Flying through the black, docking and in combat, there is often a need to type something quickly can be a distraction from the task at hand. I know in a wing you have voice comms, but that isn't accessible to everyone.
What I would like to see is 10 user-defined quick access text messages that can be bound to keys. Why 10? Well, for no other reason than I'm thinking of the number pad. These messages would be set in the Options and could use certain [tags] so for example if you're in a large ship such as an Imperial Cutter, an Anaconda or a Federal Corvette, when you're approaching a station you could have a message of
Where [StationName] is the nearest station to you, [ShipType] and [ShipID] are your ship details, [PadNumber] is the pad you're cleared to land at. Bind that to key 1 and when you're approaching the station, hit that key to have it say for example
Perhaps if you have a tag in your text that isn't yet valid, in the above example maybe you don't have a pad number yet, then the text display would silently fail.
Another binding for when you're leaving the station, so you can alert local commanders that you're going to be filling the slot.
You could also have various ship types bound to keys, so in the heat of battle you can hit a key to say to your wing
or whatever wooly phrase takes your fancy.
For PvP combat/piracy, you might want to have various taunts set up
where [Cmdr] is replaced with the name of the targetted commander.
There would be endless possibilities of what this might be used for by commanders (and I hope would be a suggestion that would not be too technically difficult to implement? maybe?)
You could either build it so that the text is automatically sent, or you could have it so that the text is just prepared in the Comms panel so you have to then click to send the message.
Any other useful [tags] that people can think of? What do Cmdrs think? Would you use something like this?
