Modes [Suggestion] How to incentivise open play and make it relevant

What I meant is the disconnection between his vision and what the game really is.

Oh, well the "disconnection" is simple.

He thinks people will naturally be nice to each other when in a situation where there are limited rules / enforcement.
The PvP'ers then proceeded to hunt him down to the point he no longer plays Open.

He also stated he sees ED as a co-op game.
That is, in it's current state, he sees it as a co-op game.

To be honest, saying that line was just a counter point to why Blizzard would make changes that FD wouldn't, because I find myself wondering "Really? He wants to play this grindy tedium...?" a lot of the time.

...anbd there are promised upgrades coming to exploration...but no sign of PVP upgrades.....

If history repeats itself, They're prone to disappoint. Just looking at you, useless 20 Kylie route plotter. Or you, beige plague. Or you, USS Thargs. Or you, MultiCrew. Or you etc etc

I sincerely wish I'm dreadfully wrong. FX sounded awesome this year.

Our Lord and master DBOBE is an explorer. He did state in an interview that when he has the time, he's off into the black.
He also plays with an XBox pad at work (not much room on his desk) but has a HOTAS at home if I recall correctly.

You know, crafting that wall.... I've sat through a lot of interviews, I need a new hobby :p

I've got to ask, as I rarely leave the bubble, but why is the 20K LY useless?
(the rest I agree with)

It's useless because, while "true" exploration doesn't rely on Neutron route plotting, no one setting for a true exploration trip will need to plot 20 Kylies each time (or even 10 or 5). It would have become very important for Big Travelling, such as Buckyball racing and such, reaching BP, Colonia, SagA* etc. Now, the New 20 Kylie route plotter doesn't do any good for Neutron route plotting - it's faster and better to plot jump by jump as it is right now. It fails to connect Neutron highways and you end with a route that has 90% Main Sequence, 10% Neutrons.

Do you really think that someone in SDC would ever say that?

How long have you been playing the game?

Have you ever PvP'd?

Because it looks like you don't grasp the most basic truth of ED:

100% of the playerbase is PvEers. So much so that we PvPers have to spend 70% of our time PvEing (for rebuy money and Engineers and such). Best case scenario.

Wonder why they are banned from here

genius? Most people just stop coming here because of the toxicity they get

Take your pick sugar pie.

People mostly stop coming here because of the above kinds of verbal attacks. "Sugar pie"?

There's also this thing about being able to suss someone out by the words they chose. Your chosen words are belittling and help your arguments not at all.

People who hurl insults and invective get banned for the insults and invectives, not because they are PVP-Everywhere proponents.

As this is "not your first rodeo" I'd think you'd know that by now. But go ahead, keep making the case that people like you, with your attitude, are what many players don't want to have to deal with in a gaming session.

100% of the playerbase is PvEers.

Actually, that's not quite correct.

While it would be hard to do, it is possible to earn money and progress by never shooting an NPC or scanning anything etc...
You could play and get by, just by targeting other players and stealing from them or by collecting bounties from them. So someone can opt out of PvE.

And while I'm speaking "technically", the game is "technically" 100% PvP. As you cannot turn off people shooting at you.
PvP'ers proved that when they joined the Mobius group under false pretences and went about killing people one day.

As for Solo, it is still the same PvP enabled game every one else is playing. It's just the matchmaking server is refusing to let you see them.
But if it glitches one day and lets you see them - you'll be able to shoot and kill them.

A PvE game actively stops you from being able to kill another player. You see them, you can interact with them, but you cannot harm them.
Elite: Dangerous, "technically" is a 100% PvP game. Because if you see it, you can kill it.

To be fair, my stance on PvP in this game is much my stance on PvP generally.

"Why would I bother? Do you drop amazing loot? Is your exp value incredible? Really worth the time I'd put in to kill you vs the risk of being killed by you?
So, what you're saying is, I'd expend time, money/resources to kill you, for no particular gain, at a massive risk.. in a game that has currently been entirely about casual progression via those resources."

Why I'm pro-Open, provided changes are made, is because I'd like to encounter more players generally, and it's possible to escape PvP encounters in this game.
Why I don't play Open is because I don't want to be murdered because you're bored, and don't fear the consequences of doing so.

It's an entirely different ball game when someone's trying to take you out for your sweet loot, rather than when someone's trying to kill you because imagining your frustration is the only way they can get off anymore.

This.

The whole "GITGUD2EZSCRUB" mentality is tedious to deal with, so a lot of players immediately opt out of it.
I know people who won't play ranked in games that are generally "Nice game! You really had some sweet moves out there." because they don't want to deal with the "competitive community", who they perceive as, basically, that guy.

On a topic related note though:

I wonder if it would make more sense to just roll up PvP and throw it into its' own game mode, where lawless actions are more or less permitted, and then have what is currently "Open" be more PvE orientated, but with severe punishments for players who attack other players.

And blocking people on your end to gain an advantage in any game is hacking.

Well, no, not really. You aren't changing any code. You aren't attacking memory with a buffer overload to piggyback some malicious code into the game. You're just using the tools that FD have provided. That's the whole reason a block list works.

Please consider carefully throwing accusations like hacking around - you're approaching dangerous territory.

In his defence, he means using your firewall to block connections, which IS technically an exploit.

People can still play the same as they are now. But when it comes to player factions. There has to be some balancing to it.

This point has been raised several (or more than several) times in this thread, but you do not respond to it.

Given the architecture of the game, given time zones, given server latency and instancing and given Xbone and PS4 players, even if everyone was playing in open, you still aren't going to be able to police every instance. It just won't work! It's not technically feasible.

So when your argument rests on "we should be able to fight back against the BGS players" it goes nowhere, given the above.

Please address this question with some practical thinking instead of general foment. I'll listen.

Because i'll tell you this, ive never been called names by another "PVPer". But ive been nothing but insulted coming here to these forums or even on reddit sometimes.

In my review of this thread, you are, by far and away, the one hurling most of the insults, smears and belittling comments. Quid pro quo.
