So that's why the moderators are heavy handed, there is no such thing as free speech in the UK. Completely different set of values.

Well, this thread doesn't look at all like it'll be eventually locked after turning into a disaster zone, not in the least.

To be fair, it seems like the intention of these campaigns is to remind people that stuff that is already a criminal offence is STILL a criminal offence when you do it via social media or whatever.
If you saw somebody in the street and were abusive in regard to gender, race, religion, disability then you can be nicked for it. Same thing applies to online interactions.

And, of course, plod is quite happy to pursue these issues because the evidence is all available and they don't have to bother with any of that pesky "investigation" malarkey.

Having said that, these campaigns often imply that being a grumpy old sod on the internet can get you into trouble and it rather makes you wonder what offence such people could actually be charged with.

"He wuz critical of the complainants unsportsmanlike conduct in a video game m'lud"
"That will not stand! Take him away!!!!!"

but its not ok to abuse someone,
I agree. Harassment is wrong, however you do it.

However, you cannot make saying "a particular thing" illegal and still consider yourself a free country. Those are two mutually exclusive things.

or deny the holocast..
. It's stupid as all get out, but should NEVER be made illegal. Freedom includes the freedom to be wrong.
