This is just a fun idea I had while planning some piracy in a RES. The Surveillance Limpet Controller would deploy limpets as probes for the player, allowing the player to place a limited number dependent on module class/size. Each limpet would have certain detection radius, based on grade. This would mean that you could cover a RES, Nav Beacon, or similar area with detectors if you have the patience to do so, and keep track of most ships in the instance - which can still be hard to do even with Grade A, G5 Long Range sensors.
I would specifically use this in a RES when trying to find a miner to target - the timer starts ticking on a police response once you commit any crime, so making a good pick and tracking all potential targets in the area is important.
