslot manually and land. Not a hard thing to do unless you are in one of the more out of shape size ships

I suspect the OP is referring to stations that don't immediately give docking access because the pads are all used. Sometimes you gotta wait a bit. Especially in Open.

Sometimes you see other ships get docking access before yourself. I assume they got there before you did.

Docking Access Denied.

On the small stations with the 3 pads and only up to medium will you run into that problem. Even then, it is 2 iron and 1 nickle to refill the life support if it is absolute dire circumstances. Only time I have had to wait more than 15 seconds from an access denied in a situation where the pad was occupied was because of a bug that left the AI on the pad for 5+ minutes required me to relog to refresh into a new instance and it was immediately clear. Ground colonies are similar but unless they are in Open with a player commander sitting on the pad going to cook themselves dinner the pads are usually open within a few seconds. It would be smart of FDev at least to institute an auto lower on a timer of 120 - 180 seconds for commanders simply to prevent them from going AFK tying up a pad

The hangar isnt magical, its still a physical part of the pad so the pad is still blocked.

Would make more sense however to drop you into an instance with a free pad from SC but then friends / wings may lose each other so thats just one reason probably why it doesnt.

Like the idea of some sort of emergency button from SC, maybe with 60s of O2 left you can pre-request quick landing to make sure the instance has a pad free is all.

Btw if youre using DC just fly through the mailslot then zero throttle, saves faffing looking for the pad but as soon as youre through the blue in the slot you have O2 restored as well so youre safe....as long as you have permission to dock in the first place that is.

What do ATC towers do when an aircraft declares an emergency?
They put incoming traffic into holding, so the aircraft having trouble can get to the ground on land quickly and safely. So why can't space stations do the same?
Welcome to the bureaucracy of Elite, where loitering is a crime punishable by death! That’s my response to anything that doesn’t make real-world sense in the game universe, and I actually love it 😂

Also, a damaged ship really doesn't constitute an emergency in ED. If it made it to the proximity of a base... its okay.

That depends on the emergency .. at least a bit.

You might not have life support materials. You might be on 0.00001% hull and a clear entry slot + gentle touchdown is a must. You might even be an explorer with sight or physical disabilities who relies on automated systems to play.

It might not be for everyone but I think there's a certain immersion value to requesting emergency protocols too.

Do Air Traffc Control towers often fire on friendly craft carrying passengers, explosives, radioactive junk, and god knows what else?

I quite clearly and specifically stated a breached cockpit canopy

Entering the mail slot - even without permission - could refresh the countdown for the life support timer (because the oxygen could flow back into the cockpit...but that won't help at an outpost.
