Most prolific system taggers, yes. but explorers hmmm? to be honest until this update what we considered to be exploration in the past was a bit of an illusion since there really wasn't anything to it that deserved the name 'exploration'--- just jump to a system that you never even had to discover in the first place, press honk, and point your ship at something, and you're done. THAT was "exploration" in a nutshell. Now that the game is no longer simple mode and has discovery gameplay and is more involved and interactive, and has a bit of skill involved, i'm not surprised to see people who liked the simplistic tag-all approach leave. the best explorers this game will ever see will be born out of this update.

Now you just jump to a system you never even had to discover in the first place, press honk, and point your scanner at something, and you're done. THIS is "exploration" in a nutshell. Now the game is more fiddly with the pointing and has something disguised as gameplay which is more convoluted and opaque, and has no more intellectual skill involved.

Real(tm) explorers that care about using skill and really discovering things won't even put a no-skill FSS on their ship. They'll use parallax to discover bodies like real astronomers and fly over and claim them by mapping them with the DSS. Yes, I tried this... it works, you get detailed scan and surface scan credit when you sell the data. I will say that it was a bit weird working with a stealth planet.

Oh my what a lot of posts...
I didn't like the honk and tag approach
I haven't seen beta
They may be great but some iconic explorers seem to want to grab all the hard to reach and interesting bodies and don't even leave a single moon for anyone else, boo to that.
Maybe this will open up the galaxy for new explorers and new tales of daring do can be written.
If there is anything left out there? (joke)
PS anaconda needs a nerf and more combined slots needed on asp, can't even take 2srv any more.
Well done jaky sillvier, good luck with you travels
Your name is emblazoned on the galaxy forever
Well as long as the server electricity bill is paid
Now let's keep dancing...

Unfortunately the new system encourages that even more. Since you can't see a system map until you've done the FSS - which gives you the first discovered tag. If want to see how the whole system looks, you have no choice but to tag the whole thing. The map tag may be used to have multiple tags per system - so far I only noticed those in the FSS zoom in page.

It's sad to see the legendary explorers leave. I wish them all well and remind them that the Universe upon which Elite Dangerous is based, is for the most part unsullied by any ego or human intention, and will be that way for a very, very long time. The Stellar Forge is gorgeous but compared to the Real Thing? insignificant at best. So although you may be away from your monitors, I do hope that your awareness will never let you forget the immensity and majesty of your actual home, the Milky Way!

I have seen the System map with multiple tags in Beta. But as you say, if you want to see the full system with orbits etc then you'll have to FSS scan all. One system i was in yesterday had 3 different names against various bodies and a fourth as having mapped those bodies (via the FSS zoomed in view).

I also need to check some systems as a we scanned and mapped some when Winged Up, so I wonder if the multi-name tags are still working.

I'm going to wait til the changes go live and then see how I feel. I'm a bit skeptical of the extra work/time involved but at least there's some actual exploring to be done now. What I'm not sure of is the whole "we don't know whether it's worth exploring in more detail before we explore it in more detail" thing, but I guess that *is* the whole point of actually, y'know, *exploring* - a lot of time you'll just have to spend time to figure out what's there, and more often that not it may not be that interesting. That said, they may be adding a lot of things that make those formerly "boring" systems worth checking out. I think it's very premature to abandon ship right now before we see how this is really going to pan out.

Some of you will have seen me conspicuously present in-game this last week or so. I've been taking things on board and I've managed to get some motivation back.

Thanks to everyone who has commented here, you've made me think for long enough to get over my initial knee-jerk reaction.

Jeez, make up your sodding mind!!!!! ;)
Welcome back Jackie, I'm waiting for the update to drop and will assess impact, make any adjustment or decision then..

Nice, Jackie. I just hope FDevs will take in consideration how many Explorers love so much this game.
Don't disappoint them !

Cool - I know I (and others) raged at first, but have now come around. Hope you add to the numbers ;)

No manipulations from this old space trucker, just the same thing I inferred if didn't say outright all through DECE: You do you.

Just know if you are in game, even briefly, there's a family ready to stand at your side any time you need it.

Fly safe, and I hope to see you on the other side.

Didn't doubt that for a second. ;)

Good to see that you're (possibly?) coming back. :)

I can totally understand that knee-jerk reaction. I get it almost every time there's an update, and I left Elite for almost 2 months a while back. Much needed rest.

I have to say it doesn't excite me much, it's all good having a new way to find things, doesn't matter if the things aren't very interesting...

Mining looks good though
