Surface Installation Scan Missions Bugged?

I'm at the datapoint in my SRV, it's selected, my datalink scanner is assigned as the secondary on my fire group, I have a button on my HOTAS assigned to secondary weapon, but when I fire it, the datalink scanner does nothing.

What am I missing?

Hard to tell from the screenshot, and it's been a couple of days since I did one (not that I am a veteran of them), but it looks like you do not have the datapoint targeted or selected?
Know my screen looks different when I get ready to scan.

Well, I found it. You have to deploy your turret and then you can scan. Not obvious since all the other scans I did on a surface were done while in the SRV :/

lol, yes, I was about to write that. It irritates me too. Especially if you start scanning before the data point extends - the scanner works, and then stops when the beacon gets too high.

Though surface scan missions are bugged. They've been that way for a long time. You can complete all your scan missions at one location, no matter where the actual destination was supposed to be.

SRV weapons and scanners only have a limited arc while in the normal 'driving' view. If the tower rises beyond that you need to use the turret view, or back away a little if you can. I believe it's always been that way.
