Switching to Odysee. Maybe...

So - if I'm missing something about Odyssey I'd really appreciate knowing what it is.

I have a main CMDR on Odyssey and an Epic alt CMDR on Horizons, so occasionally I go through spells of play where I am switching between the versions. I find I prefer the lighting, the graphics generally and the GUI / galaxy map etc in Odyssey before even considering what Odyssey-specific game play adds or detracts. Each to their own though.

You like bounty hunting and assassinations? Then Odyssey should be for you. Locate, identify, stalk and shoot the target (one shot preferred) and exfiltrate. Build close and long range assassination weapons, something for close range, and something for long. An Executioner with scope and audio masking gives lots of satisfaction in taking down distant targets.

Not that I own such a weapon ....

I love that - I mean that type of mission you describe is just about my favorite thing to do. Can you say kill from a distance? After all why get yur hands dirty if ya don't have to. Mucho fun taking down a super mutant from so far away he's barely a few mils high in yur scope and watchin' his confused bud runnin' around like chickens with their heads cut off.


Can you say Sniper Elite 4, Ghost Warrior 1,2,3 and 4, Fallout 4, Skyrim. Sniper man all the way. Sneakin' around with no one noticin' ya. Are you sayin' that one can do that in Odysey? I can feel myself tipping over and fallin' off the fence...

I went to a system to get allied with all the factions. SO much easier in Horizons. Fast and efficient than the fancy graphics in Odyssey. After getting allied with all the factions I went to Odyssey to get much higher paying on-foot missions. It works.

The range of foot weapons seems to be limited in some way so effective range is much shorter than other FPS titles.
You can certainly sneak about in EDO. Ydiss(Steathboy) did a set of videos about it.

Most use the Executioner for sniping though personally I tend to use an upgraded AR50.

That's exactly what I found myself ending up doing in Odyssey: stealth sniper style. Mav suit, audio silenced Exec, suppressed Tormentor, all G5. Holds up in low to mid CZ as well.

It may be time for me to take the leap and move on to Odyssey. But I have a general question before I pull the switch.

I have 9 or 10 - I forget - ships in my fleet. Weapons, shields, FSD, Fuel Scoops and anything else that can be upgraded (except thrusters - not going down that grind road so only grade 3 for them) have been upgraded to grade 5. Took a lot of time and money to get there.

So - if I don't upgrade to Odyssey level engineering standards am I gonna be completely outclassed with my Horizons level stuff. If so how much of a grind is it gonna be to bring my self up to spec (I hate mining, HATE IT)? Not gonna do the guardian stuff regardless but... if I won't be able to compete I may just have to grit my teeth and tackle the task.

The lack of information/misinformation about EDO on the part of EDH players always strikes me... I would suspect too much YT watching...
