Modes [Suggestion] How to incentivise open play and make it relevant

That's a fair point... But more an issue with the (abuse of the) block feature surely though? :)

ps: Don't think the block feature is quite as black and white as you might suggest though?

I agree with your PS and suspect the block function isn't quite as black'n'white the way we think it works, but it does do *something*, and is a valid in game facility, so any use fundamentally can't be labelled "abuse", since E: D is by design a pro-choice game, and extends many ways for each player to choose how they wish to be instanced with other CMDRs...
... hence threads like these.

I suspect an open only trade CG would be an entirely one sided affair. Lots of Vultures, FDLs etc hovering around the occasional madcap T6. Like a tourist accidentally driving through a favela wearing a rolex.

You don't think if it was for something "meaningful" it might actually finally promote Wings trying to defend and get cargo ships through? Remember that premise long ago, with ships working togethor for a purpose/goal? :)

Who likes being the jam in the sandwich though?

Features like "every player experiences and affects the single shared galaxy state"? ;)

(BGS unintended effects, like the influence tanking on being wanted and Security streaming in to be shot down, notwithstanding - that sounds like a bug....)

LOL! Flashbacks...so much work....[alien]

You can answer your own question when I suggest to do that trade CG in Solo only.

...Surey the answer is about as relevant to my question as your shoe size?

So if I ask again, if there was a CG created that was in OPEN only what's the issue to folks not interested in PvP etc...? By all means feel free to answer size 10 if you think that's your best input to the matter.

That feature got a lot of my groups new players off to solid starts....They could fly escort to my T9 and make a hauler or better on one trade run....

But, a bunch of rather wise folks in this thread stated, people play PvP in OPEN for the gameplay? So surely it's not about the jam?

And remember, Wing Members at the least get a little trade bonus when the "jam" sells...

Ziggy's not being rhetorical with that question...what would you say if someone demanded all CG's to be in Solo, so that there was pure equivalancy...the same answers would apply to that question as your question!

I misread. You proposed alongside, I read it as instead.

I think default font size is 10, so there you go.

Check it out! Great minds ... :D

I have a terrible view of human behaviour borne from my own experiences. As much as I try to think positively about the possibility of a successful open CG, where we all hold hands and sing cumbiya and try to pass the chicken to Hutton Orbital; I suspect the KFC crew would blockade the system with their special sauce.

Derp!....to answer the question as posed...it has been done a few times...one for a contest involving real world money/value, and another for Salome and lore....

there is no problem with the occasional (2 or 3 in 5 years now?) Open only CG...

Of course the real problem with these is that instancing is more of a problem...since the Salome 'CG' was only run for 12-24 players to have a real active hand in.....since the instance can only hold that many people naturally....so it really wasn't a CG...more like a DM'ed D&D game made of random party members....

We do play in Open for the gameplay. Do we all want to be the trader when there's a game of Trader / Escort / Attacker going on?

.... and Open CGs would get very boring when the inevitable pad blockers arrive - remembering the Hutton Orbital Mug CG.

I'm not... So shoe size it is ;)

a) We're not just talking of CGs, but other fascets of the game too. eg: A couple of Powerplay tasks being OPEN only.

b) We already have suggestions to get rid of pad blockers. ie: Forcing going below deck (after a short amount of time), to then free up the pad and even being decomissioned from the instance later on etc.

Due to the game design...I can't understand why anyone would bother with attacker at a CG....to each their own.

There's the point that will prove to be contentious - limiting anything to Open only - no permanent features are limited to a single game mode.

Suggestions are great - whether they ever get implemented is another thing altogether.

A trade CG is a tad akin to the old 'running the gauntlet' at school. But at least we could dodge the odd kicker as we went by. In ED theres no anti pvp method other than resorting to pvp oneself. Now if we had tools to fox pvp legitimately, like sneaky drives or wedgey limpets then fine. But pvp is such a one dimensional bore. So Im happy to let open cgs go by. I did, however enjoy the inanity of the hutton one which I did in open in an empty T9 as I forgot to load cargo.
