Talking about sound effects.

Yeah, I observed the same and already I ticketed it.

Are you by chance using Realtek HD in Stereo mode? Some games have improper mixing levels when running stereo for a 5.1 game. For example you can set it to 5.1 even when using stereo to resolve mixing levels problems and also gain better separation.

I had the same impression as the OP of the acceleration/deceleration sounds in the early alpha. But now I can see it's just because those are all in a sidewinder. It's a very small ship and the sound works for it. Bigger vessels sound different and as they should.

Nope, I am using a Sennheiser USB headset connector with integrated soundcard, and all other games, apps etc. work just fine. It appears just as if the 100% mark in ED's volume sliders produce an effective volume where with the very same system settings other games are at 50-75%.

I have seen simular issue on Realtek but the fix was to run in 5.1 even for stereo. Skyrim has this problem as do a few other games but most don't. I think it has to do with the 5.1 native games on certain speaker configs. Is it a 5.1 headset or just stereo?

Just stereo, I usually have boxes plugged into the connector instead of the actual headset but those are regular stereo, too.

I think the sound effects are pretty good and on par with something in its infancy. Some of the effects are great such as 'pod racing' effect that Adept mentions when ships skim past each other. However, there are some effect that I hope are only every going to be fillers, such as the rain and thunder effects in hyper space / super-cruise... Not so great. For me, immersion breaking. I keep looking toward the window and wondering if it's going to rain.

I'd like more stuff that has a classic movie feel rtaher than a game feel. Epic memorable sound.

Here's an example of the kind of sounds I'd like to hear in super-cruise.

Have a listen and then compare it to what we hear in the Alpha.

A very short clip.

Radio 4 & 2 and the BBC sound archives might be worth a visit.

Actually that's a very good idea. How about a speech synthesized Shipping Forecast available in stations that warns freighters about solar activity, micrometeoroid showers, piracy and Thargoid activity in the neighbouring systems.

slightly different to the sound fx of the ships and engines. What I would like to see is more variation in the station language voices.

Everything that i have seen/heard so far is in English how about having station messages repeated in other languages for a bit of variety? Or is that a silly idea?

The sound design is instantly and stunningly brilliant, In fact I would disagree in the strongest terms imaginable (and do in fact with regards to the engine sounds) if it wasn't for the fact that I find the cockpit damage sound effects a bit weird.

Well if you do have a stereo speaker setup on 5.1 hardware you can usually remedy this problem by selecting the 5.1 output and just selecting the 2 front speakers. Problem does seem related to 5.1 design on stereo speaker configs though. Glad you guys submitted tickets on it though.

I like that idea, having kipped at far too many airports in my time I think I could repeat most of the phrases to do with offloading baggage and closing gates in several languages in my sleep.

I'm pretty sure I heard some of the space port voices using a Dutch accent in some of the Alpha 4 vids, maybe that's as close as we get.

Mt only problem with the sound is only something I've seen in vids since I'm a PB backer.

When you switch on and off flight assist, it gets a little grating that it's vocalized every time, no? I understand that you certainly want to know whether or not it's active, but there must be a better way.

A light on the hud? A light on the panel? Both of which accompanied by a more subtle audio cue, like a 'ding' or 'beep.'

Sorry if this has been brought up already, (I'm sure it has.)

I really like the sound design so far. A quick question regarding the simulated sound in space - Does it stop when the canopy breaks? Because it totally should if not. You should only be able to hear yourself, the computer and vibrations from your ship.

You think of Thargoids, of course ?
