Newcomer / Intro Targeting And Identifying Raw Mats on Foot

I can shoot the raw mat with my pistol and dislodge it for SRV pickup. Excellent. Handy for the tough to shoot rocks.

Is there any method to target and identify the dislodged rock without getting back into my SRV?

Not that I'm aware of.

They may appear on the contacts menu on-foot. Open the Insight Hub wheel and go to the left panel, and then up two. I believe that's contacts. If it doesn't show up there, it probably won't show up at all on-foot.
