Yup. Realized it afterwards and explanation added now. Direct translation can be said also in positive meaning in Finnish. :)
In Finnish we also have multiple meanings for lots of phrases and sayings, so not the easiest of languages to get translated correctly..

EDIT: I have never actually thought that "good riddance" is a negative phrase, since there is "good" in that phrase.. :D

Think of it as saying "good to be rid of you".

I think that might explain people's reactions.

Well, good riddance then, Jackie. I expected more from you.

EDIT: (good riddance is equivalent to "so long/goodbye" in my native language, not meant as harmful or nasty way)

+1 Cmdr and apologies for responding in the manner I did; as others have explained, 'good riddance' has an extremely negative connotation in English hence my surprised (disappointed even) reaction.

See you out in the black sometime...

No worries Cmdr. My apologies for not googling stuff before using fancy phrases..

The fuller version of the phrase is "good riddance to bad rubbish" which explains why it is "good" and also why it is not something you would say about someone you like!

Are people really "flouncing" after this has been in beta for literally 5 minutes? Not only can explorers have the chance to feedback to the dev team, (hence the beta), but it could well be a case of getting used to it. Madness.

Well, this turned out to be an english lesson for me, so lets start over..

So long Jackie, i hope to see you back in Elite soon(tm) although you now feel disappointed. As i said, i did expect more of you though, after all the work you have done for exploration.
I always felt that you are so deep in exploration that this change wouldnt have any affect on you. On that regard, i was surprisingly wrong and now, bit disappointed.. :(

Was my priviledge circumnavigate the galaxy with you and i truly hope we can do it again some day.. :)

Fly safe. (when ever that will be..)

Why are you assuming that people only tried it out for "literally 5 minutes"? How can you tell?

Personally, I think I've spent something like 5-8 hours with it by now. My initial opinion of it hasn't changed much. I just see that I could get somewhat used to it, but I don't see why I should put up with having less fun unless there's something significantly new and interesting (to me) to be found out there. We'll see that after release. The quality of content doesn't change the quality of the mechanics though.

Sorry to see you go … hopefully the post-BETA update will address some of the issues that people have been talking about and you can be tempted back !!

Personally, I'm liking how it is *so* much easier to find planet based POIs. No more hunting around for blue dots, only to find it's some rock formation.

I found my first fumarole (actually a planet full of them!!) yesterday which was quite exciting.

I think the overall solution (which has been suggested elsewhere) might be:-

(1) to re-instate the old ADS honk so it brings up the system "layout".
(2) then use the FSS to perform what the old DSS did (i.e. tell you the chemical make-up of the planet) plus any POIs there might be.
(3) finally, if you want, you can fly to the planet and use the new DSS probe scanning for more detailed info / POI location / etc.

That way, explorers looking for interesting system layouts are catered for.
People who want to scan entire system can do so much quicker (using the FSS)
And if you're hunting POIs or want to map every planet, you can still do that.

Just my £0.02

EDIT: I feel i also have to add that in my language "good riddance" doesnt mean that you are glad to get rid of someone. That is definitely not the case here, im far from glad Jackie is gone.

That's a good clarification. Where I'm from, it's similar to saying "Get out now, never return, and you will not be missed."

The "good to be rid of you" explanation is also a good one.

I could go for something like that. I would like the honk scan to give me some clue as to what's there - for example, tell me how many of each type of planet there are - icy, rocky, gas etc. - but at a very basic level, rather than just "grey blob, here be planet". Or, if it just gives grey blobs, then indicate planet size. Frankly, any planet that is close enough to the jump-in point to appear as a planet rather than a point of light ought to be revealed in more detail. It doesn't make sense to be parked right next to a large, ringed, clearly landable rocky planet that only appears on the "map" as a blob.

I'd even suggest that the payout for the basic honk scan should be very much reduced, with significant payouts only happening with the DSS probe/scan.

Honestly though, good riddance. If all you want from exploration is to honk and immediately see everything in the system then don't let the door hit you on the way out. The new FSS&probe mechanic isn't perfect (I'd like to be able to see at least how many signals were detected from the cockpit without throttling down) but it makes it painfully obvious how the previous mechanics were a simple placeholder. So if a placeholder is all you want from exploration, then go find a game you'll like better because the telescope and probe mechanic is exactly what I've been waiting for since I picked up the game Jan 3301.

Dont know the OP from eve so to speak but by all accounts they have done more for the game and its community than most. Fly safe o7.

How To Win Friends And Influence People - Dale Carnegie

I've heard tell that's a good read for some.

Yes I'm somewhat nervous how it will go, but in the same breath I give kudos to FD for addressing what was becoming a slowly, but surely dull event of exploration. Mapping for mapping's sake is where I got to before coming back to the bubble for a breather.

Let's see. I've not tried Beta, will await the release. I've been playing Elite for quite some time now though and it's perhaps time to think about other games soon.
