News Support update - Reiteration of player harassment rules

then you and your group get all salty because a player decides to use the ingame save and exit option wait the 15 seconds and not get killed ... do you have the right to call them combat loggers ? do you have the right to disrupt everyone else's fun just because you want to force someone into a pvp situation ????

they have used that tactic in the past the "ol' graceful exit" also add reload the game and rejoin the fight with shields restored

As I said before the easy way to do this is use the Karma system and hit them in the wallet and waste their time. Its easy. You spent hours and hours of grinding to get the best min max meta build for destroying newbies and defenseless ships, then when you die you lose your ship with no rebuy option. All of those engineered parts are gone. The act must be tied to the ship. Then there will be no worry about repercussion against FDEV because it will be up to those types of players if they want to continue to play.

In this game the murders roll up to you in the equivalent of a Navy battlecrusers and they blow away container ships. They wont interdict people that can actually fight them. They wont target anyone that gives them a challenge because its not funny. Push them out of the bubble and into anarchy systems. Give them access to only the crappiest of ships and mods. When and if they decide to join the civilized society they have to offset that karma effect of being pushed out of the bubble by a cooling off period. Show up in any system other than anarchy and you will be hunted by the NPCs. Just like in real life.

It would make the risk of being a murder/ganker much higher and the only reward that they should get for doing it is of their own making. The game does not need to cater to murder.

However if they did implement a proper crime and punishment system, then real Piracy could take place in the game. You can just get jacked for your cargo without worrying about being blown away by everything that interdicts you.

Games like Rust, Ark, and DayZ are the games that people like this should play. It fits in those games universe because those games are all about surviving on limited resources in a very small enclosed environment.

In this game the human race did not move out into the stars just so they could all become serial killers.

So now that there are clear rules stating as much, then I believe FDEV is going down the right track. Be a bad guy and you get treated like one. Its as easy as that.

I gotta say that very often it feels like I need an army of lawyers to play this game or participate on the forums. Never in all my years have I witnessed an environment that is so smotheringly oppressive, and backwardly crippled by pathetic fastidious nitpicking and polictical correctness, with words and actions warped and twisted and used against us, and stifling but vague conditions on what is deemed legitimate gameplay.. Very sinister and creepy.

Now, not only is our every word examined and scrutinised to the nth degree, so are our actions in the game.

If you read this its going to be almost impossible to play the game without violating it:

But er, 'Infitite Freedom' right.? lol wat. I play games for enjoyment and a sense of escapism, not to put myself in some viritual prison. [rolleyes]

If people acted this way in real life then they would be in prison or executed in some states. Pretty sure they cant do that.

All games have some basis in reality. That is why we as human beings can relate to them. FDEV has created a game that is firmly rooted in the realm of Science Fiction. In all of science fiction there are only 2 types of mass murders. Aliens that humans cannot relate to in any way, because well they are aliens. Or crazed psychopaths like the Reavers in Firefly.

The one thing the entire Sci Fi genre has in common with those kinds of character archetypes is that they are always marginalized. Reavers are left alone because this stick to one un occupied area of space and Aliens are generally hunted and destroyed. I could name off about 20 or 30 sci fi books that have spanned back through the last 50 years that treat all archetypes the exact same way. That is for the simple fact that people can relate to the story. It mimics real life in some sense.

It boils down to the simple fact that the game is called Elite Dangerous Not Elite Murderous. While murder is dangerous not all danger is murder.

This clarification was put in out in regards to the clear harassment that took place during a planned player group event for charity. You cant run into a charity fundraiser dinner and start pushing over the chairs and tables. You get the cops called on you.

So this is FDEVs very nice and Generous clarification on their plan for their game. Alot of other companies wouldnt have been this nice and re iterated a known fact. They would have let the ban hammer fly.

That's not how I interpreted this, but sadly some people who actually want this will interpret it as a victory for them. There's a line between killing other players andrepeated targeting/following specific individuals or invading private groups after all reasonable measures have been taken to prevent that.

Here's how I interpret this: if someone wants to be a psychopath and murder everything in sight for no apparent reason that's fine. If you specifically target a particular individual repeatedly with the sole intention of preventing that particular individual from enjoying the game then that can be considered harassment.

I do agree totally with these interpretation... I'm unfortunately stuck in ED not able to play "Horizons" (although i bought it) on my machine... so i'm confronted with the fact that other CMDR's tune up their vessels quicker and better than I do... And by that fact i'm "weaker" in my gameplay so i have to be more inventive or stop playing.

When a player is "killed" in game by another player then this is "the game"... this is role playing !! If i choose to be a pirate and your hold is full of valuables then i could be "forced" to indict you multiple time to be able to steal your hold. But that is the game.. If you have a problem with this then play shooter games or anything else...

But if you wait for me to be there and then you hunt me down every time i come online just to annoy me.. than this is harassment. I don't know what happened between those two groups and i'm not interested to know. But a fact is, like in real life, you mess around with people for whatever reason - you might get a reaction. Thats how is goes in life - look around you !! That's how wars start... In a game like ED and the wonderful universe they created... war is a part of it.
If whatever one group is doing to another is fully done in game play style.. than that is the game.

Yeah I had this happening to me. When i joined a CG recently I got shot down by another player, no big deal. That stuff happens. Then I got shot down again, and again, again, again... and so on. Mostly by the same commander. What's the fun in that. I got shot down so many times I started to lose money fast, then I lost ships fast because I didn't have any money left for insurance.

The last time I played 'open' I got shot down again by a Cobra and while I had a very decent Python it took the Cobra about 5 seconds to completely destroy me. I'm still figuring out how this was possible. Anyhow, since then I lost some joy in the game and I decided to play 'solo' for a while to get my reserves up and I can buy a decent ship again.

What I'm saying, this went too far and crossed the line in my opinion. Deliberately picking out players with smaller ships over and over again.

..... And THIS is why I'll NEVER play in open (AGAIN) I've spent far too many hours of my REAL life for some some snot-nosed griefer (or group of, as misery does indeed invariably love company) to ruin it all for a few seconds of emotional issue alleviation for some screwed up sadist- no thanks. I was ganked after meticulously grinding for 1st Diamondback- unarmed, no cargo and with minimal shields returning to sell data. As an explorer (contrary to the passive aggressive gung ho posted prior)- doesn't mean I'm a crybaby carebear if the sole purpose of my existence is NOT to murder, aggrevate, humiliate and plunder- simulated or real-world. I think it's only fair to expect that this simple principle and condition is reciprocated at least in a game environment that I choose to invest in and play- hard earned time and money etc playing a game that finally allows you to do that (as oppose to the several other games ppl have mentioned here that these sociopaths could go and ruin) ...I realise that each to their own however and ppl will be ppl and as such the fundamental majority you shouldn't trust (certainly with the ability to ruin the significant aforementioned investments) which is again why-
I'll never play 'open',
My trust in other ppl/players?: =COMPROMISED
(apart from my wing).

Anyhow Frontier- glad to hear it (and indeed hit 'em hard where it hurts (WALLET/Game account!) keep up the awesome work

We have the right to peacefully protest...
And blowing up internet space ships to show our discontent with you is nothing compared to the fact we could be in front of your office verbally assaulting you
to quote a great comedian "HARDEN THE      UP FRONTIER!"

Sometimes I take for granted the fact that it may just seem common knowledge, but for those that aren't aware of the 'landscape' of our galaxy... as a general rule, if you want PvP action... go to a CG in open. If you don't want PvP action... don't go to a CG in open.

Now I fully understand that unprovoked attacks happen elsewhere as well such as the starter systems and Engineer bases, but if you want to actually participate in a CG productively, avoid open.

Now with that said, I am a strong proponent of open play and, of course, accept the inherent risks of the good and the bad that comes with it. I would encourage everyone to play in open and actually take the time to learn how to survive in a dangerous environment. It really adds an element of excitement and realism while at the same time allowing you to grow as a pilot.

Also joining one of the several existing player groups can really make a big difference in your overall experience, I would highly recommend finding a good group of commanders that share your ideals and views...

Fly safe!

Oh man, I think I'd ragequit forever if I was murdered for absolutely no reason in my defenceless, shieldless explorer after a 100+ hour exploration lap of the galaxy.

Piracy is one thing, but role playing a pirate means you want something - There should be no reason or purpose in attacking empty-handed worthless targets.

Role playing a psychopathic terrorist should also be allowed, but not if you can go about your business of terror completely unrestricted; At present the very binary wanted/clean system means that the person at fault in a fatal accident is lumped in to the same category as Adolf Hitler, responsible for something like 45 million people. In Elite: Dangerous terms, that means that the Feds pay no more attention to CMDR PsychoMurderRampage with 1000 player murders and rebuys to their name, than they do to CMDR Clumsy who accidentally boosted into someone trying to dock.

If you want to play a terrorist, that's fine - it's obviously something that should be added to the game, but at present the game isn't complete enough to have an anti-terror mechanism that makes it a viable choice. Until that in-game mechanism is in place, terrorism is not condoned by FD and harassment/terror is something that you are asked by extra-game terms and conditions to abide by as part of the service FD are providing to everyone, not just you.

Just do private groups. Me and my friends have a great time. Why add unnecessary stress? The risks should be obvious. Open play = open season.

Does something special happen only in open play?

Hi everyone,

In light of recent issues relating to the way a small collective of players have been approaching and targeting specific private groups and other community events such as charity livestreams, we wanted to reinforce an important part of the existing rules regarding in-game harassment that every player agrees to when creating their account.

We wanted to reiterate some examples regarding the rules of Player harassment. If a player has been blocked from a private group, or a group/individual has taken every step possible to remove a player from their gameplay, then attempting to circumvent this in any fashion is a serious offense and action will be taken accordingly. Attempting to re-establish contact with an individual who has blocked a player through secondary accounts or other methods of attempting to evade the block are against the rules. Action can and will be taken against both the accounts in question and the main accounts of players that we deem to be harassing players through this method.

In addition taking action such as seeking out and targeting specific players purely for the purpose of being disruptive, to cause offence, or to upset players within the community can also be considered harassment. A perfect example of this is deliberately attempting to disrupt public livestreams such as the charity ones mentioned before. This includes, but is not limited to, the capturing of footage and releasing it publically in an attempt to create upset or gain notoriety through the actions listed above.

We have previously stated, and it remains true, that Frontier are not able to manage group specific rules. Players considered to be breaking these group rule sets as established by group moderators should be removed from those groups by said moderators. In addition, running a livestream in Open does invite the potential for players to approach and impact your gameplay and running a livestream in which you are declaring war on another group and they come and take action against you is reasonable and should be expected.

Ultimately it’s about context. The support team can and will review these kinds of offences and will be taking action against accounts that set their entire purpose on harassing players and groups in this way. They are currently investigating a number of incidents and will be dealing directly with any parties involved.

The Frontier Support team take the protection and safety of the community very seriously, they strive to ensure that the game remains fair and friendly. If you feel the need to report an incident, please do get in contact with support via our support site at https://support.frontier.co.uk - please include as much detail of the event as possible.

You can see a copy of the rules that everyone signs up to by creating an account, including harassment, here:
https://www.frontierstore.net/ed-eula/

Thanks for reading.

I find this kind of thing dangerous. The old `harassment` buzzwording. `Harassment` is used for everything now from not liking a word to someone shooting their own friends. Very snowflake generation type attitude. If you can`t hanle MP, don`t do MP. You can`t successfully control MP and have an enjoyable game.

The only way to curb people who may try and spoil your game is to make it more `adult`, ie make it more realistic, like the realistic flight sims. they bring a more mature crowd and griefing or `harassment` almost never happens because most of these people don`t have the time or patience to even play the game in the first place. Stuff like this makes me begin to wish I`d never bought the game.

Now I only do Solo because (I`m sick of griefers and idiots from other games), but I would not curb them from it with artiificial Daddy State type action.

Happy New Year, everyone!
