terrain blueprints

after seeing the latest ign video with the mount rushmore faces ( screw you devs i wanted to do that ! [squeeeeee] ) i was wondering if we willl be able to save the terrain and share them like buildings ?

sorry if this was asked already

I don't think we will be able to blueprint the terrain due to the nature of the way that the world map is created. However I am sure once we can officially share parks you could strip it out and just drop another park in there and then start editing it further to your own desire.

Assuming that there's a base terrain level, you could go to a top-down view and save a rectangle (or polygon) of terrain, and its blueprint would effectively be a set of deltas from the base level. That could then be imported into another park quite easily.

I am not sure that is directly possible with the Voxel based system they have implemented to complete this task though. You need to provide a true Voxel clipboard I believe for that to work which is more advance than the ctrl-c/ctrl-v of normal copy/paste.

Well, yes, they'd have to implement a solution for storing the voxel data as a blueprint. But they have to store the voxel data anyway as part of the save file, so they already have data structures for it. The work that would need to be done would be UI for selecting an area of terrain, code for extracting the appropriate subset of voxel data and code for applying it to another park. I suspect they'll have all this in hand.

Maybe they will and will be awesome, just don't see it happening. It would be as far as I am aware the first game to ever provide this. It is something that the engine itself would be happily capable of mind. Will have to wait and see...and hope because I would like this although wouldn't be the end of world if not.

I wouldn't even care about this if I had only seen mountains and tunnels and such. But, he just had to show us Mount Rushmore.

Most likely our only option will be to download the park, delete and flatten the entire map except the part we wanted then build our own.

However, we can dream, wish, and beg.
