TERRA VELASQUEZ

Yeah, progress on engineers is still fracked up beyond all recognition after patch 5. I'm sitting at 7 covert thefts and 6 covert heists now, and still no invitation. Also, there is still no clue if it should be 6 for each, 6 in total, from terminal or giver, and also no progress indicator, which would make this bug somewhat bearable and at least debug-able. Ridiculous indeed. sigh

I'm sick of covert missions, they are not even a challenge anymore, this only disrespects my time. I'll head out into the black with EDH now to visit those old wonders a last time before the game ends them for good. Perhaps this problem is fixed after that, but I won't hold my breath.

6 Total
Apparently some Thefts are not properly counted.
Also check Inara and see if the missions are counted as finished and not expired

Your help is appreciated, but I think this is wrong. We don't know for sure that it should only be 6 in total, because what I have seen yet are contradicting statements from FDev in this regards. We also don't know for sure if the Inara-expired theory is true. I have checked, and now I am at 7 thefts/heist that show up as completed there, so I should be good. I do not have 6 completed heists there, but as I wrote before, I am not FDev's QA employee to test every obscure combination to see what probably works and what not.

If anything, the Inara-expired thing is some bug which should be fixed ASAP. There was no reason for any of the missions I did to not count properly, after all the game itself gave me the mission rewards when handing it in. We also don't know if the Inara-expired thing isn't just some kind of Inara bug to begin with, which certainly won't affect the game. It is all speculation on our side.

Engineer progress is bugged, this is a fact. It is not working as intended. Heck, we don't even know how it should work exactly to begin with, but certainly not as it is now. Why is there no clear comment from FDev on this problem? Is it so hard to explain how the various engineer unlock should work? Do they not know it themselves?!?

This was Zac's understanding of the unlocks. Apparently Customer Service has been told it's different; we don't know for certain who is right.

We also don't know for sure if the Inara-expired theory is true.

Maybe you don't know that, but I do.

It's been the general experience that you can't count on any Covert Thefts counting, but six Covert Heists seem to do the trick.

Given the notice that Covert Thefts weren’t being counted 100% of the time, I ignored them from that point on. I had just started this so I had 1 c. Theft and 1 c. Heist. I did 5 more c. Heists and got the unlock email without restarting. I did have to restart for the engineer on to show up on my map but that’s another issue.
It is definitely 6 Covert Heists to unlock. It likely should be 6 of either/or mixed but with the thefts not counting you just have to do the heists.
One more weird thing I noticed after update 5, but may have been luck rather than a bug: I wound up in firefights in 3 different missions before I could turn off the alarm and in each case I went quickly to the console and disabled it (each time within 20-30 seconds of exchanging gunfire, and calls for backup) and the alarms didn’t go off. I was able to continue the mission despite what I thought was certain failure. Does an NPC have to be at the console to trigger the alarm? Was I lucky and disabled it just in time? I don’t know.

edit: I love the heist missions by the way. Best fun in the game for me.

Zac is right.
I unlocked Terra with 7 Covert Theft and 3 Covert Heist. Definitely not 12
I did them like 4 CT, 1 CH, 1 CT, 2 Ct, 2 CH

Definitely some Covert Thefts were not counted
Well, it can't be only that. For me, obviously heists are also not counting. So it is back to being completely arbitrary. As of now I have a total of 13 missions, with at least 6 of both kind. It still is not working. Perhaps Inara shows those that are not working, perhaps not, because there I have a total of 7 showing as completed. Something is definitely borked and not working as it should. Now even the mission completion is an RND grind, as it seems.

Just handed in my 6th covert heist and lo and behold:

It does seem like the covert thefts didn't count as far as my own experience goes.

Also, holy , I wasn't sure if I could complete this because as soon as I got the sample containment unit, after sneaking into the power plant to shut off the alarms beforehand, the container's panel was off and couldn't be interacted with, so I had to quit to main menu and do it all again, but second time it was operational. It was made even worse that both times the tiny ass reactor room (it was the small single room reactor building) had not one but two NPCs, so I really had to time it well to get to the console without being seen. Both times one of them noticed me right after I shut off the alarms, but thankfully I managed to run the out really fast, heart thumping in ears and all. The window when they're both occupied comically small. Anyways, hella worth it and thrilling.

Also again highlighting this massive stuttering issue after update 5 for Zac, or anyone else at Frontier, which I hope gets fixed pretty soon: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/39887

Do they appear as completed on Inara?
Cause i had a couple of Covert missions that, even tho i completed them successfully, they appeared on Inara as Expired
Yes, unfortunately. As stated in my other post, I went back and checked them and there are 6 cover heist and 7 covert theft that should completed in INARA.

Edited:
7 covert heists and 7 covert thefts completed after unlocking Terra, only taking missions from the mission board, only turning them in on foot, and verfied on INARA...I need a drink.

Voted. This happens to me constantly since patch 5, it's nasty.

I seem to get it on some settlements, probably over 50% of the time, but not always. It's pretty bad when it does happen, though. It was...interesting trying to do an on-foot conflict zone with randomly freezing for a couple of seconds. o_O

"Constantly" was an exaggeration, I admit. It's a lot of the time, enough that it's very noticeable (and was instantly so).

The complete lack of covert heists seems to be the major bottleneck for me. Everywhere I go I see covert thefts and regular heists but covert heists?...nope. And, of course since covert thefts don't seem to count, well, that leaves the seemingly nonexistent covert heists. The brokenness of this game is beyond frustrating.

I swear they are laughing at us fools really trying to give this broken pile of excrement a go up in their executive board rooms.

"Social Experiment" and we are the Hamsters.

Covert thefts do count though, just not always.

I got access to TV after I did a theft, not a heist (I'd already done 6 heists though so no idea what on earth is going on with this). I saw lots of heists and then couldn't find thefts. It's just RNG. But I think some thefts are working so if you only see thefts... I say just do them. It'll work eventually. The only thing we can be 100% certain of is if you don't do any missions then you definitely won't unlock TV. I unlocked her after 6 heists and (I think) 7 thefts. Who knows why? But I did 6 thefts in a row in that sequence.

It's a mess, really.
I haven't tracked CT or CH initially, but definitely didn't do a lot of them. One, maybe two.

When it came time for unlocking referral, I started writing down each successfully completed CT or CH and my count stopped at:
Covert heist: 4
Covert theft: 2

Then as I completed one more mission (can't remember which one it was), suddenly got invitation to the next engineer.
Go figure...

Give Damocan or Vorduli a try. Damocan had 2 CH and 1 CT yesterday (6 July 21). Obviously can be random but at least the "system state, planets aligned, went to the bathroom before taking a long trip, Frontier in a good mood" factors seemed to be working out then.

Umm dude be aware of the system you're in for jobs. You want more heists available, do it in ANARCHY space. Plenty to be found. Once I was in a station and every NPC mission giver was giving crime jobs and I was like what. Then it dawned on me, systems matter. I was looking for genetic research rewards and couldn't find any. The other day I saw tons. What gives? Oh the one I saw them in were in an agriculture economy system. Let's not say X doesn't exist before looking in the LOGICAL places for them, just saying...

I am in anarchy space. I rarely leave it for all of this ground based content because the c&p system is so crazy.

Edit : anyway I did manage to find a couple of convert heists at 1 A.M. So maybe my luck has changed.
