Stealth and NPC's

I want to be able to have some actual stealth in this game. if they dont see it, i didnt do it!

Took something from a locker with no one around and i got a bounty for it. kinda kills sneaking around a little bit.

Also, if an NPC is unaware that i am behind them, can we have our melee knock them out? obviously only if the NPC has no shields should this work. but i think it would be a nice feature if done properly. Alarms will sound if the body is found and so on.

Please let my sneaky ways be a possibility in this.

if there are missions in game which require stealth to complete then this dosent sound too much of an ask

but even in space or on plants if you grab cargo and nobody else is around to see you collect it then then item is still classed as stolen
 
It's pretty weird to me how outpost guards tolerate random commanders hanging around the outpost oxygen supplies, with the worst you can expect being a, "What the hell are you doing?", and maybe a quick scan. These areas should take cues from games like Watch Dogs and GTA and implement trespassing zones, where if you're spotted you're escorted away (or perhaps just shot at, depending on the controlling faction). This would make stealth far more necessary, as well as making the whole experience a tad more high stakes and believable.

as I get what you are saying, it should only be classed as stolen if you are scanned by an NPC. With the scan they can see if you have stolen items on you. this will give all the more reason to avoid guards. Once a guard spots you you have no choice but to sit and get scanned anyway.

Sadly the Sneak gameplay is barebones here. I want to present you guys a few adjustments and additions to know your opinion on them.

  • NPCs spot you instantly even if they see a tiny fraction of your commander. And if they see you with any of the tools "illegal" mode deployed they instantly become hostile; i get it when you are at the side of the NPC or they turn around and catch you on the act, butbeing at least 20m away from them they can know that you are using a tool with an illegal mode? really? That need's fixing, those NPCs are gods at detecting stuff.
  • Using the profile analyser in "clone id" mode triggers a response of a nearby NPC if they are already alert, like if the tool made a "firing" sound. Again even if you are above them or at least 10m away.
  • Having a "lean and peek" animation would help tremendously to navigate active settlements and inactive too when they are full of pirates.
  • A "pick up body" animation would be optimal too.
  • Stealth knockouts would be great too.

Some ideas i thought!
