Taking screenshots while in the oculus rift . Help.

Currently I am exploring and have had several oh my god moments while using the rift Every time I take a screen shot using f10 or alt f10 the screenshots look like crap because of the stereoscopic 3d required for the rift. Anyone find a good way to take screenshots that look good while using the rift? Thanks in advance.

My solution has become to just take a short video using the second window thing and grab screeners from that. If you want to know how to set all that up, I have a guide on my channel, see the sig. or its linked 21st the top of the compendium also in my sig

This is the only thing I miss from my flat monitor playing days - the awesome screenshots I used to collect and share on the forums. Really don't want to stress my system more with a second window running though, as I'm already stretching things running DSR. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon so us happysnappers are made happy again

Second window looks just like the rift anyway. It wouldnt' help you. I run mirrored all the time so people can see what I see. The game doesn't have the ability to run 2 parallel 3d renders for the rift, and a 3rd 2D render for another monitor. Doesn't exist.

OP, screenshots in the rift will likely always look like they do. If you have somewhere you're going where you know you will want a screenshot... or maybe your you want one of your new ship, just run on a monitor for 10 minutes and get your shots.. then reload the game back into the rift. I do it often.

If you run the second window in 1920 x 2160 and you set OBS to take video of the middle 1080p rectangle of it you get 1080p "videolets" you can take at any time and grab a screenshot of, which should look roughly the same as the desktop users' equivalent.

You need a good rig tho, but it's theoretically possible. I've made a few vids like that (see this for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01GyyXR4UPE - taken in the rift)

I settle for 720p screenshots and video

You can take screenshots with F10, convert them to JPG (you can use paint) and use this to unwarp them. Note that BMP or PNG do not work with this. You can make it only output the left eye or both, in either case the picture is fairly low resolution (960x1080).
