I have just registered my ED game that I bought from Frontier on Steam, does this mean I will have to restart the game again from scratch? And do I have two versions of the same game on my computer now or is it all linked to the one game? Because I noticed I have to reinstall the game into my Steam folder? Will I still have to login via the Fonriter login to play the game?

For a worrying moment there I thought this was another steam player stats thread. They always go well....

The Frontier store and Steam versions are separate, if you want to play the Steam version (they are functionally identical of course) you will need to reinstall the game via Steam.

You will still need to log in via the Launcher.

Yeah but my question was really will I have to restart the game from scratch? I guess I will find out in an hour or two when its finally installed.

The only reason I am going onto Steam is because I am so fed up with the slow downloads of Frontier and having to download an update every time it seems I want to play the game. Steam has go to be better than putting up with those, it will be nice to get fast automated updates from now on.

No not at all. Your save is associated with your frontier account which is the same thing regardless of where you bought your key.

So I can uninstall the original game on my hard-drive now and just keep the Steam one? No point in having two versions on my computer I assume?

Why would you do that?

I thought STEAM takes a slice of FDEVs pie any time you buy something. Staying with FDEV, and using FDEV shop ensures they get the full amount for our delicious game. If 100,000 people did that, it's a lot of cash.

You will be starting from scratch. That is NOT a bad thing. You will do everything 4 times quicker than before. You will know where to go, where not to go, what to buy and how to fight. It took absolutely no time at all to buy a Cutter on my Steam account compared to my main account. I actually used my Steam account to find out places to go and stuff to buy and generally make a nuisance of myself without affecting my main account. It will pay dividends I can assure you.

OP transferred his account too steam, he will not start from scratch unless he clears his savegame.

Ahhh. Maybe I should read posts properly. I blame tiredness and nearly bedtime for that (bloody nightshifts).

Babelfisch is correct.

But so is my previous post regarding what I typed.

Steam stats threads are the best.

the Steam Launcher is quite handy and you also can ignore the Steam Store and buy skins and other stuff direct in the Frontier Store and Valve won't see a dime from that money [big grin]

A steam topic without chartd in the OP? People admitting they were wrong?

What is this freakshow?

It was more to do with the very slow download times of the Frontier updates from their direct launcher that annoyed me. Also, because I dont play the game very often now - last time being about six months ago, everytime I started the game it seemed I had a new massive download to go through first. Now my game will stay completely up to date automatically. And also you get the Steam playtime log which I like to compare how long I am playing my games, of course the Steam log will be about 150 hrs short of my real play time so thats not that helpful. But also I have lost games before where they were bought directly from publishers where I lost the login/registration info, now I try to keep everything on Steam. Its a lot easier should I have to format my computer as well to reinstall everything.

So lots of reasons for going to Steam.
