[Summary Thread] Removed and Missing Information in Elite: Odyssey

Lap Panel UI: Shield percentage removed

For all my PvPers & Thargoid hunters alike (though the general public is also affected by this) - I'd also like to point out that we're entirely missing part of the Lap UI panel in our ships that give us precise shield information on our vessels mid-fight: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/27270

When you have 3k MJ shields and upwards, those 3 shield rings on your dash don't cut it for precise numbers when debating whether you can "take another ram or not" for instance.

It'd be great to have this panel back.

Galaxy map: please bring us the old bar on the selected system, with easy way to target, plot, and bookmark!
When a system is selected no info about the distance (very annoying using NS route).
System map: please let us have info like before, was much better.
Ship management: please make it functional, more user friendly, in fact was better before. Today I preferred to use Horinzons just for changing a module in my ship. The ship management (modules, etc) is a big downgrade.

Distance is shown to the right in System Information.
Buttons to plot and bookmark easily are also on the left side.
I agree that the system map could need some polishing, although once you get used to it it isn't as bad as it initially appears.

You'll have to be more concrete about modules. What did you like about the old system that is no longer available / too complicated now?

@Ulon Yuanshi
Thanks a lot for this summary. I haven't gone into the details of Odyssey really yet but if I add all the broken bits here and there I'm pretty sure I'll rack up the HOTAS for a while and wait for some more serious fixin' by FDev. Judging by my experience when ED started, it's gonna be another 4 to 6 months before I get back on the saddle.

The elegance for one. New map has a plethora or an over abundance of loud colored vertically aligned icons on both sides.

Thank you @Ulon Yuanshi. This is a great summary, much appreciated. Glad you're liking most of the changes, we'll bring the rest up to par :)
Our problems are primarily that the game runs like a garbage fire and none of you seem to be acknowledging it as a widespread issue. At best you've said "a few of our users are experiencing problems."

Sorry but I really cannot agree with your word "easily".
Now, mouse has to "travel"/move much longer than before, to do same operations or choices.
Before distance of selected system was immediately shown. Now, we need to go to the side panel and click. It is not easy or easier.
Try to plot a fast neutron star route. It is now very inconvenient.
About modules: just do yourself the exercise and try to change a module.
Before we could easily compare changes (powerplant power, jump range, etc).
We had all ship info immediately available in one glimpse. Now, we need to browse 4 small pages on the lower part of the screen.
All in IU looks visually attractive and beautiful, but to play and enjoy is worse (without any change from Alpha).

As well as functionality issues, look into the bugs and glitches on the UI where it isn't displaying the information it should be correctly. not game breaking, but certainly doesn't help.

When buys onfoot gear I can't see any way to know what onfoot gear I've already bought ? Maybe I'm missing something but didn't want to spend the price of a small ship on a weapon that I already own! ( does it tell you if you try and do that ? )
The whole lack of access to inventory when on foot as annoying ( unless I'm just missing some bind somewhere or maybe one of the myriad of new and ambiguous icons scarred all over the new UI's has something on ).

I'm glad someone was willing to spend the time to review and list most of the missing and broken features on the new UI - it's truly staggering how bad and unfriend the new UI is, it was clearly not designed with any kind of usability in mind - almost everything is more clicks and harder than it was. Even some simple things like just plotting a route 'feels' worse than it was - even if technically it's not any more clicks.
On the maps, the Click and hold takes just as long or longer then the click to trigger popup menu and the click to plot. Now there is no popup menu then the other task that were just there on the popup menu are now scattered over various new icons to the right, so you have to move the mouse to the side of the screen to get to them - which again takes a second or two longer than it used to.
The point is not so much the extra seconds wasted - it's that some one shuffled all the UI elements around and just made things worse, not better!
I really hate the big ugly orange icons - they are not an improvement on anything. It reminds me of MS's failed attempt at a mobile phone OS.

I don't see this in the original post (apologies if I missed it):

When you're in normal space and you target a station, outpost, or base you can see what faction owns that asset. This is not true of settlements. No matter who owns a settlement in my home system I see the system controller as the owner of the settlement. This is leading to unexpected wars.

The only workaround seems to be to visit each settlement and take notes on their controlling factions, which is not what I'd call optimal.

One more for the missions section, if you're taking submissions;
Evacuation missions from a burning station are not shown at all in the Odyssey client - the board just shows no missions available. I'm pretty sure it's just an oversight in the UI (didn't include them in the filter?), as the missions still show up if you relog into Horizons.

Just checking the obvious, did you actually click into the passenger lounge? or was that greyed out/not accessible?

It was inacessible to me on thursday morning at Donar's Oak, but that was also just before the weekly PP/BGS tick, so for me that might have played into it.

Progress bars toward unlocking suit/equipment engineers are missing. Petra Olmanova for example shows a progress bar if you're not an Expert combat pilot showing how close to the rank you are. The suit engineers (at least the first three) do not have these.
