Teamspeak3 for Dummies Guide - Secrets Revealed

Teamspeak3 for Dummies Guide - Secrets Revealed

Approximately 23 pages of non-stop heart pounding action & adventure..
6 meg download .pdf file.. (when downloading - MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE you avoid the extra pop-up download managers or other pop-windows.. close those and look for the standard button to save-as across the bottom of your screen- it will appear inside the long yellow rectangle on Windows 7)

Ok, well of course there are some pretty pictures included inside as well as a short novel on how to use Teamspeak3 to build up your flight group using never before revealed secrets of the author -

Written in the standard "FOR DUMMIES" easy to read and digest language.. (As long as you don't try eating it actually.. just reading it)

Take a close look at the pics and you will see some names you already recognize from the Elite Dangerous forums..

Do you know if there is any ingame overlay for Teamspeak, Ventrillo or Mumble that also enables you to type in the TS chat channel? E.g. use TS as a ingame chat channel.
AFAIK ED will have really bad social features, no chat channels, so you would have to alt-tab to communicate with your team members if you don't want to talk all the time. I'm one of those who likes to chat or joke a bit in guild chat but don't want to listen to people all the time.

PS: Thanks for posting this guide, really nice of you :)

I have had a request for this thread to be a sticky. With the upcoming multi-player ED Alpha soon to be upon us, I agree. The info here could be a help for some of you out there. Thread is stuck. :)

Maybe if Elite gets overwolf support, then you could use its IRC or chat modules...

It's a good guide, and covers one voice communication system very well at the start. It also covers one way of running ops in server very well too. Not that I disagree with anything majorly, just not a fan on the tone of voice it is written in. That's a personal thing though, all the substantive points are covered.

It also reads somewhat as an advertisement/instructions for a particular guild or group of players. It's tough to organise people who don't want to be organised, so anything that can get people singing off the same sheet is a good idea. Just ironic that it has to be done in writing ;-)

So yeah, good guide, not everyone's cup of tea, but certainly not a bad read for anyone interested, but not experienced with, co-op play with groups of other players connected by voice comms, especially TS3.

As one poster said, try out the Overwolf program which is automatically included when you install Teamspeak3.

However, overlays are sometimes intrusive because they can position themselves directly over a particular region of your screen, and some can or cannot be moved afterwards. They may block visuals in certain critical moments of aiming or reading a game warning such as "taking damage" or "engine failure"..

My solution is to use a multiple panel of displays as seen here..
I can move mouse to any window and click chat inside Teamspeak3 as well as monitor who is logging in and out, who is speaking (blue light turns on)

So.. I don't use overlays. Multiple monitor setup is run on Nvidia 660Ti..

Overwolf is not the overlay system.

Overwolf is like a media manager type thing for taking screenshots and other nonsense. TS3Overlay is the overlay thing you're looking for and it's one of the plugins that comes with TS3.

I use it in World Of Warcraft. With WoW's normal font installed in your Windows font folder, you wouldn't know it wasn't part of the WoW interface. (It's just a list of names of the people in the same TS3 room as you're in, and the one currently speaking goes "bold".

Of all the Voice Comms systems I've used, it's the easiest for people to set up (especially the voice detection).

Mumble comes in a close second, and has the added benefit of being able to run on a Raspberry Pi (TS3 can run on one too, but that requires emulation). 75k per second per person listening is the upload speed you'll need to support this if you consider it (I've done it and it works well almost no load on the Pi).

Other voice comms that I've used:

TS3>Mumble>Ventrilo>Raidcall>Skype>X-Fire>Steam

Razer do a version, but I've never used it.

Invest in a headset (even a dirt-cheap one would be better than sounding like you're mile from the mike at the bottom of a well, and causing feedback). I saw one for sale for £3 from the local discount shop. Maplin's budget ones are probably better. I got a Creative Fatality set for about £35, but you could probably spend ten times that on noise-cancelling branded ones. Whatever you can justify spending on them really. I'd avoid USB ones, as people (in my experience) seem to have had a few problems (plural of "anecdote" is "data"?).

Congats to Valiant432 - he gets the first free 100 credits... he spotted two separate pages with typos and I have now updated the main post with new version..

I got tsnotifier working in Elite Dangerous now..
http://tsnotifier.cfxxl.de/

They have instructions on their site,. and I don't have time right now to add photos of the process or make a guide..

1. install it.
2. run it.
3. run the game, shut the game down again. (this identifies the game to the file you need to edit next..)
4. right click on systray, choose tsnotifier icon, choose edit gamesettings.ini..
5. change elitedangerous.exe=0 to elitedangerous.exe=1 (only change the zero)
6. do NOT change the elitelauncher.exe=0 (leave this one alone)..
7. save file and close..
8. open ts3/setting/plugin menus... make sure Tsnotifier Helper Plugin is checked on.
9. Log in to your favorite teamspeak server with people to test..
10. start the game..
11. go back to systray anytime you want to change the look feel, or position of the overlay settings.. look at the other options..
