System Map is now LETHALLY SLOW.

It can take up to 30 seconds for me but it generally about 10. Its my single biggest issue with the game and its been life (well ship) threateningly slow on occasion, when I've missed the key I meant and opened it in combat.

My system map tends to take 5-10 seconds to load up. While not exactly lethal, it is rather annoying. Galaxy map opens in less than 5 seconds pretty much always. Thanks for that, at least.

Sometimes the system map hangs up for 30 seconds or more, often this predicts incoming server problems and unrecoverable errors with transaction server.

EDIT: If we can't have a fast-loading system map, at least give us the option to 'abort loading system map' by pressing escape (or something remappable, whatever)

Just like the bulletin board the system map has become slower and slower for me during 2015, while my rig got significantly faster (better quadcore, better ssd, much more ram). I'm usually "must be all the new players and FDs servers just can't keep up" about it.

definately taking longer than it used....it's making the game a pain in the :):):):)

and what are the corona's and white out's that now appear since Horizons update that mean one has to close the map and reopen to exacerbate the problem

Like others have suggested the system map should be loaded in the back ground probably when you have initialised the fsd to that system and can catch up with the discovered data as it goes. First thing I do on a jump is throttle off so no drifting in on arrival toggle off my scoop before jump so heat damage is limited I plan my jumps so I know what the next star types are on the systems I jump to soon learnt that after getting spanked by a white dwarf.

The map to me is 2d so drawing time should be minimal the game can handle the chaos in a high conflict zone well enough on my old system but can't handle a bit of data to plot a map without delay seems odd is the map data sent over a slow port ie deliberately down the priority list?

The galaxy map is slow for me but that has more info to handle so can understand that.

The system map should be lightning quick.

The Galaxy Map generally opens up (fairly) fast for me, but its performance after that is very slow. It takes ages to generate the potential route-lines, and while it's doing so, selecting new systems is extremely hit-and-miss. It can easily be 30 seconds or more before I can reliably mouseover a system and get its information to pop up.

Out of curiosity, is this in the human bubble / other sparse star density area, or are you closer to the central parts of the galaxy?

Both. I've had the issue consistently in 2.0, whether I was bounty-hunting in civilised space, or on an exploration jaunt 5000LY corewards.

No problem here :D
my system map opens in 1-3 sec and galaxy map almost instant, i think is something wrong on yr end, maybe

As i recall the problem actually started somewhere around 1.4. I remember pre-1.4 it was quite fast always to open the map. Then somewhere about beta of 1.4 both galactic map and system map got slower and slower. It then cleared up a bit, but never returned to the previous speed it was in 1.3.

And of course, from posts here and in the poll thread about this, its clear for some people this is still a serious problem.

Exactly this. 1.4 dropped while I was in the core and has never recovered. It's not just the load time, but the textures on the system view often take ages to fully render.

I used to be able to do the old, honk, scoop, jump, quick system check to see if there's anything of interest, if no, close system map and jump, if yes close system map and cancel jump.

Last night I particularly noticed I barely have time to flick the mouse over the bodies before I'm chucked out as I jump.

Maybe I should raise a ticket? (i7/2x GTX970s*/16Gb RAM/Win7/fibre/Horizons)

* Not in SLI as that caused a weird blue flickering... But IIRC SLi doesn't work too well....

Advice? o7

Same here. After 1.4, system map needs min 30++ secs to open. No fun. At all. Ridiculous to check the map while in supercruise.

Agree

Please FDev, do something about system map. At least so that when you have opened it once, the data is stored in the memory (somehow) so that if I want to open it again it goes fast. Why can't the system map start loading in the background as soon as you enter a system, so that when you take it up it has already loaded for a while?

Yes. At least make it load fast after it has already been opened for that system. Have it preload would be great if it does not reduce performance.

It really should load/render and cache it during the useless 5..4..3..2..1..Engage countdown, or during the hyperspace waitscreen, then it would be fairly instant once requested for real.

I would love to have the option to cancel the loading. That way I am at least not completly helpless while waiting for that darn thing to open

I have noticed that it does seem to take quite a while to load, especially for systems where no one else has been, almost like it has to wait for the system data to generate on the server side first.

Works well enough for me - but I think the idea of loading the maps during hyperspace jump is a seriously good one.

Yeah, but then people would just complain even more about how long jumps take. If you're racing along somewhere, what the majority seem to be doing (look at the jump range complaint threads), you don't need the system map data anyway.

Dumb question maybe, but why are you guys overheating near stars. I've covered 8 kylies over the last week following my usual "jump in, honk, start refuelling, scan the star & look at the sysmap" routine. The map does take longer to open now, usually 5-10 seconds for me, but I can happily sit in front of the star reading the system contents for ages with no problem.

What gives?
