Supersampling with Oculus works again!

Holy shizle this needs a BUMP

got CV1 , in ED i put SS to 1x . then what i do is run debug tool set to 2 then enter. then open oculus home (you get judder) then open elite normaly and login. then i go into open/solo or group (then i get bad judder) then just close DEBUG TOOL and i get tracking back and judder is gone BUT SS stays . And holy moly this sharpen things up. I was totaly blown away from dk2 to CV1 but this put things up a lot more NOOOICE find guys

Great tip. Will be trying it out if ED still lagging in improvements when my Rift arrives. Oculus is about 2 weeks ahead of last early estimate now so I figure 4 weeks max or less if their pace picks up

Glad you guys found that helpful and thanks Pausanias for listing the additional steps1

I so envy you guys with CV1 arriving, I was online when preorder started and hit F5 like a madman only to find out that it didnt launch in my country :(
My Dk2 will have to do for the moment but I with the new Oculus runtime and this recent tweak things look better on this aging device than they ever did!

btw. Assetto Corsa updated their newest build with a Oculus.ini file where they included the Pixelperdisplay Override value so you dont have to run Debugtool, pretty neat!

just a question before i try this, does the pixel per display setting reset when you stop and run something else? or do you need to do it each time?

is 1 what its set to by default?

@markwood82: The override value when you first run the debug tool is 0, which I assume means no override applied. That is likely the same as applying a manual override of 1.0.

I gave this another try on my setup. It is definitely a massive improvement. I had to crank some settings down and move to "VR High" just to get back some lost fps, but still looks much better than my previous settings. :)

A quick note to say thanks to the original poster. This has made the single biggest improvement to my Elite VR experience for some time.

I've just spent two hours in VR and enjoyed every minute. A sharper image and greater field depth are great.

Thanks again.

OPEN HOME FIRST!!!! Then debug , no judder at all! Keep debug open in the background.

Debug tool on pixel density at 2 is far better than in game supersampling x2 (take a little more power on my SLI of 970 too). On DK2 the sharpening and clarity remind me the use of sweetfx filters.

There is no option for SS in ED now..........

............or am I missing something?

How I use it - and it is bootiful! :)

You are missing something, click the little + next to quality, and you can select SS. For me none of that basically did anything for my quality in my DK2. However the debugtool totall works and rocks.

I use this now instead of in game SS as the quality is far superior. Its really night & Day when I tried 1.5 in the oculus debug tool.

So I am using 1.25 as my R290 is not capable of keeping up rendering at all situations(planetary) without too much relying on async timewarp for me and it still is a big improvement in visual quality
Thanks a lot for finding this - I consider this a must setting for now for a CV1(or DK2)

i'm reviving this thread because those that have a CV1 and a good graphics card... they don't know what they are loosing if they don't try it.

It's amazing how crisp and detailed everythin looks with pixel density in 1.5, tryed it in another games like war thunder ot Valkyrie and it's like i have a CV2 NOW!! shame even with a 980ti cant handle that pixel density well in those games, but ED seems to work much better compared with the "in game" supersampling.

my objective now is to OC my 980ti and see if i have positive results with the frame rate,, if not i definetly will go for a 1080ti when it comes out because playing with the rift that way is like day and night.

This VR thing is suprising me more and more every day.

It will be good if this thread could be made sticky. I find it hard to play without the tip in this thread now. :)

Is anyone running into blue screen issues after a hour or so of gaming with the OculusDebugTool running in the background? If not, please share what NVIDIA drivers you are using? I am running the latest - 368.22. And I had this happen 4-5 times already in the last few days, usually after an hour or more of stable gaming. The oculus display goes almost gray-scale (the colors fade out in a weird way and turn various shades of gray, like you are playing on a black and white monitor), then immediately after, the game stutters and hangs. Often followed by a system bugcheck and reboot (on win10 64-bit).

I tried a few hours without the debugtool and this issue does not happen.

@jannix, i've not had that problem, but thought it worth mentioning that you don't need to keep the Debug Tool open. In fact, I experience better performance if I close it once ED is up and running.

exactly,, it's better to close the debug tool after ED starts... it improves performance without loosing the pixel density.

Check your temps too sounds like you might be overheating

For those of you that also play DCS, they are adding pixel density control directly into the sim which will negate the need to run the debug tool. Maybe ED could do this.

This has definitely made a big difference but it is clear that even my 980 is not enough umph for what is needed. That 1080 might be in the cards after seeing this. Great find guys!

Well, that's definately an improvement ! It doesn't seem quite as sharp as prior to 1.3sdk. The text seems to shimmer more but it is a good improvement over the SS you get in ED and I cannot see any frame drop at the moment. I'm running a 980gtx (standard). Will the CV1 be that much better than this ?

Thanks for sharing this find !

I can say yes as I have a very similar build to yours with CV1 and this made me a lot happier. Have a 1080 on the way end of next week so should be even better with that. Trying to EBay my 980 but a lot of very lowball offers so not the kind of return on that like I did with my DK2.

Today i don´t know why, but seems the debug tool doesn´t work properly

when i close it... after some time, the game looses the pixel density and comes back to normal mode, normally when i go into galaxy map and come back, or just after exiting hyperspace.

2 days ago worked properly but today,, no way.

Anybody has the same problem?

Is there any way that game works properly? i tryed it and even in low settings there is horrendous stutter... following forums seems is well known and the VR support is still in development.
