Stutter Stutter Stutter since 1.3 - near stations, asteroids, and pretty much anything that has a model and collision

Before 1.3, Elite: Dangerous was smooth as butter. Frame rate through the roof. All ultra settings. Life in Space was good...

The new 1.3 comes along... now if I'm near a station, in a station, in a resource asteroid belt, or near a few other ships... the game becomes stutter stutter stutter, frame loss, stutter. And sometimes while flying by large asteroids, the entire asteroid isn't drawn... which makes it deadly for near misses.

Anyone else experiencing this? Sure would suck to give up my favorite space game cause a new patch makes the frame rate low when near other objects, which makes it difficult to hit targets, land, and fly by anything.

When I'm all alone in the black of space, it's smooth as usual. But whatever they did to 1.3 my two graphics cards don't like it. :(

I'm currently using two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti, The CPU is an AMD FX 9370 Eight-Core Processor, and I got 16 gigs of ram running windows 7 ultimate.

The rig doesn't have any problems running any other games. GTAV is fine, Stranded Deep, Shadow of Mordor, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Kerbal Space Program, Dying Light, and more... in fact, Elite: Dangerous 1.2 ran just fine. Whether flying cargo between star systems, or in the fray in a war zone... :-/

I kinda wish I could have Elite: Dangerous back.

Surely, I'm not the only one experiencing this. Right? :)

I encountered the same problem on Minecraft with a 970. Then I realised it was doing like 500fps. When I turned it down fixing it at 60fps the stutter disappeared.

Nvidia has reproduced the stutter issue but the priority level atm is very low. So please all with nV Cards and Stutter issues fill in the following form.

http://surveys.nvidia.com/index.jsp...&ClickID=bqkv6vmmkng1sqzels6yfmgv1yquzggzvgyg

It's really impotant to clarify if it's app or driver related!!!

Interesting thanks for the update. I may raise a report on the AMD site and see what happens. We can't be the first people to do this though surely? I do remember a chap several months ago saying he had a ticket open with AMD or Nvidia but it went quiet. Whilst it's possible that one or more instances of stutter may be related to graphics drivers I still hold that it's an issue with the game, otherwise why would it affect users with both cards in the same way?

Yeah i'm also thinking it's an app engine issue but maybe nVidia and AMD could support FD to find a solituon! This problem exists much to long.......

Will fill it out as well, but It is most assuredly the application, as I have said 1001 times here it was butter smooth for me in 1.2, it's been crap ever since, the voodoo of changing the PhysX settings is placebo..this is not a rendering issue the GPU draws the screen just fine after the call. There are erroneous calls and other unknown things that are causing the "load" stutter, microstutter, pause, McStutter, whatever we want to call it. *yawn*

A little history on the subject:
Stutter has been an issue since ver 1. Version 1.2 (Wings) was the least affected / best IMO and from 1.3 and above it has returned and become worse patch after patch.

Lately (and since the launch of 1.4 CQC beta and gamma) it has become progressively worse for me and I wonder if it is related with server network resource allocation. Is Frontier allocating more network resources to the test servers and simultaneously limiting Main game servers? I honestly don't know. I am not playing 1.4 even though I had access to it since beta cause frankly I have very limited time due to real life commitments. But for what I know this issue exists for a considerable amount of time and it is starting to annoy me quite significantly. Come on Frontier, you can do better than this.

Well, stutter get's really heavy when in a CZ with a lot of NPC's, doesn't really matter if there are players there too or not. Especially audio stutter!

I wonder what the heck is going on with the stuttering, what is causing it, could it potentially be one of the things that is causing gpu/cpu not to be fully used? netcode? like in LHS 3774 my fps in supercruise randomly drops below 30 from pure fluid 60 everywhere, and cpu and gpu usage drops as well, as if the game is delayed by something that it isn't getting? could also be similar that is causing stuttering?

I'm not a programmer but i think it's bad texture streaming or memory leaks. If there is no object close to me the frames stays @ 120fps...

FX8350
GTX 760 2 gb
16 Gb RAM
Windows 7 ultimate
I get heavy stuttering approaching planets, frame dips to 25 fps.
60 fps smooth in supercruise and inside stations once the textures are loaded.
I'm playing at 1080p, high settings.
Any other game runs just fine at steady 60 fps, GTAV included.

I´ve been out for while since i could stand the sttutering. Any news on the fix?

Well, here's something to add to the mix:

I used to get some ugly stuttering when approaching planets in Supercruise. I just upgraded some components in my computer and now the stuttering is gone.

Previous System with Stuttering
OS: Win10 Pro
CPU: Intel i7 920
Motherboard: Gigabyte (Forgot model)
RAM: 6GB DDR3 Corsair
Disk: SSD Vertex 4
GPU: nVidia GTX 970

Settings
Resolution: 2560x1600 Windowed Borderless
Settings: Video options at max. SMAA

New Components
CPU: Intel i7 6700
Motherboard: ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming
RAM: 16GB Corsair @ 3200MHz

Notes
OS clean install obviously, however only the new components were changed.

Yes, 2560x1600 is a fair amount of pixels to push at max settings, however it used to run fine except for the stuttering around planets, which has now completely disappeared. The Galaxy Map is also a heck of a lot smoother.

My main reasons for upgrading the above components were to reduce electrical power consumption and give me the option for an NVME M.2 drive in the future. In recent years, I'd only upgraded my video card and thought it was also about time to upgrade the other parts.

So, just to clarify, there were no changes in the Video card between builds, so it's obviously not a video card problem. Both used the same SSD and Win10 x64 with the same nVidia driver versions.

My guess is that with the DDR4 and the chipset optimisations that I'm now better able to feed my video card. It is indeed possible that at least some of the stuttering is caused by system bottlenecks that are not 100% supporting the video card at the settings people are using.

I'm not going to pretend that my example solves everyone's case of stuttering, I just thought I'd report this in case it helps anyone.

I have just started playing the game again since the Hutton Mug goal (few weeks) and I have to say the stutters are the worst I have found in the game yet since Standard Beta. In fact I had to turn down my graphics settings to medium from high because they were so noticeable. Now getting far more stutters around planets, when panning the view around stations. I've always had them in Hyperspace and near planets though but not so noticeable as they are now. I have though recently upgraded to Win10 but otherwise no change to software/hardware since Standard Beta. But I also must say that the medium settings are actually quite good. And I do have a low end GTX550ti card that needs upgrading but the rest of my computer isnt bad (six core AMD, 12Gb Ram, Win10 Prof on SSD drive).

My rig is not that powerful. I3 duo core 2.9GHz hyperthreaded, with a R9 285, so I was surprised that ED is not even taxing the graphic card nor processor, both sits around 50% usage. I get slow downds to 9 fps when entering crowded system... Normaly it runs on 50+ even in stations. I also get those wierd sound cut offs in CZ when too many bullets flying around, still processor and graphic cards not even running at full.

I get 17 fps min in Heaven on ultra settings in 1080p so why this game would slow down to a crawl like this? This is the only game that does that and it drives me crazy. I hope it will be resolved sooner than later, 'cause if people with better hardware have same issues, guess its not gonna work well for VR when it come out, and steam reviews will plummet even further.

Has anyone had any improvement in 1.4 beta?

I never had a stuttering issue before, but on the current 1.3 version, stutter is bad in RES, but only there. Not sure what changed, I will certainly double-check later today if this is the same in the 1.4 gamma version.

I would be surprised if it has anything to do with my setup:

Intel core i7-5820k @ 4 GHz (water cooled)
16 GB DDR4 RAM @ 2800 MHz
Nvidia GTX 980
Windows 7 (minimal install, for gaming only, I work under Linux and FreeBSD)
